Lining up center cue ball and dominant eye

It's the same thing you see in supermarkets around the world. Giving away free products... Testers... To get the customer to have a taste of what could be theres. They make brands a lot of money. When you get something for free you tend to feel like you have to give something back... Money on a product you wouldn't usually buy. Say some cheese costs $5 rrp and you can cut it into 50 sample sizes, all you have to do is prey on 1 out of 50 people who try it for free and you've made the money back of the cheese you wasted to sample. In reality and if the product is of some worth... Ie nice in the cheese case you can expect to get at least a quarter of testers to spend money on the product in the future..turning that $5 into around $60.
It's a smart way to advertise and get the word out about your product, I just wish people would say it how it is and not go on about how there product is something special. Gouda is gouda, at the end of the day.

Had some fun at Shooters tonight....
A young man in his early 30's that plays in some of the tournaments at Shooters came in and started hitting some balls.
I've worked with him some on getting the dominant eye in the correct position with some pretty impressive success.
I figured I would check his alignment on the cue ball and it turns out that he is left handed and right eye dominant. Just the opposite of myself.
I come down naturally lined up to the left of center. He came down to the right of center.
First I told him he wasn't in the center. his reply was it looks like I am. I told him to keep his cue where it was and raise up his head and sure enough. He could then see that he was about a tip to the right.
He said WOW, I didn't even know that.
I let him try to get to the center for about 15 minutes and he always drifted back to the right just like most of the players that are not in the center. Finally he said, How do I get over there.
I told him ,Glad you asked.
I got him to get the dominant eye in the most dominant position and then come down and he could actually get to the middle and keep it there. He would drift back and I would tell him to get that dominant eye over and he would go right back to the middle.
Then I had him put a bunch of low left English on the cue ball and cut a ball to the right. He was amazed to see that he was only getting center English when he was trying to get left. There was no spin after the shot and he hit it too thick.
This is a huge problem for many players.
When he cut a ball to the left using right English he got way over to the edge of the ball with little effort. He could see this was much easier to get over to the right on the cue ball. it was pretty simple to see for himself.
This is why this young man has had so much trouble being consistent in the past. Once a person understands how it works they can work on it and get the English both ways and get the cue in the middle of the cue ball with little effort.
But you need to know which eye is dominant to figure out this puzzle.
I really don't know how I can even teach this on a video. it gets pretty involved. it was tough enough to figure this part out. It took almost 7 years of teaching and learning and trying to make it better and better.
it real easy to get confused when trying to learn this. But it is the real deal.
Anyone that doubts this can do this little test for themselves and I don't care what level your out. We almost all have this problem.
First get down and aim a straight in shot. Keep the cue where it is and just raise up your head.
If your cue is to the left of center on the cue ball set up about a 1/3 cut to the right and look the same way. Raise your head up and you will see that your not getting the amount of left English that you thought you were.
If your to the right of center it will be just the opposite.
This is a huge break through as far as figuring this out.
This is bigger than me. it's bigger than all of us. I don't even know where to start here.
This is the final piece to the puzzle and explains why we all have so much trouble making those balls we all love so much.
I got some calls coming in tomorrow and see how much luck I have at getting players to grasp this over the phone.
The problem is I first have to explain and teach them Perfect Aim with a phone lesson.
Then I have to show the problem with the alignment on the cue ball and try to explain that. Might be too much to grasp in one sitting.
All I can do is try.
I'm going to ask the players to post their results on this thread so players can see the comments.

Unless you address the shot exactly the same in your pre shot routine you will be off at times. If you are addressing the ball exactly the same way every time you are probably AA or better. That is why you are inconsistent. No secret really.
No matter what anyone shows you if you dont do it the same every time you will be inconsistent. Takes practice and muscle memory.
Lots of time to master. No such thing as shortcuts.

