Kent, the thread you had read on the MAIN forum was a very old thread that was written a long time ago, but you're right that Fatboy on this thread is the one and only Fatboy on that thread! :p

Also, in case you are not familiar with some Internet acronyms/abbreviations, i.e., LMFAO, here is a link which is a dictionary of Internet acronyms from A to Z: http://www.gaarde.org/acronyms/

"LMFAO" means "laughing my fat ass off." :D

So, Kent, WTTC! <---"Welcome to the club!" :)

I'm not sure, to tell you the truth. I think somebody told me he used to or still does live with Danny Harriman, but that might be a different Scott. There's a lot of Scotts who post on AzBilliards! :)

We'll have lots to talk about and catch up on when we see each other again. That's for sure! :D

You are a sweetie pie. That is a great piece of pool data, right there. I am going to abstract from it what I can and add it to the article. Thanks so much! :)

I have had the good fortune to watch Kim play when he was quite young and laid a 7 pack on some guy at the River City Classic in Austin in about 1980. I've gone to a lot of the Reno tournaments and drew Kim in the first round of the first type of that tournament I had ever played in. He is one classy guy. He takes his business seriously and is tough as nails. I wish the best for him and Johnny with their new room. Too many times pool players run rooms like pool players. Pool players won't keep a place open. My brother, Danny, opened Danny K's years ago and came within an inch of going belly up. Danny figured it out and if Kim has any questions, my brother would be glad to help him.

Your brother must be doing something right. He must be going on 15 years in that location. Thats really impressive these days. I remember my dad owned a room in Hesperia for 5 years and Danny was our cue stick wholesaler.
I know if I ever do decide to open my own room...... Danny Kuykendal would be one of the first I call on for advice.

Yeah I know Kim Davenport very well. I was playing for charity for the United Cerbral Palsy. I asked him when he owned the pool hall in Modesto if he would donate some pool time for me to practice because I live in Modesto. His reply was XXXX Pool Halls. I wish I had never heard of pool halls. in front of a lot of people quite loudly and then walked away without saying nothing. Then he opened a pool hall with Jonny Archer.
He always been mad because I beat in him Sacramento.

Kim was always one of my favorite players. He and my dad have known one another since they were teenagers matching up in the pool hall. I remember playing in my first big open tournament at Hard Times Bellfower back around 1994, I had won my first round match and was playing in the second round winners side in the prime time session. I was on the front corner table of the tournament room playing in front of a packed house, next table over was Johnny Archer and right behind me Mark Tadd was in a match. A couple of games into my match I looked up into the stands where my dad was and noticed that Kim was sitting with him sweating my match, I remember putting so much pressure on myself to prove that that I could play in this event. I ended up losing that match 11-10 to a L.A. shortstop that I never thought I would have been able to compete with before that. I ended up cashing in the money on my first big tournament and had a great experience, I recommend anyone jumping in with the big boys whenever they get this kind of chance. Its amazing what happens to your game when you surround yourself with better players than you.

Anyway, back to Kim, I remember he went to the losers side early in this event, 2nd round I believe. He came all the way back through the losers side. The last day of the event he played for about 16 hours straight. I remeber he beat Swanee, Francisco, Buddy Hall, and Tang Hoa among others to meet up with Morro for the finals. He had to beat Morro twice to win, and the finals didn't start until about 4am. Kim beat Morro in 2 straight sets after playing all day, I don't think Morro made 3 or 4 in either set. Kim was on fire that day, and showed a ton of heart. When Kim was on his game he was as good as anyone.

I believe his wife's name is Aida. Sure wish I understood how you guys get so combative so easily about things. GF

Hi George, I had "Her name" in a post eariler in this thread, but as usual I spelled it wrong, Lovely lady too. My girl friend met her at Mosconi Cup they liked each other. Kim was very lucky to meet her, I first met her in 93 at the Bicycle club tournment, I saw her around in Modesto years before that but didnt have the pleasure of meeting her.

^^^^^The above is a sample of a good post on a public message board.^^^

the Kimmer

A pretty good filipino cueist where I used to play told me his favorite pro player was Kim Davenport, way back in the late eighties(?)...It was the first time I'd heard of him...although I was to see him subsequently at some tournaments, I just thought of him as another "ranked" pro player, maybe somewhere in the top 30-40 pros....I was a fan of Earl's then, and to me, he was the number 1.....and then, one day I saw a video of Kim running (I can't remember how many) racks on Earl, and beat him in the finals of a Reno Open tournament, and from then on, I considered him among the elite....The memorable thing about his win was that he did a little dance in front of Earl after he sank the eight ball and got easy position on the nine for the championship.....Does anybody remember what year that was, and whether it's on Accu-stats ?

Gosh, I don't remember what year that was but I do remember seeing that same accustats video. Kim just straight ran the set out on Earl and then when he pocketed the final eightball he looked at Earl and gave him a double six gun dance, like he was shooting him down, which I guess in retroscpect he certainly did!
The most popular gambling game here in Modesto used to be golf on a snooker table...Try Kim some of that!..........syott Marc Swisher

I don't know if Kim's eyesight is 100% but 6 or 8 months ago he played Liability with Morro on Big Bertha at Hard Times and won big time. The guys that play Golf there daily are always lagging but both Morro and Kim were firing the balls in. That is a 6' x 12' with super tight pockets. Kim, who I have always thought had one of the smoothest strokes looked damn good.
