Obviously we cant bet on anything that isnt set up yet. As a matter of fact, Ill lay 2 to 1 that a game doesnt even come off. Everybody always wants to talk online, but it is rare for anything to actually happen.

Well, Larry said he wants to play and gave you his number to contact him and setup a time. You said you'd put either Shane or Corey in. From what I can tell the ball is in your court for a game to happen at this moment. So it seems to me like you might be laying 2 to 1 against yourself. Just an observation though.

I didnt see a phone number anywhere??? I also said we need to wait to bet higher because I cant see Shane or Cory traveling that far to play for 2 or 3k, and I am not really excited about that either.

I will play Corey or Shane. Call me at 608-201-4568 and we will set up a game. My stakehorse is leaving for a week on vacation but you will have my number so we can set something up real soon. Corey and Shane are elite players so we will probably only bet two to three thousand. By the way you said I wasnt shit so why do you need to try to bring the best. You didnt even think I was in the top 100 players. Bring someone who you think plays like me and you can bet 30g. I am sure it shouldnt be that hard to find another "noname who has never won anything" as you say, to beat me. lol How about John Schmidt.....he thinks he is one of the best.. bring him amd you can bet atleast 10g....

There's the phone number since you missed it the first time Billy.

damn thats a good record!

Just to throw this out to you all. You dont have to try to make up some fantasy game with me and someone who really doesnt play that much anymore. Nobody knows what would happened if I even played in the 80's. Especially because there was alot more pool back then. For what I get a chance to play in I think my record is pretty good. In the last 15 tournaments I have played in I have placed 1 fourth, 3 seconds and have won 11 of them. There is alot of people out there that question me gambling and who have I ever beat. Well, I am not going to be like John Schmidt and ask for action on here then make a list of twenty players who I wont play....Let it be known that any american player can get some action in my home room playing me a 9 ball set for atleast a couple of thousand. Play will be rack your own ahead set or race. I havent won any major tournaments, so all you US Open winners and big tourney winners can play a nobody. This does include you John Schmidt, SVB, Corey, Dennis Hatch or anyone else.
I stand corrected! You're the best player in all the regional tournaments you play in! Sorry for the misunderstanding! I know you're a great player, but damn do you really think you rate that high in the world? I don't but that's just my opinion and it doesn't mean a thing! Keep robbing everyone at your REGIONAL tournaments, and eventually maybe you'll wake us common folk up to your ability!

Yes sir, I am going way out on a limg. I never win anyways, so I almost expect lose. Nothing surprises me anymore, but if Larry Nevell beats Shane and Cory, I will OFFICIALLY retire from gambling, thats a promise!!!
I usually stay out of woof thread but..........if Larry plays Corey some pool I will go a dime on Larry. So if this game goes off count me in with your "covering the rail".

This isn't meant to disrespect Larry's game at all, but this question is a bit ridiculous. At his peak, Nick was arguably the best player in the world, and his contemporaries included some of the best players ever to pick up a cue, many of whom are HOF'ers themselves, including Mike Sigel, Efren Reyes, Buddy Hall, and Earl Strickland (all either in their primes, or close to them).

Any hypothetical match-up between Nick, in his prime, and one of today's players would have to include the absolute best of the best that today's crop of players has to offer, imo.

This is exactly correct. As good as Larry can shoot there is no comparing him to Nick in his prime. Efren, Sigel, Strickland, Archer, Hall, there are countless players who were playing lights out pool during Nick's prime and Nick was number 1. Asking this question is ludicrous, how good would Larry do against Archer in his prime? How good would he do against Strickland in his prime? How do you like Larry vs Efren in his prime? How about Sigel? Because Varner was playing his best pool in the same era those players were near their best and he was holding his own with all those guys and then some.

The guy won the World 9-ball Championships as late as 1999 ffs. To put that into perspective the people who won just before him, Takahashi Kunihiko, Johnny Archer, Ralf Souquet, Oliver Ortmann.... The guys immediately after, Efren Reyes, Chao Fong-pang , Mika Immonen, ect... THIS is the calibre of players that Varner was peers with, and I am sorry to say but Larry has done nothing to put himself into that company and I highly doubt he ever will.

for the record i think you are in the top 20 in the world

I could name 20 players totally off the top of my head that are far beyond Larry and I would love to see you attempt to argue your case that Larry is beyond any of them. Cripe, there are 6-8 Phillipino's alone in Alex, Efren, Busta, Alcano, Orcollo, Gomez, Luat, Manalo, ect.... that Larry would want none of on neutral turf. God forbid he was to go play them on their home ground like he is barking for here, you might as well add Linning, Gabica, De Luna, Corteza, and about a dozen others you have never even heard of.

Then you have the Taiwanese, if Larry wants action he can get played 24/7 there, at least until he is broke which wont take long, even if playing the under 20 category.

In the USA alone Archer, SVB, Strickland, Schmidt, these guys are going to have the line over Larry in a long session.

There is no way Larry is in the top 20, as said above, he is not even in the top 100. He is probably somewhere on the last 250 side of the top 500 players in the world. And if he disagrees then he had best go actually do something in more then local events and small time tours. Do something in the BCA, do something in the Worlds, do something in the US Open. Do something in a tournament where the field is actually full of a bunch of champions and then the case may change, until then though....

Any AZers wanting a friendly 100-200 sweat bet if anything goes down I will take Larry. He makes that triple shimmed 9 ftr at the Rainbow look like a bar table.

He probably lives on the table. If you shoot on the same table day in day out you get to know exactly how the pockets take the balls, you get use to exactly how the lighting falls on the table, you get to know the exact speed of the table. A home table advantage such as that is not to be discredited, and Larry knows this full well.

I've watched about 10 hours of old Nick Varner videos and several live Larry Nevel matches.

In your opinion, who would win a 9-ball match (race to 13) if Larry could have played Nick in the peak of his career?

Not even close. Nick was a GREAT player! I have often overlooked him when talking about the great players of his generation, but he was most definitely one of them. Right up there with Buddy, Miz, Sigel, Hoppy and Rempe.

And Nick gambled real good!

I think since Larry is one of the top 20 players in the world, and has such a stellar record in tournaments, he should come down to FL. There is an $8000 added seminole tournament in cape coral the 21-22 of june, and the following weekend, there is a Viking tournament in Tampa. I mean that should be free money for him! lol
Plus he could rob plenty of people why he was there. Hell he might even be able to get up with Corey while he's there!

Varner's prime VS Nevel current:

short race - flip a coin

long race - Varner

Regarding tours: generally nothing for US players and hasn't been. The last was the IPT and Nevel is #12 on the list with all the champions playing. Regional tours are all that is available if you are lucky.

Sorry dude but I dont have the money or sponsors to be able to go to all these tournaments. I hav played in the BCA 3 times, us open 5 times, and derby city like 6 times. Did you read my post Jackass? I said any american player can get played. I never said I was the best or even referred to me being the best, I said any american player can get action!!!! At least a couple of thousand. I think thats pretty sporty on my end to offer some action to any american player. Hell, everone else on here wants action but wont play anyone who has a chance to beat them. I never woofed saying I will rob everyone....I am saying just call and come down and get some of this weak ass no big tournament winning suckers money!!!!!!!!
