I agree and that's not looking at things differently Trig - that's looking at someone dumb enough to put a baby there in the first place - and besides the noise level - what should happen if a ball should come flying off the table right next to theirs and hits the baby?? - then what?? - not too funny then - right??? - if only people would stop and think once in a while!! -
 
I haven't responded. Not to be rude- I just didn't want to jump out there. Now I'm concerned that not responding could be considered an unintentional snub.

I play 9ball. I can run three balls, especially if I have ball in hand to start out with.

I've only played straight pool a few times ever, and that was always just warming up on a free table with a straight pool fanatic tourney director before the 9ball tourney began. I have no idea what my high run is or would be.

I tried a 10ball tourney this last weekend (first time playing 10b) but apparently the rules weren't "official" in that it was just 9ball rules with an extra ball in the mix.

I have been rendered completely comatose fairly quickly and easily in 1p.

I enjoy 3 cushion but need the world or an awesome partner in doubles to consider gambling.

I like golf a lot. Most small ring games, actually.

I strongly dislike 8ball but will play if there's no other tourney going on.

And I would never bring a baby in a poolroom. At the 10b tourney I just mentioned, IN Poolplayer2093's homeroom (where I assume this whole baby under the table thing started), I was down on the ball shooting when a flying ball off another table came and cracked me hard on the ankle. That baby would be very hurt, if alive.

Finally, I don't think poolplayers should ever hug each other. Just throwing that one out now, since I figure everyone's quit reading by this point anyway.

I forgot, there was this one odd ball game I played a few times that I really enjoyed. If you are feeling like a little fun, I highly recommend it. It is a pool version of cribbage.

Basically, you break and then to get a point you have to run two balls in a row that equal 15 points (i.e. the 9 and 6). So there are 7 combinations of balls where the summed balls' numerical value equals fifteen. Once you are down to the fifteen ball you can shoot that puppy straight in. Since there are 8 possible points, you can choose to race to any value (lets say 15).

If you make one of the balls, but then miss the second ball, the pocketed ball gets spotted.

I hope that makes sense, I am still on my first cup of coffee and can not be held accoun table for my spelling, grammer or ability to write in a comprehensive fashion (I know there must be a word for that, but I can't think of it (I also tend to use paranthetical quotations pre coffee (I apologize for that as well ;) ))).
 
Me doth protest! I have slept under a pool table (not on one) and had a very peaceful rest. :smile:

The ambient sounds in a pool room; the soft voices and the balls clicking are actually quite soothing and restful. Even the music only adds to the ambience. I also think that being under a table is probably the safest place in the pool room, especially for a baby. Not much going on under there.

I will confess that when my oldest daughter came to live with me when she was ten, I occasionally took her with me to the pool room. It was still my part time job :cool:. If I couldn't find a baby sitter she came with me, and always had more fun than anyone else. She was treated well by everybody! And many players to this day ask my how my little Heather is doing. Married with children I tell them.

There was one memorable game where I hooked up with this guy at the old Hollywood Billiards. We played $10 Eight Ball (his choice of games) until the wee hours of the morning, with Heather curled up asleep in a chair with my jacket covering her. When it was all over (I finally busted him) I took her for breakfast at a nearby Denny's. Funny thing is she remembers that night to this day and it is one of the fond memories we share.

I use to take my four kids (1 or 2 at a time) to the poolroom a lot when I had guard duty, but not until they were about 10 yo. When my youngest got old enough to go in bars she set-up many, many nice scores for me. Mostly she used the old "My daddy could beat you", line on them. She is a very beautiful girl…so that didn't hurt either. Johnnyt

played my first game of "banks" the other day....kinda enjoyed it! not a big game abound here tho....but ill give any game a try if i can!
 
I love straight pool, but no one ever wants to practice it with me, and I don't have the self discipline to practice it by myself. I also love one pocket, but I'm not patient enough to play more than a few games. Don't much care for 8 ball, for some reason I just can't enjoy it. Love me some 9 ball though.

If you are ever in Dallas, I'll shoot some straight pool or one pocket. 9-Ball is always good too.

Don't be so modest you can play some! the last time i played at the jointed cue tournament they said you won it the week before.

the 10ball thing probably didn't go as well as i'd expected for you because the break in 10 ball is a little tougher and it's different equipment than the tables in sacramento. that and there were some strong players there too
