Leather vs. Irish Linen vs. Unwrapped

I have all three and love each one for their own uniqueness. Leather should be textured, linen should be rough and coarse and wrapless should be hand rubbed or oiled, IMHO.

I usually hold my cue behind any wrap (even on my >60 cue), so why I need the wrap? I prefer wrapless with oil finish, it feels great.

I've had all three and currently am using a wrapless sneaky, but I have a textured leather ordered and a linen in the planning stages. I like traditional cues with the appropriate wrap for that type of cue. For example, I like Rambow style cues with smooth leather and Szamboti cues with linen. Wrapless sneakies are great as are exotic wood handles. For me, the bottom line is that if I play with any given cue with great dynamics, balance and hit, the wrap will become normal to me in a few days. After a few weeks it's like a part of me, regardless of the type of wrap. I had a Josswest that came with linen and had leather later. Either one played equally well...Tom

I've always been an irish linen guy. But back when I was younger that is really about all you saw on the higher quality cues. The look of the wrapless cues just hasn't generally appealed to me. I do have a custom on order that I'm having leather put on but this is mainly to try it out and since it is an upgrade in cost should add some value to the cue. The other cue I have on order that I intend on being my player is coming with linen.

For me I think it's just a matter of personal preference and much of it has to do with what I'm used to. Who knows, I may end up loving the leather wrap I have coming. But me and linen go way back.

I like coarse Irish linen. I recently picked up a cue with a very worn linen wrap, and the texture is just right for me. I'm getting it rewrapped, but will stress that the new linen should have plenty of bite.

Leather is pretty good, depending on the texture of the particular piece. I doubt I'll ever have a leather wrap though, because I prefer the appearance of linen.

Wrapless is too slick for me.

I haven't tried cork or leather cord.

When i made the deano cue i made it to play with,it is basically a wrapless full splice,i intentionally did not use a high gloss finish because they tend to get sticky in the right hand,i prefer the oil hardened finish for playing, but it would not look as pretty.

That is why they started using irish linen in the first place,to absorb the moisture on your back hand.

I have used both linen and wrapless over the past 14 years. I would have to say that I prefer linen wraps. I haven't personally used leather wrapped cues, but will try one soon.

Linen is my preference, then leather far second, and I dont like wrapless or coated cues.

I like my linen pressed or maybe even double pressed.

For all of the linen fans.

Does it matter if the wrap is installed clockwise or counterclockwise?

What about where the wrap is started from? If it is started from the butt the spiral would also be different than if it was started at the front. It would be like a left hand or right hand thread.

Cork>Leather>Linen>Wrapless for me

Cork is the only thing I will ever have on my personal playing cues. I actually prefer wrapless on my break cues though... I like the feel of wrapless but my hands get sticky if I use it on my playing cue.
