I surely would have missed a great piece of workmanship on a pool case and would have been the lesser for it.
This pool case is by far one of the most spectacular ones that I have ever seen and don't care if he sells it, attempts to sell it or that it dry rots. It was nice having the opportunity to see it.

Great case John. I like it better than the first one but that's just taste.
Will most/all/some of your cases be in that same style... like the Instroke cases, leather wrapped around with the "patch" (don't know what else to call the back) and rivits down the back?

John, the case is gorgeous!
I know you and I have had this discussion before. You like the shoulder strap on the side, while I think it would be more comfortable if it were attached on the back side of the case. I wonder what other posters on here think. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I would like to hear some others comments.
Keep up the good work. When I win the lottery, I will have you customize one for me.

That's a great question Steve. I have a Porper that I bought about4 years ago and the one thing I don't like about it is the strap on the side. It determines that I can only carry it over my left shoulder. While I have gotten used to that, as best I can, there are times when I'd rather have it on my right shoulder and a rear attached strap would allow for that.pooltchr said:

He made the first "InStroke" style case I ever saw, and were they ever in demand. He sold them as fast as he made them, which was slow. I wish I still had the one he made for me.
John, I have one of your original InStroke" cases made many years ago. This sucker is heavy duty and durable. Looks like it's seen it's share of pool wars but still rugged and ready to go, for three butts and six shafts. I don't use it anymore. I probably should sell it, but haven't yet decided to part with it. This thing is well made! Heck, even the zippers still works. You really made these cases to last.

Name your price....................On second thought, I get a kick out of people telling me that the cover is not locked and that my cues are going to fall out of the case. In spite of the top cover not having a latch, I haven't had one shaft or cue hit the floor.

This case and the first one are what I call pattern cases. They are made using the same pattern over and over. Whitten and Justis for example use pretty much the same pattern and vary the decoration. And that is fine. So for cases that have no particular purpose other than to indulge my desire to create I may decide to use this pattern, a Flowers/Swift?Justis pattern or some other that works well to "paint" on.
For the customs I do the cases will each have a completely unique pattern. The use of or lack of rivets on those will be by desire and design between myself and the customer.
For the random JB Cases that will appear the pattern could be anything with rivets or without - really just depends on what I feel like doing. Right now it's easiest to use the scallop pattern as I already have the dies to cut those pieces. And I think that it's a great design that lends itself challenging the toolers to work in constrained spaces.

Anyone who pre-orders a case from me can have the straps and handles anywhere they want. For this one I chose not to change the location because I want to showcase the work on the back of the case.
On my personal case I have a backpack system because I walk a lot now. I don't own a car so I walk to the poolrooms - luckily about five within ten minute's walk. I have thickly padded straps so I hardly feel the weight.
But this falls into the category of custom. I will do whatever anyone wants on a custom case. On the cases such as this one I don't really care too much about how someone will wear it. I have been around so long in this business to know that there is no one-size-fits all. For every person that says they like the strap on the back comes another one who likes it on the side, or like no strap. Believe me, I even have several experiements lying around the workshop here with D-rings in three locations on the case for the user to put the strap where they want. It's very practical and looks like crap.
When it comes time to do yours I will make sure that the strap is exactly where you want it! I promise.
Now, He AND Buddy Hall Won't Let Me Watch Their Cues
This post reminded me of the time that Mr. Joey A. was playing a match for jellybeans and he needed to go to the restroom. He entrusted ME to hold and 'keep an eye' on his expensive favorite playing cue (I think it was his Bender) until his return.
My parting words were, "I may take one of your shots for you." While he was away (and to everyone's delight) I switched his cue with a house cue. As he neared the table upon his return, I stood up (as if from a shot) and said loudly, "I can't believe that I missed that shot" and raised the cue quickly above my head and slammed it on the floor with a loud WHACK.
Joey A. stopped in his tracks, his face got beet red and his eyes bulged out and he began to rumble like a volcano. The entire room (that had been sweating the match) cracked up..... Joey A. doesn't fluster easily.
A picture of him at that point would make the PERFECT avatar.... imo

Well this is the version I am using for one of my cases. This is a personal case I made for my own pleasure. It's made of canvas, is heavily padded and has two straps that unclip and adjust just like a backpack. I made it this way so that it's easy to sling in taxis, doesn't hurt people I bump into, and is easy to unclip from either side to clear tight spaces.
The case isn't much compared to the art on the tooling cases but it's more my personal style - kind of modernist.
The straps are adjustable vertically and horizontally. This way I can adjust it to exactly my body type and wear the case at it's most comfortable position. I put memory foam pads on the shoulder padding. It's bulky but carries nicely and feels good walking down the street. I don't even know it's there and have full mobility.
For leather cases I can add d-rings to any part of the case for clip on straps. Or I can make them permanently attached. Whatever is requested can be accommodated.
Talisman style, Murnak style, Jansport, Swiss Gear, what ever you want the straps to be on a custom case I will make it. I can and will do ergonomic back padding like on high end backpacks if you want. Challenge me and be willing to pay for it
