Let's help Jack Hynes

My fellow gentlemen and ladies from AzB's,

I'm writing you today because, while reading old posts in the "Main Forum", I've found about Jack Hynes and the difficult situation that he's living now and I felt that we should do something for him. In the short time that I've been here on AzBilliards Forums I've been able to see how strong this community can be helping others and I'm sure that many of you have what it takes to put aside the man's mistakes and lend him a hand. Also, I know that there's still a lot of Christmas spirit in us to do a little to improve the life of a person most of you, as I do, know only for his legend.

For those who have never heard of him, you can read about him in this thread (some say this is one of the best threads ever, so please take your time to read it completely if you can):

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=86645

The man is described as a genius, a world class player and also as a hustler, a crook, a lier and a drug addict and the ones who know him admit that all those things are true. In the last four years, he was given up for dead many times, yet the last news we had from his is that he's still alive, but living a life of deprivation being homeless. I'm sure that he is no angel but I'm also sure that many of you (particularly the ones that have been on the road) know how this game can put some people on the edge and how easy is to go the wrong way.

I've been unable to find any updated news on him and I hope that we are not too late.

It would be great if any of you knew where is he now and would like to share it with the rest of us so we can find a way to help the man to stand back again.

From Spain, there's not much that I can do to find him, but I'll do my part if any of his friends who can still keep in touch with him helps me to.

Thank you all for your support; I'll be waiting for your comments.

(Sorry for my English)

Best regards,

Iago

You are incorrect... I have "insider" knowledge. Just watch America's Most Wanted. John Walsh, in conjunction with TMZ...will soon disclose that Jack Hynes is ACTUALLY D.B. Cooper.

And--he's living "somewhere" in the Klamath Valley.... secretly making top notch cues under the nom de plume of Bill Stroud. :p;):p

David, those are really great news; I’m glad that he is doing much better than all the last posts that I could find about him were stating. He’s lucky to have friends like you. I’ve just sent you a private message.

To “The Saw” and “(((Satori)))”: I think that you are right and the post by Mr. David Harcrow just proves it. How many people do you know that can be playing golf and doing OK just some years after being broke, homeless, addicted and even left for dead? That he’s doing well now not only lifts our hearts but also shows how unique person he is.

Thank you all who offered me a hand to help a fellow player when we thought he was needing us and to all who shared his comments with us.

If any of you are planning to attend the next AGP Tournament in Vigo and want to meet me, I’ll be the guy wearing the “JACK HYNES LIVES!” T-Shirt.

It's tough not to admire you and all who want to help anyone who is down in life. I've contributed a few thousand over the years through the forum to help major forum contributors who are down and other worthy people to pursue a pool-related dream, and that's when the forum tends to help people out.

Jack Hines, a man who didn't participate regularly in this forum and was a hustler and crook, is unworthy of this forum's support. The notion that because one has played great pool, one has necessarily contributed to our sport is one of AZB's greaest myths.

I wish Jack better times, as I do all who are afflicted or disadvantaged in any way, but, outside of those who know him and think he's worthy of support, I'd think it beneath the dignity of ths forum to support such a man financially.

Financial support through this forum, in my opinion, should be reserved for those who are either frequent contributors to this forum, have brought great credit to our sport, or are pursuing a pool-related dream that AZB members believe in.

In short, thanks but no thanks.

Agreed - it would be like raising bail for Lindsay Lohan just because she's pretty.

Have you ever watched the Earl/Jack Hines match on You Tube?

I have to say, of all the matches I've watched, that's one on my favorite of all time. Earl was at his peak and Jack dished out all he could take. Jack could have been a world champion but just didn't have the character.

Jack Hines, who I've never met but may be a distant relative based upon his last name and where he is from, is I'm sure guilty of most of the things he is accused of doing and probably more. The only thing that separates him ethically from many politicians, businessmen and others is he isn't sophisticated in his way of doing things. In the words of Shakespeare "a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more".

A man was inducted into the hall of fame a year or two ago who made his living lying, deceiving and hustling people and yet he is a beloved figure in the world of pool. A clever and sophisticated con man with a pool cue.
