Lil John postings on the SB Board

yes steve, you are suppose to keep playing until you lose all your money and worthy possessions to the player with the bigger mouth and badder reputation, does not make a dern who is the better pool player. then when you lose all that, you get made fun of forever, but heaven forbid you win 1 dollar off the guy fair and square. no such thing as a graceful loser among pool hustlers.

pool gamblers = scum of the earth

This is too funny

Can someone explain this whole "ghost" bit to me? I fear I know little/nothing as far as how things work when it comes to hustling. :/

And you want to open a pooll room?lol. Read SJM's post, you should be able to figure it out from that.

On a 9ft table with 4.25-4.5 inch pockets, I would think Lil John has the nuts playing the ghost race to nine with one game on the wire. There has to be more to this story that we arent hearing...much like how the Boston episode there was more to that story than we all heard.

My guess is that Lil' John was using the $3500 to set the action up and then his backers would come in, they'd double the bet and all of a sudden Lil' John would figure out how the table played and would rob the guy. Am I being a little jaded? Not if you've played pool for 30 years!

The thing that confuses me the most is that Lil jon makes reference to the fact that this was one of the worst gambling experiences he's ever had!

Am I the only one that remembers the Boston incident?

Yes, I want to open a pool room. And yes, I'm aware I don't know as much as a lot of the folks here. I'm trying to learn. That's why I ask questions.

Running a room (especially in my area) and knowing the ins and outs of gambling are two different things, methinks.

Well, I too have played for more than 30 years, Rick, and you are not jaded. It just wouldn't work against ole George Carter. Lil Jon was simply out of stroke and ole George out ran the nuts. When he found out, he just kept running.

Aah! Thanks for the insight $Bill. Sounds like George was really gambling, got lucky and then realized that he got a great roll and opted to quit while he was ahead. Good for George!!

That is the most plausible explanation, but I just dont see how even out of stroke he lost getting one on the wire against the nineball ghost. I thought this guy played like AA speed or better. There are alot of plain old shortstop level players that would love to get down with the 9ball ghost around here in Florida. Ill name 5 off the top of my head, Melrose, Ladira, Braymore, Rose, J. Foster. I find it hard to believe that Lil John lost this game unless there was something funny going on, like a gaffe table, dumping, spreading, jarring....something.

Doesnt anyone here know the room where they played? Is there a gaffe trap table in there that is used to trap road dogs? Or was this played out on a regular 4.5x9 GC?

I say George saw he had no chance the next day. So he did the right thing. Is there a rule that says you have to bet until your bust? I think not.

That's one thing I always liked about poker. When you win they congratulate you and you can quit anytime you want.

When in doubt, do a search! Here are some helpful keywords: "Boston", "Lil Jon", "Ruberto"

C'mon kids. We can't rehash every little thing just to catch you all up. This should be explained in the rules of the forum when joining; SEARCH FIRST, ASK QUESTIONS LATER.

Sorry, this is just a pet peeve of mine.

Yea!, and if he was "setting something up" he should have stuck to one of Grady's golden rules for gambling....always win the first game/set so your playing on the other guys money!!

Uwate,
I also am puzzled. From what I've seen at DCC 2 years ago, Lil John seemed to be quite an accomplished player.

A former road player of my acquaintance beats the 9-ball ghost (on a super-tight Diamond table) like a red-headed stepchild, rarely losing even a game except on freak layouts where multiple balls get tied up. Let us know if you get any details.

I've heard of C.J. Wiley and George Breedlove beating the 12 ball and 13-ball ghosts. Anyone seen anything like this???

Efren beat the rotation (15-ball) ghost at Beach Club Billiards in Kissimmee, Fl a few years ago; I wasn't there but I heard it was a thing of beauty.

This might stir things up a bit, but it was liljon's BACKERS money that got heisted. I think you may want to consider it solely from this angle for a second and try to think of alternative explanations of how this money disappeared.

I don't think it was all of the backers' money. I think he and his road partner both had a substantial amount of dough in the 17-sand-bag post. Matter of fact, I believe, subject to check, that one of his backers was en route to Boston when the heist occurred. :o

HMMMM....Can't think of many backers that would pack that kind of weight on their horse and NOT ride him out of the barn. However, NONE of it makes sense. Bet the boston boyz are ROTFLTFAO:(

No Excuse!!!

I didnt know that my southern billiards post was on az but anyway there was no gaff, just a tight diamond that was real damp and springy and even though I thought i had the nuts the guy busted me. He wasnt obligated to give me a chance at my money back but the guy said he has worth 10 million dollars and I thought he should have gave me a chance to get a couple thousand back anyway. Like I said there was no contract and he won fair and square. I blame myself for not practicing before I left home and I would have never been in the spot to begin with. I got aggrevated when he offered another game after I was 3500 stuck and I agreed and he lost one game of one pocket for a nickel and quit after about 30 minutes. The Boston thing was no comparison and all I got back on that so far has been 300.00. I want to get out and start playing but it always seems that Im running up hill everytime I play. If anybody knows were I can get a fair game for atleast a couple of dimes with no problems and would love to come play. I miss playing and gambling but sometimes I wonder if all the bull that comes with it is really worth it........ JOHN
