Landon played a great match against Jim Sandalar of Florida in the 2nd round. Landon lost the match 7-5 but at one point the score was 5-5. Under tough circumstances (Landon jumped out to a 2-0 lead and the heat was on!) Jim played a great match and it was such a good experience for Landon to play a fine player. Landon may play his round 3 match tonight.

Without a doubt this young man will be a strong presence in the world of profession pool in the years to come. I overheard a comment from a local player that he, Landon, had it made. His parents have money to buy him top flite equipment and to have him schooled by the best teachers. Hey, I don't give a damn how much money you spend on someone to try and create a prodigy, if they don't have the talent for whatever it is they are being trained for then you are pouring money down the drain. Landon has a natural talent for the game that is going to be developed to it's fullest potential over the next few years.

Id like to see him play! I just cant believe a kid that young can be that good! Id hate to see him in 10 years!

Thanks once again for all the compliments for Landon. You all sound like you are very genuine in your praise. I am not a pool player and have limited knowledge about the sport even though Stan explains a lot to me. I feel Landon does have an unusual ability for his age and he truly enjoys playing. His dad is his coach and I know firsthand how much they both work on their games. As for having the money to buy the very best--we're both teachers (Stan retires after next year) so we aren't exactly rich! However, we both have the philosophy that it's best to focus on being the best at one thing and you do whatever you need to (buy equipment, instruction) to help accomplish this. As far as instruction goes, Stan is a great instructor (he's played pool since he was 8 himself) and the credit needs to go his way.

I am not a regular viewer of the billiard websites but I am a very proud mom who enjoys reading nice comments about her son!

Landon's Instruction...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Landon take lessons from Timothy White from the Billiard Sanctuary Academy of Cueing Arts? www.billiardsanctuary.com
I am going to be spending a week with Timothy in July also and will be receiving my Instructor Certification thru him.

Great job Landon and keep up the good work!!

Hay Mr Shuffett i think that is a good thing u have your son in something like pool. and u keeping him school .Cause this sport is no way to make a liveing..The skills u get from school is the best .And pool is just a way to take time from school. And have fun.Good luck to your son hope to play him someone day..

I'm sure with landon's parents job history, he is already aware of the importance of education. who knows where pool will be in 10-15 years. there very well may be a future in it, bowling has sure made a giant leap over the past 3-4 years. plus as good as his father is i doubt there are many issues that go along with pool that the family is un-aware of. instruction

Yes, Zim, you are right.....I was in a hurry this morning before school and didn't go into great detail about instruction. What was on my mind is that Stan is Landon's instructor and coach.
I didn't mean to mislead anyone into thinking that Landon hadn't received instruction elsewhere. Landon took some instruction from Tim White last summer and Stan is planning on going through the master instructor program this summer himself. (Stan thinks VERY highly of Tim's approach to instruction. Landon is a "guest instructor" on Tim's new instructional DVD series, too.)
A couple of years ago, Landon and Stan received instruction from Mark Wilson. Scott Lee came down for a day last fall as a guest at our home and evaluated Landon's game. Stan and Landon watch videos of matches for instruction, too. (Stan gives private instruction and teaches a beginning billiards class at a local university as well.)

When you break down all the instruction and practice Landon gets, his dad has given him by far the greatest amount. That was what I was getting at.

Mrs. Shuffett,

I have to say it was definitely a pleasure and honor to meet Landon and Mr. Shuffett. You have every right to be a proud mom. He has a very promising future. I had a great time rooting for him and he was nice enough to root for me in a few matches. I appreciate it and wish him all the best.

Hats off to the Shuffett family

I just saw this page and thought I would say hello to everyone! First of all I would just like to compliment Mr. Stan Shuffett for all of the work that he does for the sport of pocket billiards. He is a credit to the sport. He is a great teacher (and I have learned a great deal about the game from him). Not only is he a first rate player, but he is also a true gentleman.

His work with Landon is amazing! Landon is becoming quite a strong player and I know he will go far, simply for the fact that he has two caring parents who care greatly for him. Parents truly do make all of the difference in the world. I am truly honored to know the Shuffett family.

Good luck and continued success!!!

Anthony

I would like to thank BCtv for allowing Landon to practice on the action table so many of us could see this young man in action. He is truly amazing. Best of luck in the future Landon.

I watched this kid break and run out today. What a break! And he ran out smooth as silk. If he sticks with it and doesn't burn out then he will be a world champion. I highly reccomend reading Wille's Game to the Shuffets if they haven't already so that they can see what effect that doing exhibitions and is in the spotlight has on a young person.

Wishing that Landon sticks with it and that while he is growing that the game does as well. It would be cool to see him come of age when pool grows to tennis/golf like proportions.

What I found interesting was that he was pretty articulate as well when interviewed by an inarticulate interviewer. Also I saw the joy when he stood behind Efrens seat as Efren ran racks. Im sure his heart was broken like myself when Efren lost to the great Soquet.

Hello to all!! I want to thank each poster for the thoughtful comments and support that has been extended to my son, Landon. Our experience at the DCC was all positive. It was not an easy decision to put Landon into that field. (Landon wanted to play without any hesitation.) Anyway, Landon proved that I made the correct move(allowing him to play) by the way he competed and handled himseld during both of his matches.

For the past eighteen months or so Landon has been totally focused on skills and competition. The SPOTLIGHT so to speak has been a distraction and a source of stress that is much greater than one might imagine. We are not seeking the spotlight! It's hard to turn down the Letterman show. As far as exhibitions go, there was not one planned for the DCC this year. Landon gravitated toward the TV table and on Saturday did do one trick shot and broke and ran about four racks of nine ball with minimal mistakes. To me that was the most satisfying show Landon has ever put on. It was completely impromtu and it demonstrated his real talent. Neither of us are too keen on trick shots. We are taking everything in stride at this point. The ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW folks are in contact with us now. It's hard to turn that kind of PR down, not to mention the experience. We did say no to an invitation to appear on THE STEVE HARVEY SHOW, even though that's a neat program.

An on-going lesson that I teach Landon is that the cueing arts is about more than than just making balls. Billiards is about life!! Honesty, integrity, making the right choices, respecting others, becoming the best person he can be. Yes, there are some undesirable elements that go along with billiards, but those elements exist in and permeate all segments of our society. We deal with those elements quite frequently in discussion and with observation. I never take lightly the responsibility that I have as a father to guide Landon in the right direction. He will never be taught to be anything less than a gentleman and a shining light for our sport. I want Landon to do what he has a passion for in life and that goes for his career also. Education is paramount in our planning.

Landon's mother joins me in thanking each one of you for the sincere interest you have shown in our son.

I would also like to thank Paul Frankel, Bryan Roberts, Greg Sullivan, Rob Sykora, Mark Wilson, Scott Lee, Bill McDaniel and Tim White for their contributions in helping Landon along.

Stan

Stan, it was a true pleasure to watch Landon play. I believe there is some justification in a comparison to this young man.

It was great to watch him Stan! He seems like a plain ole nice kid on top of being a talent. I saw him on Letterman and Ripleys a couple years back and he radiates that same sweet personality now as he did then. Very cool.

I too noticed him sitting right behind Efren and it was fun to watch his reaction. Landon was one more reason that the BCn broadcast was such a wonderful treat for those of us who couldn't make the trip to L'ville.

I turned on BCn to see if anything was happening yet and there was this little kid walking around the table. ut oh, some kid snuck up there. Watched a few hits, hey this kid has a stroke! Watched a while longer, hey he makes balls too!

Later saw the short exibition and more of him playing. Very impressive. Wish they could have his tournament game on live.

Stan, I'm glad that you brought him there.
