There is a tournament scheduled for the Bicycle Club between the 6th & 11th of Jan in the L.A. area. Anyone out there know who is scheduled to appear or what vendors are supposed to be in attendance? I was told that Efren has already confirmed. Just curious as I plan on going no matter what as it has been forever since they had a major in this area.

It's the UPA Tour Championship - it's a terrific field. Here's the web site info.

I checked with the Bicycle Club - tickets are sold at the door only. I suggest callng them for seating times.

This field should be worth watching!(From the UPA web site):

Johnny Archer (Atlanta , GA): The Scorpion - #1 ranked in the USA and 4 time World Champion
Charlie Williams(Orlando , FL) :The Korean Dragon - #2 ranked in the USA and winner of 2 UPA Tour Stops this year
Rodney Morris (Honolulu, HI) : The Rocket - #3 ranked in the USA and winner of The 2003 World Pool League (Poland)
Tony Robles (NY, NY) : The Silent Assassin - #5 ranked in the USA and multi-Northeast champion
Nick Varner (Owensboro, KY) : THe KY Colonel - #7 ranked in the USA and Hall of Famer
(Also see the above players in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand for the 2003 Mosconi Cup in USA versus Europe team event filmed live on TV around the world Dec 18-21 and re-shown on ESPN at the end of Dec )

This event will also have several top international players including:

Efren Reyes (Manila, Phillippines) : The Magician - #1 ranked in the Phillipines and considered by many to be the greatest player of all time
Ralf Souquet (Manching, Germany) : The Kaiser - #1 ranked player in Germany and former World Champion & US OPen Champion
Mika Immonen (Helsinki, Finland) : The Iceman - #1 ranked player in Finland and former World Champion and currently ranked #1 in the World
Francisco Bustamente (Manila , Phillippines) : Django - Former Player of the Year and multiple winner of international events
Young Hwa Jeong (Seoul, Korea) : The Spicy Man - #1 Korean National Champion and 2 time medalist at Asian Games
Luc Salvas (Montreal, Canada) : Machine Gun Luc - Multi- time National Canadian Champion

There will also be a strong cast of local LA and California players such as national ranked pros like Jose Parica, Morro Paez, Tang Hoa, Ernesto Dominguez, and Dave Hemmah.

How's that???

Chris

Ok the tournament is at the Bycicle CLub but where will the action take place? Will they keep the room open for match play or does every one go to Hard Times?

Thanks for all of the info! I imagine that they will probably go to Hardtimes at least they did 8 yrs ago. By the way , Hardtimes has a 1 hole tournament Sat (sombody said that the entry was $350.00?) followed by their 1st Sunday of the month tournament that consistantly draws 90+ players. Then the Bicycle Club tournament starts! Pool Heaven!!

Ah...the pool world at it's finest....
Who knew about this tourney , how long ago?
It's pretty hard to get decent priced airline tickets at the last minute to go to an event.
One good event in the LA area and that's all.
With an area like LA, there should be at least one or two more events scheduled near this date so the players and fans could save a few bucks and fill up on pool!

I heard that Alex P? is going to be there, too.

Raphael Martinez won a few hundred $ winning the Hard Times one hole tourney - he beat King Kong in the finals. They both passed up the Pechauer Tourney at the Break Zone also being playede on Saturday. Santos was there at the Hard Times also.

Paul Poitier from Canada and Tony Annigoni are vistors here to the Break Zone (Torrance, CA) Tourney and may also play at the Bicycle Club.

Many of those knocked out of the Break Zone Saturday will probably play at the Hard Times $1,000.00 added Sunday 9 ball tourney today.

There used to be an annual Bicycle Club, LA Open, and Hard Times Tourneys that drew the top 32 men and women to the LA area but when the no smoking law was passed several years ago - it all but dried up.

Thanks TATE! I'll check it out.:D

The Bicycle Club is right off the Florence Ave. offramp and the 710 (Long Beach Frwy) Freeway. You can't miss it from the freeway. I did't know about the event until a couple of weeks ago. The 1 pocket match between Santos and Rafael , at Hardtimes, was a
great match to watch!! Their strokes and ball speed control were really something to watch. Santos was shooting with a gorgeous Purpleheart and ivory cue, I was told that it was a Southwest. It was as pretty as his stroke.

Gerald, Santos shoots with a Paul Drexler.
Curly purpleheart forearm with stunning ivory inlays.
Hits like a dream. He's been offered 6K for that cue.
Drexler is one fine cuemaker and very very generous with his knowledge.
