Lesson at John Schmidt's house!

I just got back from Florida a few days ago and I thought I'd give a little review of my experience with John Schmidt.

I was the first one to take John up on his offer of coming to his house for a couple of days and taking private lessons. It was a great experience and I am really happy that I made the decision to go.

I was very happy with the results I received from the lessons. John spent a solid 10 hours working with me. In addition I received a ton of playing time on his table. We started off working on my fundamentals. John helped me figure out why I was missing long straight ins, and by the end of the lessons I was stroking much straighter than when I showed up. I am very happy with the stroking pattern and stance that John showed me as well. After that we worked on various things like pattern play, safety play, kicking and banking systems, decision making, and a few other things. These are the aspects of my game that needed the most improvement at this point in time. If you take a lesson with John he will work with you on whatever your game needs.

I wasn't sure how it was going to work being a house guest and taking lessons but looking back on it, I can tell you it is a great way to go. You don't have to fool with a pool hall, or the people/distractions that are there. Another benefit is you have essentially unlimited playing time. John would work with me for a little bit, then he let me have the table to myself so I could work on the things he showed me. I could take a rest and watch tv whenever I needed, then I could get right back to the table and practice some more. This turned out to be a very good system. As result, I picked up the teachings very quickly.

As far as being a house guest, that was the best part of the deal. I had all the food and beverages a human could possibly need. I had my own bedroom with a tv and easy access to restroom and kitchen. John and Rachael are extremely nice and they make you feel right at home. For those of you who don't know them they both have great personalities, we were laughing and having a good time the entire trip. As far as personality goes, they both give most people the 7.

If you get the opportunity to do this do not pass it up. My only complaint is John said he would beat Sigel and he didn't lol. J/K

Thats cool and exactly what I expected you to say, John is a great guy, I know him a little but have been told alot of good things by alot of people who know him real good, I havent heard anything bad, John is a class act.

As far as last night its great now its 1-1 between them so we gotta have a rematch, in a short race like that anything can happen, John missed the ball and that was it, it was a 6 inning game I thing and that included 2 intentional saftys, John could have easill won that set, I'd love to see them play to 500.

Also I believe that John will beat the 526 set by Mosconi within 5 years if he puts alot of effort into it.

thanks for the story and I hope more people take up John on his school.

Im jealous. What did this cost? a grand???
If so im looking for sponsors to the john schmidt summer pool camp. Any one interested???? (looks at the poster above me)

I make a prediction that I will be writing a similar review after the two vacations that I already have booked are over and I'm looking for something else to do.

Does his table have full clearance with no jacked up spots?

Full clearance.

S0lidz,
Great review! John is an awesome teacher, an awesome player, and a great person to hang out with. John's personality is very laid back, and honest and it puts everybody at ease. Because of that, he is a great teacher.

What a great opportunity John is offering by opening his home to teach players - if you have the means to get there - please take advantage of learning from one of the greatest players in the world.

On a side note...

Hey John, in exchange for that plug - can I have that Golf Digest when you're done with it?

:D

sounds like a lot of fun and a great learning experience! Where in florida does he live?

As Blackjack already pointed out, you do have full clearance. John has a nice room for a 9 footer.
