League scoring question

Player one breaks and makes 3 solids on the break. While attempting to pocket a solid on an open table player one misses the shot and pockets the 8 ball. What is the score? 10-3 or 10-0? My gut instict is to say 10-0 but I would like a little feed back. BCA league scoring. Thanks in advance.
 
I think its mostly out of courtesy, but i always give the player a 10-3 score. Because i guess i don't really know :/
 
10 - 0 for opponent

It would be 10 - 0 since no balls(stripes/solids) were set for either player after the break. The player that made the 8ball early would get zero points, and the "winner" would get 10 for the win. Since points are determined by what ball you are, then the early 8 ball with no balls chosen would cause the score. At least that is how we have always played it here in New Orleans.

That is about how I saw it as well... No one has selected stripes or solids so no one can claim those points... Thanks

I agree with this. If he would have just missed it is still a open table. If on his first shot after the break he made a solid and scratched it is still open. The player has to make a legal shot to claim a group.
 
Okay, I have a question that I PROBABLY should have already known the answer to, but I don't. I play in a non-sanctioned BCA 8-ball league. In the scenario the OP spoke of, the winner would have scored an 8-0 win. In true BCA format, how do you come up with 10 points for an 8-ball win?

1 point per ball and the 8 ball is worth 3 points in BCA.

Table is always open on the break, since no soilds or stripes have been established, the loss of game results in a 10 point count for the incoming player and the balls pocketed on the break which ever higher # of stripes or soilds, pocketed count toward the lossing player. ie: 2 stripes and 1 soild in on break, loser gets 2 points

I disagree, I think. I would have said one point per ball and a win is worth 10 points.

If a player, during the course of normal play sinks the 8-ball out of turn, his opponent is given 10 points. Thus a WIN is worth 10 points .... however the winner got there.
