Let's bombard ESPN with complaints

Tv has to accomodate the ever seemingly higher number of people that must have ADHD or ADD.
I call it the dumbing down of broadcasting.
Not to say that I do not admire the talent and skill of the people who put in an enormous effort to do those shots, but the broadcast does not show how difficult it really is.
And ofcourse networks are only really interested in ratings, as that is income.
The show is only a byproduct to make money.

Hawks fans everywhere.

I tried to catch some of the pool on ESPN,even sufered thru some bowling waiting for it(well it wasn't that bad). But I ended up missing it for the playoff game, looks like I didn't miss much.I am just happy that pool gets any kind of TV coverage.

It accured to me during the bowling broadcast that like pool on the internet the coverage(bowling) is geared towards those who are involved in the game, probably mostly league bowlers.

It's not really that the networks don't care about pool. The networks don't care what they are airing as long as it is making money. If the American Public watched pool on TV and advertisers paid for ad time within the show, networks would air it. It really is that simple. What brings in the money gets put on air. I work in TV by the way.

Why do you think there are so many reality shows on TV. It is cheap to produce, the American Public watches it, so advertisers buy time in the show, and the network makes a ton of money.

I thought this was obvious, but maybe not. Trick shots are more intriguing to the non pool player, so that is what gets played. Most people do not understand the skill it takes to run a few racks, but boy is it cool when someone can make 4 balls in one shot.

You're on the wrong forum, lame Larry. Get a clue, or show up for your drowning. Better yet, take your silly schtick to a pool hall and see where it gets you. Busted thumbs and an empty wallet is my guess.

I don't believe you own this forum.

Send them video clips of the Mosconi Cup of 2010 and the Mosconi Cup this year and see what they think. I can see it now!!! The burger eating GUN-HO american public having a blast as we (or US of A) gives those stinking Europeeans a good lesson on that there pool table!!!

Seriously though.... If you did send ESPN clips of the Cup (especially 2010 and the all serious 2011 event!!!) i think it might make a spark under their asses!! Just think of the sponsors you could get with that LETS GO USA mentality!!!! Am i the only one that see's the Mosconi Cup as a HUGE bargaining chip here??

I hear what you're saying but I don't think there's enough $$$ for ESPN to care enough to air the Mosconi Cup. Nothing is a bargaining chip if the other side doesn't want it. More so, if the masses don't want to watch it, then no one will buy advertising, no advertising, no show. It's really pretty simple. Pool is not what the majority of people want to watch on TV.

I saw the TV guide listing for ESPN2 and it said Billiards so I thought i'd watch the pitiful coverage, but like some said it's better than nothing. When I tuned in it was "trick shots" and I changed the channel quickly. Trick shots are not for me and I have absolutely no interest in them. It's a shame that the US TV networks don't care about pool when other countries around the world broadcast pool in prime time. I don't get it.......

ESPN will show love to anything that can pull decent ratings. Pool doesn't pull ratings, so it gets used as counterprogramming against stuff that the majority of people want to watch (NFL). It is filler, plain and simple. When programming consistently pulls around a 0.2 Nielsen number, there's not much reason to push that sort of programming. And yes, the WPBA, speed pool, trick shots and even the men's challenge of champions all pull around the same Nielsen ratings.

It isn't US TV networks that don't care about pool. Its the US TV watching population.
