Koa cue?

I just built a mini Koa cue. Un-cored
Crazy looking wood.

I had a Koa break cue. It is excellent wood, medium weight. The only thing is, in my opinion, only a highly figured piece should be used, for example curly Koa. my cue was not well figured and in my opinion, non-figured doesn't look great. Curly Koa can be quite spectacular and it is a stable wood.

I almost put in an offer on the curly koa Cohen when I saw it for sale 2 or 3 years ago. I ended up with an ebony and curly maple Cohen instead, it was a tough call. Love my Cohen.

to the ops question, If it were me, I would want it cored. Just more stable, and less chance of warping.

I saw a Gilbert cue with Koa Burl points, very unique. Almost bought that one as well

Do you build cues? And are you in California?

Reason I ask is because six or so years ago I purchased a 60" custom cue from the For Sale forum and I believe it was a Whiteoak (White Oak?) cue. The cue has no markings on it. It (I think) was either a White Oak or White Wolf cue but I cannot remember and I would like to identify the cue.

Sorry to bother you if you have nothing to do with this cue.

Koa

This is my Terry Roach Koa jumper beautiful wood!

Had no idea it could be used for cues.
Compared to most cue woods, it is soft & relatively light weight.
About like Honduran mahogany, maybe lighter.
(There's more curl in the top couple boards than the photo brings out)

It is less dent resistant than some wood, but could make an interesting floor for the right pool room.

Koa has none of the qualities a person would want in a cue other than how it looks.

If a cue with it isn't cored you can bet your ass it's full of steel somewhere to give it mass.

Who wants to play with a steel cue?

I've only built one cue with Koa. It was questionable while turning it. I'm glad I cored it.

Curly looks grand. Id think about coring as well for stability weight and playability.

Remarkable wood. Mr. Fisher made this Koa cue uncored. It plays very good.

had this built in 2006-7 by Barry Cameron. Koa forearm, ebony points, ivory spears with Koa/ivory inlays in the ebony butt sleeve. Ivory joint.

Love the way it hits, especially when paired with its curly maple shaft.
