Linen vs pig skin wrap weight difference

Hello,

I have a cue with a linen wrap that I would like replaced with pig skin. I understand that pigskin is thicker and the handle may require a little wood removed to fit the wrap.

My question has anyone changed over to pig skin or leather wraps from linen and has it affected the balance of the cue to any extreme or is it barley noticeable?

Cheers

My cue maker friend, Guido Orlandi, made me a cue with a Cork Wrap. It is GREAT. I won't be going back to linen or leather.

I would find it hard to believe if somebody said they could tell any weight difference with that change.

If you go to the Ask the Cuemaker forum in AZ a Cuemaker can likely provide a more precise response to your inquiry....to your satisfaction.
Good luck.

much difference

with linen I could run 75 balls in straight pool, I changed to pig skin, now I cannot run more than 17 or 18 balls, oh my god I have ruined my game.

If the trimming of the cue butt to accommodate the wrap worries you about the weight changing or the balance, the weight difference would be a few grams......probably not even worth worrying about .....IMO.

I prefer animal skin.

I went from Irish linen to ringtail lizard and the only difference it made to me, is the wrap no longer changes "feel" based on humidity. Sometimes my linen would feel damp or super dry - depending on the weather or season. Once I went to the lizard skin.. it seems completely resistant to moisture and always feels exactly the same (like a worn football).

I've heard of that happening. Turns out some cue makers were using skin from a pigs penis because it was about the right size to start with. Problem is, when the player starts stroking, everything seems to get stiffer and makes it harder to stay on the correct shot line.

If you play too much, then squirt becomes an issue.

you will not notice the difference.....just feel I prefer leather over linen, but that is me...personal preference comes in to play try a friends cue just for the grip then decide

I know that Kenny Koo uses his own leather that is the same thickness as the linen, might want to look to him for the leather wrap.

Wraps are a personal preference thing. I personally use leather for myself but wrap many cues in linen. As far as weight goes. Buy the leather from the right source and nothing will change.
Superior cues (Martin Bick) on here is on top of his game when it comes to proper thickness.
Cueman (Chris Hightower) also sells leather.
Castillo leather (Gil Castillo) is also on this forum.
Prathers cue parts is also on this forum. They also carry leather.
They all offer good selections of leathers.
Ask the right question before you buy and you'll be fine.
The question is.......
Is your leather close to the thickness of Irish linen?
Hope this helps.

Thank you I have been asking around some of the wrap sellers and cue makers if they had the skin the same thickness without any luck. I will try Kenny Koo. The cue is a 4 pointer Hoppe Tad and I just don't like the idea of having any maple removed from the handle, even a small shaving. I come from a snooker background and have played wrap-less for many years and just find linen to be too slippery for my grip. I had my Boar fitted with Pig Skin a few years ago and I play with it much better now.
