JB Cases

Here is our latest entry into the Asian themes category. Seems like lots of dragon cases coming out and here is one for a customer that we just finished.

It's a butterfly 4x8 with the pockets on the inside.

The front features two opposing dragons surrounding the fireball of good fortune.

Inside the two pockets feature an imperial dragon on the small pocket and decorative dragon themed reliefs from around 3000 years ago on the longer pocket.

On the back we repeated the corner relief from the lower pockets and tooled the customer's name in the Made in China font that he picked out.

Then for the border around the zipper we created a common decorative infinity design.

The empty weight of this case is 3lbs and the full weight is 8lbs.

This is so beautiful and is just the design (looks and function) that I have had in mind for a long time but never committed until now. I'm so happy I did.

The larger photos that John sent to me show the great workmanship and attention to detail.

John, thank you so much. I can't wait to show it to all my Pinoy friends!!!!

After using it for a while I will give you my feedback on the usability.

Not far from the case I'll be ordering. Put 2x4 (design change.. makes for wider pockets) tubes in that puppy and a top flap and we're just about there.

You're right about the side handle being on the spine.

I don't like dragons but that's a nice case John.

You're welcome. Thank you to you and Roy Malott for the order.

Thank you. Yours will definitely be a fun project and I am looking forward to it.

Very nice. Cool how the pouches come out!

With velcro.

How much would something like this cost? Could you do a 2x4,3x5,3x6 version?

We can do any size. I don't charge any different for sizes from 2x2 - 4x8.

This basic case starts at $450 and increases in price with the decoration and complexity.

This particular case would be around the $900-$1100 range.

This is Quite the Case! Great tooling!

And I really like how the accessory pouches are "mobile".

Because I walk to the local pool hall in Makati City (Puyat Superbowl at Makati Cinema Square) my other cases, even though they really are the nutz, are heavy and my shoulder gets tired from carrying. This case will be much lighter and better suited to what I carry and because, as Will pointed out, the pouches are very portable and useful.

John also made the shoulder strap really great with an hour glass shape to fit between my shoulder and neck and is padded. He used some non slip suede leather with foam in between the pad.

Even though this case does not have tubes and is not thick, hard leather, it will protect my cues just fine.

I hope to get delivery by today or tomorrow.

Wanted to post a few more pictures

These are some more pix. I wanted to show off the interior a little more. It's the one I have been bragging about since February and been working on since December.

I have wanted to reinvent the interior for the semi-hard butterfly case for nearly 16 years now. My first departure from the sleeve type was the Instroke butterfly with the elastic bands to hold the cues. Basically the same as the Porper rollup with some form to it. This was never one of my better ideas. It worked but it was a pain in the butt to use and you always had to be pretty careful when putting the cues in or taking them out. Still though people like it and I used the 16x32 dealer version for a long time and a lot of events.

Generally though people like to have their cues in fully separated cavities. So I redesigned the sleeve system for the butterfly case to what you see here. I really feel that this is the most efficient way to make this case and it's also the easiest to use.

I cannot stand the flap in Porper's version of the butterfly case. Murnak also uses a flap and just about every el-cheapo butterfly style case uses the flap. To me the flap is a pain in the butt and it's not pretty. Now I am normally not a beauty contest type of guy when it comes to function but this is one exception as I refuse to do do the stupid flap. :-)

So with that in mind here is my solution. With the v-cuts in the cavities it is very easy to reach and extract your cue parts as well as easy to put them back in. No need to hassle with a flap and you can use the case like a regular tube case by opening it partway and getting your equipment out. You can see at a glance where your parts are.

And none of the parts can touch each other at any point. Everything stays put until you decide to take it out.

Also on the bottom we have sewn it so that it's like a tube and not like a bag. Thus the cue rests easily without the fabric pulling down on it. Not that this is THAT big a deal but when packing 4 butts and 8 shafts into each side I found that this method relieves pressure and torq on the cues at the bottom. And it's neater.

Hi Al,

Yes I will be making the rounds showing this off for sure. I will first show it to AnitoKid, Kaye and Lei, and then Lester Dulawan and the crew at Makati Cinema Square.

Had a simple barbeque dinner with my brother, Jeff, last night,
and had the chance to see the case up close.

IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL! And I kid you not!

Everything about it is so perfect! The tooling, the stitches,
handle, strap, removable pockets - as in everything!

Truth be told, IT IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CASES
I HAVE EVER SEEN!

@John: You are the man! I know you make beautiful cases,
the best ones on earth, but this case is the nuts!

Last night I said to Jeff: "You know what I've always felt about
JB (John Barton)?

Jeff: "What, AK?"

AK: "John is a man ahead of our times. John is the Michael Jordan
of cue case making! The Tiger Woods! And please allow me to say so,
the Efren Reyes! Simply put, JB is a genius."

Keep 'em coming, John! Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!

@Jeff: You are one lucky guy, brother! The case is not just a JB case.
It is one beautiful work of art! Congratulations for having such a
masterpiece, my kapatid!
