LD shaft help

The Tiger Pro X has a harder hit and more deflection than the Z2. I personally don't like it, but I can understand why some would. Tiger makes a quality product and in fact I played for a year or so with a tiger blank that was custom tapered by a cue maker. The quality and playability was very good, but I went back to the z2 because it just suits my playing style better and I've been playing with it ever since.

The Jacoby shaft I've only tried once, so I don't really remember a lot about it. I remember it was good and I got good spin on the ball, but that I didn't have the same control as with my Z2. Jacoby cues are very popular around here, and they make a quality product.

In summary I don't think you could go wrong with either quality wise. They will both deflect more than the z2, and they have different feels. The Edge Hybrid definitely hits softer than the Tiger Pro X. To me, that's a plus, it might not be to you.

I like a bit of swerve if I need it to maneuver around edges of balls if I'm partially hooked. I prefer to call it "controlled" swerve.

I find it hard to believe that you get hooked that slightly often enough to even consider that.

By the same logic, what about all of those times you aren't hooked, but close and want to use english that causes you to swerve into a ball that otherwise wasn't in the way?

Your logic is flawed.

@euro - you actually said "deflection has nothing to do with shot speed, even in a house cue"

this is incorrect and the little winky face insinuates it is something everyone should know.......which is really funny considering you were completely wrong.

This is a really good resource:

http://billiards.colostate.edu/threads/squirt.html#speed

Cue elevation can play a factor but is not needed to induce swerve.

Also, brandon the billiard guy on youtube does some good review videos where he shows the deflection for soft, medium and hard hits for all of the cues they sell (select billiards)

I expect with the vantage that it is more along the lines of predator figuring out how to lower deflection on harder hits.

Sorry about the wink, it was only a complicity one, not for insinuating anything.

0º cue elevation produces 0 swerve because yue vector of the angular velocity is perpendicular to the surface. You only get swerve if the cueball is sliding and not rolling.
I know very well Dr. Dave website, did you read the Squirt does not vary with speed sentence in the link you posted? you were refering (what your words but maybe not your mind) to deflection of the cue ball, not the "effective deflection" that can be influenced by other factors (we can add here a unlevel table too).
We can say I was wrong, I was only talking about pure cue ball deflection, but according to your thoughts, how is swerve influenced by the use of one shaft or another?

why not try an OB shaft? They are great shafts and have great customer service if you ever have any problems with their products. I have an OB2+ and love it. Ive seen many others that prefer their Classic+ as well.

I have been using a Z2 for the last couple of years. I recently got a Katana 2 and that shaft played very well. Then I got a Z2 tuned and I really liked it. I'm wanting to try something else now, I am getting a new cue and I need to send him some partials so I was thinking about trying the Tiger Pro-X or The Jacoby Edge Hybrid and I wanted to see if you guys have tried them and your thought's on the 2. Lots of guys tell me if I tried the Tiger I would never want to shot with anything else but I haven't got to try one yet. But the Jacoby Edge Hybrid sounds like it might be good as well.
Thanks for all your thoughts

I'm not an LD man in the least but of all the LD's I've played the Z2 is utterly amazing.
I'd stay with it and never look back.
I play with solid maple because of so many things but
as far as LD's go my favorite by far is the Z2.
I've tried the OB's the Mezz, Jacoby, Viking etc etc....
Z2 all the way.
It's fun to play with it because you don't need to hit the cueball
hard to get amazing action on it.

Ss360/2

I played with all shafts mentioned in this thread , the tiger x pro is the best out of those mentioned here .

But there's a shaft that's even better : SS360/2 from Bob Danielson , you can buy a partial shaft from him .

I have three of his shafts. Two from Gen 1 and one from Gen 2.

My advice to the OP if you're used to the Z2 you can't go wrong with it.
It's not whippy and problematic like the others are.

Besides, if you want another shaft for another cue or just decide you want a backup all you need is order one and it'll be in your hands in a matter of days.
Get as many as you want.

With the Danielson you have to go on a waiting list and......wait.....and then wait some more... :boring2: ..and should something happen to it......well.....best of luck, you're back to square one.

I got back out my Z2 tuned shaft to make sure that I want to try something different and I'm not sure if I am in the right state of mind. Because the shaft shoots so good. I think for my new cue I will get Z3's to be made with it because if the Z2 is this good I can only imagine how good the Z3 will be! To address the person comment that I will never be happy because I think my equipment makes me play better you got the 7 for 3k anytime! I have been playing with small diameter shafts my whole life(well the 27 years I've been playing this crazy game)and I started playing with the original "Z" shaft when they 1st came out and I have been using them ever since, just different versions of it. I played a set tonight in a tournament with the Katana and I was off a lot went back to the Z2 and everything went back to normal!! Thanks for all you guys input! I still would like to try the Mezz HP2

I can definitely recommend the Tiger X-Pro. I was playing with a Jacoby Hybrid Edge when I got a Tiger X-Pro in a trade deal. Got it just to try an 11.75mm shaft as I'd never had one before. The Tiger has a really great feel to it, very firm hitting, and I love the stock Onyx tip (I hate Everest tips and had a Wizard put on my Jacoby Hybrid Edge). I've tried Jacoby and OB as well and think they're both very nice shafts, but I'm using the Tiger now and loving it.

Pretty much my experience as well. I really like the 11.75 Tiger shaft. Thought I'd be put of by how narrow the shaft is but not at all.

Good call

Yeah I want to try the Mezz Hybrid Pro 2. I asked the board looking for one and I keep getting people trying to get me to buy their Alphas I just wish the Mezz came in a smaller shaft size.
Well, then u must like the Wx900@12mm , the lowest deflection of mezz shaft ( mika 's shaft ) people that used it say it plays like s Z2 but more solid.

I haven't try it , give it a try n see if u like it :)

I have the xpro, and have shot with the hybrid edge. They are both very nice, and ou really can't go wrong with either one. Neither has the strong solid feel of a regular shaft, but neither feels particularly whippy either. The hybrid edge is more expensive, which is partially why I went with the tiger, especially since their hit was very similar to me.
They both help with ball squirt in a simar manner also. I would just hit each and see which feels better to you.