I was never stupid enough to buy a car from a used car salesman. Johnnyt
I did a couple things to work on this as I am right handed and left eye dominant and had a problem with always having spin on the ball when I tried to do stop shots. I also felt that there are times I simply am not putting the cue ball where I need it on longer shots as I was not hitting it where I thought I was.
The way I see it is that you can go about this 2 ways:
1.) Vision Center
2.) Dominant Eye Center.
You experts feel free to correct me on this as I have worked on both as outlined below so this is just my experience speaking.
Vision Center
First, I placed my cue ball and stick with a laser perfectly center with the tip about an 1/8th or 1/16th away from ball. I then securely mounted them so I can take breaks. I then worked on getting over the stick with the same head position repeatedly from the standing position. I took note of how it looked in each eye independently (closing one then the other) and then I would sit there looking at it with both eyes (because that is how we play) and noting how the tip looked on the cue ball and how it looked in my peripheral vision under my chin/eyes. In essence I was training my brain to recognize my vision center. After a while I started doing it from full stance.
Dominant Eye Center
I ordered some snooker training kit that is a mirror with a line in the center that would sit on the table and you could shoot the ball under it. The first thing I did with this was set it up as above so I had a shot line that was perfectly center under it. I would get down into the shot yet now I would be sure that the line down the center of the mirror went straight down the center of the cue ball and my shaft. I would note where that line went on my face. After a while of doing that I would then work on going into full approach and stance into it and confirm my shot line approach accuracy with the line running down the middle of the mirror and confirmed it by making sure it landed on my face as it did before. Here I was training my dominant eye to get over the stick.
I believe both of these were effective and helped but I also felt these 2 things conflicted with each other slightly. The first thing helped me find my "vision center" as Dr. Dave says. I taught (still teaching) myself based on my eye dominance how the ball and tip looked when I am centered on it. The second method taught me how to get my dominant eye over the stick so that when I looked down the shaft at my aim I was seeing where I was shooting no matter what. If I used what I learned about "center vision", then the line down the center of the mirror would not go down the center of the ball or my shaft nor cross my face at the same spot.
I don't know which method helped me more, but a combination of them has certainly improved my hitting the cue ball center and I have naturally migrated toward the VC method. However, if I am having an off moment I will use the DEC method and will literally close my right eye as a final check to make sure I am there (being I don't use it as much). I do feel doing so helps me get through those off moments and re-calibrates my vision center.
I believe practicing both methods have helped me get the correct shot line before even approaching the cue ball for the shot which I think is one of the most important things. The VC method I believe is more versatile and can be used over a much greater range of shots which is why I believe I "naturally" migrated to it. DEC is probably the most accurate which is why snooker players, whom are considered to be the most accurate shooters in the world, are taught it and use it. However, I don't believe they deal with nearly the amount of what I would call unnatural shoots as billiards players do which prevent us from getting down into our natural comfortable shooting stance.

Your brain needs a baseline. Until you practice a straight stroke and addressing the shot the same EVERYTIME your mind cant adjust your head/ eyes. Video yourself and focus on stroke, body and head stillness through the shot, and addressing the shot the same. Keep studying daves website (should take quite a while)
And be patient it takes time for muscle memory/brain memory to take hold. Rome was not built in a day.
Hard work is the secret, if you feel yourself getting worn out mentally, stop for awhile to keep from bad habits(very hard at first, in a few months of practice you can hadle longer periods before you quit).

Do I need some fancy science articles and top sports coaches supporting this advice, or do you also have google. I guess in the magical land "over my head", everyone becomes a top player from some tips he couldnt possibly get for free in six months.

There are teachers that can help you. You don't need to figure it out on your own.
That does take forever for many. Knowledge is pretty cool.
Just talk to some of the local players that I've worked with. I will help you. Then you would understand the difference.....

I have seen your video, mini lessons, talked to many players who have taken a lesson (paid and unpaid), read dr.daves interpretation, studied eyes and muscle memory, and have found no one that recommended I should take your lessons nor have I seen anyone who did have a significant improvement in their game.
Your claims seem very exaggerated and your behavior towards other players is at very childish to say the least, not the kind of coach im looking for.

I've met Gene in our travels several times. He's as great of a stand up guy as there is.
And he gives away good info for free. Don't know how anyone could ask for more.

Dr Dave's interpretation of Perfect Aim isn't even close to right and I've told him that.
Arturo, Tom, Mike Joe, another Tom, Shawn, and about 10 other players that play in our Wed nite handicap tournament from time to time that would tell you how much it has helped their games. Their ratings went up within 2 to 3 weeks.
These players all jumped up on their ratings with Arturo being the biggest from Master to Pro pro Plus, the highest rating on the chart.
I can give you a list of over 150 players that I have taught in the Twin Cities, I would have them call you if you would like and they would share the experience they had with Perfect Aim.
I get along with everyone at these tournaments and take the time to help many with their games. Of course there are others that don't want help and that's fine.
