short race - flip a coin

long race - Varner

Regarding tours: generally nothing for US players and hasn't been. The last was the IPT and Nevel is #12 on the list with all the champions playing. Regional tours are all that is available if you are lucky.
Are you serious? I would love to play 2008 nick varner! Bet what you want.

Larry man, I think you should be careful of sprnva, he sems like one of those crazed fans that can go too far

the following may occur

Larry Nevel: what's up sprnva, you wanna come over to the house and play some

sprnva: you bet I would, I'll bring the drinks and snacky cakes

LN: sounds good

20 minutes later

LN: you nva what's crackin

LN: Deezamm, I'm tired as shit

nva: oh....hmmmm....don't know what that's all about you belong to me now Nevel

Three hours later, Larry wakes up groggily in what he can only presume is sprnva's basement, he is in a dog kennel

LN: Hey, WTF is going on

nva: comes down the stairs dressed in a wedding gown wearing makeup and a blond wig Hello my dreamer

I think they were in the cartoons with Sylvester; Sylvester would pick on Spike and the big dog would come and kick Sylvester's ass...lol. There wasn't much talking in the Tom and Jerry cartoons.

Not that I watch cartoons...lol.

Maybe you were too busy laughing at other thread-hijacking posters comments and didn't understand what I wrote. I was trying to make what I thought would be a competitive game: Varner in his prime against Nevel in his current form.

I do not think the 2008 NV is competitive with LN. If you want to play NV then go right ahead and I wish you the best. I have no idea how you play so I can't even begin to comment on that game.

Good point. If they played when Nick was in his prime and playing at his very best, he may be competitive against Nevel in his current form. However, I seriously doubt this is a foregone conclusion as the poll results would lead one to believe.

The game has changed, the equipment has improved, and players skill levels have evolved. I seriously doubt if John McEnroe in his prime would have a snowballs chance in hell of beating Federer in his current form. That doesn't mean he wasn't a great champion in his time.

a lot of you guys discount nevel's game just because he hasn't won any 'major' tournerments. i've seen the man shoot, they dont call him the truth for nothing.

comparing someone who's prime was late 80's/early 90's to a player who hasn't even peaked yet isn't possible and just stirs up the shitpot.

btw, i think its awsome that larry posts here. i just hope he doesn't get chased away by all the nits and other undesirables.

(a nevel fan if you haven't noticed by now :))

I could name 20 players totally off the top of my head that are far beyond Larry and I would love to see you attempt to argue your case that Larry is beyond any of them. Cripe, there are 6-8 Phillipino's alone in Alex, Efren, Busta, Alcano, Orcollo, Gomez, Luat, Manalo, ect.... that Larry would want none of on neutral turf. God forbid he was to go play them on their home ground like he is barking for here, you might as well add Linning, Gabica, De Luna, Corteza, and about a dozen others you have never even heard of.

Then you have the Taiwanese, if Larry wants action he can get played 24/7 there, at least until he is broke which wont take long, even if playing the under 20 category.

In the USA alone Archer, SVB, Strickland, Schmidt, these guys are going to have the line over Larry in a long session.

There is no way Larry is in the top 20, as said above, he is not even in the top 100. He is probably somewhere on the last 250 side of the top 500 players in the world. And if he disagrees then he had best go actually do something in more then local events and small time tours. Do something in the BCA, do something in the Worlds, do something in the US Open. Do something in a tournament where the field is actually full of a bunch of champions and then the case may change, until then though....

wow dude get a clue. you seriously have no clue about anything in pro pool do you?

bangers like you are the railbirds that sit there and watch 11 hours of pool without actually betting a penny.

schmit wouldn't play nevel, cept for 14:1 which happens to be his best by a longshot. i think nevel wins most of the regionals of the GSBT, which has players like shannon dulton, tony cohan, basically the region's best players plus whatever action/road players who happen to be by at the time.

do you have any idea the amount of skill it takes to win that many regionals, especially when some of the best players in the world stop by to play in the tour, and to still come out on top so many times is very very strong.

how many regional or even weekly bar tourneys have you won lately?

I swear I mean no offense whatsoever, but think about what you just said. If it weren't for "bangers" who love to watch pool, Larry and the other pros would be shooting by themselves in tournaments that pay one-tenth of what they do know. I see no reason for condemning someone because they enjoy watching pool. I'm in the DCC action room every year and see hundreds of people there watching and not betting a dime, but their admission fee's help to pay the player's winnings.

Obviously we cant bet on anything that isnt set up yet. As a matter of fact, Ill lay 2 to 1 that a game doesnt even come off. Everybody always wants to talk online, but it is rare for anything to actually happen.

You're right. There are some who always boast and talk on this forum about bet, bet, bet, bet, bet, bet, bet, putting down pro players like Larry Nevel who was only defending himself against personal attacks.

It is rare for anything to happen with these people who keep wanting to bet, bet, bet, bet, bet. They sure do know how to talk a good talk, a dialogue which has a ring of similarity to other posters who want to bet, bet, bet, bet, bet, but never seem to come up with a game.

Larry Nevel is a professional player, well respected in the pool community; a gentle giant, if you will. Larry does back his game, unlike some of these forum members who only want to say

bet, bet, bet, bet, bet, bet.

Sounds like a lot of nit chatter to me.
