Quote;Jay Helfert: I partnered up with Kris to finish second in a big bar box tourney in Palm Springs 20+ years ago. We played Mike Massey and Robin Bell (Dodson) in the finals. I talked to her about a year ago. She's living in Tennessee or thereabouts and has a couple of kids. She has been on here once or twice.

She learned it ALL from "Little Joe" Villalpando!!!

Jay was talking about Kris Turner, who in 1981 could hardly hold a pool cue. But, by 1986 she was a prominent player on the women's tour. Like Jay said, she did learn it all from Lil Joe Villalpando, the greatest pool instructor in this country.

Joe has taught many champions the fine parts of the game. The entire "Behnke" family, Adam, Ryan, Levi and 12 year old Chad who won the 14 and under division of Allen Hopkins Super Billiards Expo.

He has taught players the caliber of, Josh Johnson, "Chyenne" Pete Trujilo, IA and IL state champion, Dan Shephard. IA men's masters winner, Tony Brigman and 9 times MVP in the Davenport area Russ Jett.

If you have any interest in taking your game to a new level you owe it to yourself to contact Lil Joe......... http://www.pooliq.net/aboutdvd.htm.

You might notice, Kris Turner, went by another last name in 1986 when she won this tournament..........

I remember well when they hooked up. Kris was a tireless worker and as Bill said, could hardly hold a cue. They made a good team and a cute couple. They were fun to be around.

I have (2) of Joe's DVD, well worth the price paid for the information. Hope Joe's does a few more DVD's.

Bill,

Never met the man, but it sure sounds like "Little Joe" would be where I'd be looking for quality instructions. Only trouble is, I'm trying to save up $30,000.00 so I can take Arty up on his claim to make me, (or anyone with 30K) the "world's greatest one pocket player".
Hmmm, what does Joe charge for lessons ?

Ain't that the damdest thing you ever heard of? Like I said though, I would pay big bucks to see the one pocket match of a life time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Artie & Billy vs Grady and you.....

30 years ago, maybe. Today, I would break poor Grady's back. (he's way to old to carry me.)

I hear ya. I would hate to handicap the match but I would have to assume Billy would be the top player of the 4,,,,,,,,,,TODAY. He has stayed in pretty good shape physically but so has Grady.

You can imagine Billy down on a ball and Arite notices he is not playing safe but trying to run 8 and out from about 8' away. "WAIT A MINUTE", Artie screams. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?"!!!

No one other than Artie himself really knows how he is playing now. He says 25 years without hitting a ball. That's one of the reasons I would empty out just to watch this game. Plus, you have to be the only top OP player I have never seen play. I saw Cooney play once but he didn't have to stretch out to beat me, LOL.

You guys make this thing happen, Dick. You could make some serious cash. I know for a fact that Artie has more cash than his spelling would indicate, LOL.

Really glad we are having this discussion over here and not over there. I could be drawing heat from A & F both.

Joe is a great guy and his DVD's are excellent. Look for him at www.pooliq.net

There is no doubt you are right, Jim. If people who want to improve their game can not make it to Iowa to receive personal instructions from Joe, the next best thing are the DVDs. It is so easy to understand what Joe is teaching on them. There is no technical phraseology that is hard to understand. Every word spoken on the videos is easily tranferable to your game.

Yes, Joe is my friend but I have never and will never endorse anything that I don't believe will improve the user's game.

I've got both of his DVDs. I really like them, because they don't give you any drills. They just present concepts. I hate the videos that show someone setting up and failing at their own drills.

He's Helped me alot also!!!!

Did that artical in Pool & Billiards mag say who was all at the tourney or who she had to play?
I am one of the lucky one's to have watched the tourney there. I was a young inexperinced house man back then. It was the early days of Miller Time Billiards back then.

Yes it did.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, Terry but I had to do a lot of searching to find the rest of the article. As you can see below, she beat some top notch women players of the day.

The market has reduced Artie's price to $15,000.00 since he already gave up so much information in that interview with www.onepocket.org

At 15 thousand the price is getting more attractive.

My two cents

I figured I will throw my two cents in on this conversation (as if anyone cares)

I have meet with Joe 3 times. Each time he has showed me something new and amazing. I thought that I was a decent player before meeting with Joe, but since then I have seen my game going up. I make so many more banks and kicks now, it is crazy. I need to go back for some more knowledge soon. He definetly doesn't try and break the bank either. He is really cheap for the lessons that you get. He really cares more about spreading the knowledge than he cares about the money. If you are anywhere around him or near D-port IA, I would recomend not letting your chance slip away. You will not be disappointed.

There is my two cents. Thanks.

I am usually not a rude person. Yet, I forgot to give credit to my great friend, Linda "Rackmsuckr" Carter. Bless you girl.

Linda, did all the foot work in digging up the cover and inside information on Kris' big win back in 1986. I did thank Linda but not here on this thread as I should have. You are the best, girl. IOU for sure. Linda informs me that her friend, Shari Stauch, deserves credit also for digging up the article. I also thank you, Shari.....

I lived in Denver for many years and ran into Joe quite often. We had some real bttles on the bar box.

Joe is a brother in law to Cheyennes own Pete Trujllo who a lot of old "Scuffs" recognize as a pretty darn good player and plays all games. Plus, a pretty nice guy.

When they went on the road together, They were quite a team.

Pete double steered me into Joe, but I got real lucky and escaped. We laughed about that for a long time.
