Best thing I ever did. I won a few regional tournys back in the early 90s and its been down hill ever since. Well my insurance now covers the sugery and I went with the lasik , and after a week of getting used to not having glasses on, i was amazed at how i can see the ball. they look like oranges. It had been a few years since i ran two in a row. Its been a month now and all I can say is Ive never shot better an I shot my first tourney at the age of ten years old. At 42 I do need reading glasses but Im seeing the balls better than ever. I feel like I was reborn. Been practicing alot and cant wait to start the dream all over again.

I had glasses and then I had contacts. Both were pretty tough on the pool game.

I had RK surgery. Best thing I ever did.
 
I had gasses and then contacts..... I called Geno and he fixed many of my issues in 30 minutes the night I tore my last set of lenses....

That was a month ago and I don't know if I will buy more.....

I was 20/15 growing up and I thought my aiming issues were with degradation... I am 20/20 now that I have smoked for 20 years and put some years on........ I was using the glasses and contacts to get me to what I thought was better than average...

I am pretty sure seeing a gnats ass is fine and dandy but seeing it from the same spot every time may mean you don't have to be able to focus in on the brown parts.....

I was, and still am interested in Lasik because I wear contacts and have never liked it...but the strange part is...if I play with no glasses or contacts..and even though the balls look big and very fuzzy(I'm near sighted...-2.75 & -3.00 with a slight astigmatism)...I can still play very well and probably bank better even though I can't see anything clear. The biggest difference, I believe, is..I can hit the center of the cue ball better without any vision correction...does the correction of my astigmatism affect my perception of where I'm hitting the cue ball? Or I'm I crazy?

I guess until I can figure that out...I don't want to get Lasik just yet..but I've heard it's wonderful from several of my friends.

I've been really considering getting this done next year. This year the eye doctor told me that I have an astigmatism now. I figure I can get in on the HSA at work and get it done.

My vision with contacts is good unless I get really low on the CB, or when looking at the OB when setting up on a jump. Both times my astigmatism comes into play on longer shots now. Because of that I'm now thinking seriously about lasik.
 
I had it done 2 years ago. never wore glasses and never could get use to contacts.
Now on any tight shots, I can see if its going to go instead of hoping there's room.

yes, it could affect your perception, but imho not enough for where you're hitting the cue ball. Your perception should be more affected for angular "evaluation" ...
The slight value of your astigmatism is one thing, the axis of it is another. Even slight astigmatisms can affect the perception when the axis aren't near 0° or 90° . The worst case are oblical astigmatisms (30° to 60 / 120° to 150° axis)...

kbooks , about the lasik, since you're around -2.50/-3.00 , you're right to stay as you are , because once the lasik is done on both eyes (and your myopia fully corrected then ) , after 45 years old you'll need glasses to read :) ... but now, without your glasses, you can read . an advantage ...

Pool and vision is a verrry interesting topic ... especially for the pool/billard players who are optometrist (like me, as for example ;) )

My doctor basically told me the same thing regarding the Lasik.:(

I know nothing about my astigmatism( it says R -.75 100 & L -.75 90 on the boxes)...but it must affect my vision to some degree...if you have ever practiced the "mighty X" stop shot drill...you'd know, if you don't hit the measle cue ball perfectly it shows...plus that little bit of side spin really effects your two and three rail banks...I thought about trying contacts that don't fix my astimatism and see what happens..is this a bad idea?
 
Pro/con to corrections done with one eye far and one eye near. I wear progressives and have wondered when I'm off if my perception wasn't being affected with the progressives.
My rt +2.50 Lf +2.25 with +2.50 add to each

I know two that had it done and are real happy. Their shooting did suffer some for about a year, though. I also, know two that had it done about 10 years ago that now see with only one eye as the other was blotched or got an infection from the surgery but they both are heavy drinkers, which may have been a factor.

I went about 8 years ago to get it done and they told me i was not a candidate cuase I had such bad astigmatism. when i went this time Dr.Kraff told me they had made changes in the procedure that now allows for that type of correction. all I can tell you is at extream angles Im seeing the edge of the ball better than ever and long thin cuts are much easier in sted of trying to guess. Also when shooting beteen balls when you were never sure if there were room now you know for sure no more guess work. As for banks thats a feel thing, never had a problem, still dont
 
I was -4.75L -5.00R and I had Zyoptix LASIK surgery 7 years ago. My vision is still better that 20/20 and I can read just fine. I also had an astigmatism which was corrected by the surgery. I highly recommend this to anyone that is a good candidate.

As far as reading glasses goes that is independent of the LASIK surgery to correct nearsightedness. Needing cheeters is a product of the eye aging. LASIK is not designed to correct Presbyopia, nor does it promote or advance it.

If you have the means and are a good candidate you should look into it.

Thanks for the info...it sounds great! I may look into this...one thing that always bothered me in the past...is every eye doctor I ever had wore glasses.:grin: maybe just a coincidence..but it still made me leery.
 
LAZIK may not be the answer for all vision problems. Be very careful and get a second opinion. Implants may really be what you need especially if you have cataracts.

By the way, I had lense implants and it is great in every way.

No Thanks! My boobs are big enough! Just kidding, may be somthing for me to concider later on

Now Im just glad to be rid of glasses, I wore them since 3rd grade.

Can I ask who the insurance company was that covered this?? If this is too personal please excuse me for asking!! I have had some terrible problems in the past health wise and have found most insurance companies to kinda suck.... If my insurance would cover Lasik I may also be interested..

Im a Union Laborer. I labor for the brickies. I build scafold and stock 8,10,and 12 inch block buy the thousands. I mix morter and bust my ass like a hebrew slave and ill be able to retire at 55 with full benys. We have whats call the Chicago Laborers health Fund. we are self insured. The only catch is if you get Lasik , you are never eligable for glasses again. the insurance is making out because we get a $500 pair of glases every year but the lasik charge the insurance only $3200 for both eyes . so Ive got 14 more years befor i retire that would have cost them $7000, Its cheeper to pay for lasik. THe lasik didnt cost me a dime.

I'm a fan of the Decot glasses!

I've contemplated lasik for years, but I thought, let me pick up a pair of these and see what they're about and wow, I can see and cue the balls really well!

I picked up the revel ones...and they work great for shooting pool!

I recently picked up a second set for my work and highway driving!

I'm 45 right now, and still considering Lasik in the next few years!

Had Lasik done over 15 years ago, still have 20-15 vision. Best thing I ever did. The hard part was that insurance did not cover this because it is considered cosmetic surgery. I suppose they would make exceptions to this if your job required you to have perfect vision without contacts or glasses. Then again, maybe not.
