Le He Wen almost kills Darren Appleton

Well .. someone should clarify with Darren but I don't think it was accident. If he didn't bump 6 or 8 (to give himself easier shot on 6 from 5), position on the 6 from 5 would have been difficult, especially under the pressure. He did take a bit of time before hitting that shot, planning out the pattern. He may have been trying to bump the 6 so it would've had clear lane to the corner pocket blocked by 8. These guys have amazing talent to execute the patterns more precisely than "amateurs".

If my recollection is intact, he could of hit either side of the 6 and been just as well off, a Very High % shot well executed for the win.

It's just you...LOL

Is it just me or that diamond tables there played too easy?

You play on it, and see how easy it is....LOL. Especially with the added pressure of a world championship on the line.

It's just that they are that good....

I think you are right.

[This refers to the last rack.]

I wonder whether that was intentional. The 8-ball was blocking the 6-ball for the closest corner pocket, but the 6-ball would go in four other pockets. Trying to bump the 6-ball after making the 3-ball in that situation raises the possibility of a bad outcome (such as a snooker). Yet if he didn't want to bump the 6-ball, it seems like he could have gotten good position on the 5-ball by just going one rail from the 3-ball instead of two rails. So I don't know.

But if I had to guess, I'd say he just tried to go two rails around the 8- and 6-balls, accidentally bumped the 6-ball, and came out OK.

Thoughts?

I have to think he wanted to go around them. Can't imagine he'd take the chance of bumping it at that stage of the game-match.

Then again, don't know if I would have shot that jump on the 2 either.

Eager to hear the story too.

(DARREN.....pls)

What do you all think? After Darren being up 11-3, and almost losing the match, I think if he doesn't get it at the end, he would have killed himself.

What a comeback by the Chinese player... he too deserves the title in my opinion.

Its because he was chinese... Dont you get that??

Im not talking about this final particularly. It seems to me that corner pockets plays like buckets.

Daz was hammering this guy and even if he lost it would of been his
by his own hand. When he threw his cue,he had the look of''finally I
can stop playing this stupid game now".

It was a typical 9 ball match to me. Everything goes right for one player for a while....then he gets tired or overconfident and starts making small mistakes. Other player starts seeing balls he had not seen for a while and his confidence builds...there is a great scene at the beginning of the last rack where Le is chalking his cue with determination and new hope...and Darren is looking down muttering even though it is his break..match could have went either way! Great match great celebration great tables :)
Great stream I love the slo mo shots of each rack after the rack is over!!!

So I guess you don't like Hill/Hill
It's only the most exciting thing in pool

How would win by 2 be any less epic. Imagine in this case the final score being 22 - 20 for example. There could have been several possible match ending moments in that format. An extra hour of these two guys battling it out for the extra 20k with all the added pressure wouldn't be exciting at all...

I only watched the last rack. Thanks Nick B for posting the link.

What a dramatic finish, judging from Darren's body language and his celebration afterwards it must have been a hell of a match.

It looked as if Wen could of almost cut the 2 in the corner? He played safe and left the jump shot.I think Darren was going around the 8 and the 6 but the bump turned out nicely for him.He may have been half on tilt and not thinking clearly or just to much adrenaline to control the CB perfectly.

The play on that 3 ball is to go 2 rails around both the 6 and the 8, bringing the CB back to just about dead center table. Then you play one rail off the 5 to get on the 6 in the same corner the 3 went in.

Darren missed that route by a fraction, but got a little bit fortunate and ended up in decent shape.

When your NOT breaking and its not your turn at the table, its unprofessional to be prepping your tip and chalking. Its no different than in 14.1 when your opponent is gettin' ready to open up the next rack with his break, Hell you may never even get another shot, so what is your purpose? to save time, I find the action to be possibly very distracting to the person at the table, and ''out of line''.
You other point I find spot on with our sport on the top end, and similar to Tennis.

Lol. The cloth was new and that part of the world is very dry. That makes for some slide when shooting balls down the rail which enables them to fall into the pockets but I doubt that they played too easy because I didn't see any 10 packs.
