I played in the tournament at White Diamond Billiards this past weekend.
There was slightly over $31,000 in prize money, 117 players. I really enjoyed myself.
There was one big name person that everyone in the pool world has heard of - Scotty Townsend. There may have been some regional heros there, but not many legends. There were probably only about 10 players that I didn't have much of a chance of beating. In fact, Steve Linz from Texas (who won the tournament from the winners side) was my opponent in the third round and I lost to him 7-5 (he made two incredibly tough carom shots on the nine to win two games, either could have been attributed to luck).
My point is, there was lots of money to be had but not much of a showing from world champions. There was a Seminole Florida Pro Tour event this weekend that hosted many well known players (Strickland, Duel, Chohan, Hennessee). The payout as posted by AZ was $14,550. Does the cost of gas keep top players in their home state or area?
