I just got back from Florida a few days ago and I thought I'd give a little review of my experience with John Schmidt.
I was the first one to take John up on his offer of coming to his house for a couple of days and taking private lessons. It was a great experience and I am really happy that I made the decision to go.
I was very happy with the results I received from the lessons. John spent a solid 10 hours working with me. In addition I received a ton of playing time on his table. We started off working on my fundamentals. John helped me figure out why I was missing long straight ins, and by the end of the lessons I was stroking much straighter than when I showed up. I am very happy with the stroking pattern and stance that John showed me as well. After that we worked on various things like pattern play, safety play, kicking and banking systems, decision making, and a few other things. These are the aspects of my game that needed the most improvement at this point in time. If you take a lesson with John he will work with you on whatever your game needs.
I wasn't sure how it was going to work being a house guest and taking lessons but looking back on it, I can tell you it is a great way to go. You don't have to fool with a pool hall, or the people/distractions that are there. Another benefit is you have essentially unlimited playing time. John would work with me for a little bit, then he let me have the table to myself so I could work on the things he showed me. I could take a rest and watch tv whenever I needed, then I could get right back to the table and practice some more. This turned out to be a very good system. As result, I picked up the teachings very quickly.
As far as being a house guest, that was the best part of the deal. I had all the food and beverages a human could possibly need. I had my own bedroom with a tv and easy access to restroom and kitchen. John and Rachael are extremely nice and they make you feel right at home. For those of you who don't know them they both have great personalities, we were laughing and having a good time the entire trip. As far as personality goes, they both give most people the 7.
If you get the opportunity to do this do not pass it up. My only complaint is John said he would beat Sigel and he didn't lol. J/K
