Some people never want to quit. Was he up or down at the time?

John has the old school mentality when it come to gambling etiquette. He felt like he was treated unfairly and he voiced his opinion. As far as I could tell, it didn't seem he was out of line.

Not to stir the pot, but I am curious on this....I don’t understand the whole “quit winner” dilemma. The goal is to win..... period. For what my opinion is worth....which is a minimal amount...🤪🤪....it’s gambling. Unless you have agreed in advance, either side should be allowed to walk away whenever they want. Why would a player get “upset”?

Each side had their opportunity to get ahead.... even if only one set was played. If you failed, you failed.

I know that there are gambling purists who will disagree....and that’s okay. I respect their opinions....I just respectfully disagree. Would they give me action....maybe not. But I can promise that if they beat me but I felt good about the matchup and wanted to continue to play and they walked away, I would have zero issue with that.

If two guys match up for $1 or $1,000,000....they started with an equal opportunity to be the winner. If the goal is to be the “winner”, why should one feel obligated to continue to play once they earn that title? If both want to continue, fine. If either wants to quit, fine too.

Some will say nit. But that’s not the case. I am willing and have lost.

So often, the best “action“ players are completely broke and have nothing. Why....because they won’t stop. They won’t book a win and call it a day. Reminds me of my mother in law and casino slots....she refuses to quit ahead. Then she complains because she “lost”.

.

It is implied and agreed in advance !

No one says 1 set only!

They could say that and choose not to.

But, why ?

Because If they lose and like the game they can run it back and try to get even! They don't say one set only because they wanted to preserve that option for themselves.

That is the problem!

Some gamblers are turned off by the 1 barrel BS. They want to play awhile.

Bottom line is treat people like you want to be treated and if you want to play only one set! Then say so in advance so 'BOTH' sides know that they can't run it back....

It's pretty standard to at least give some warning. Before the last set starts a, "This is the last set for me" at least gives the other player a chance to renegotiate before the end.

set the parameters before you start. then let the cry baby moan all he wants.
but in pool if nothing said most think you cant quit while ahead.
Certainly there's a zone where the losing-er will just tie you up for too long?

I've had shouting matches over just rules - no bet, just table rights. This brings to mind the futility of it all. Raising on a disagreement will win you trouble. You can find yourself on death row for being right. Or you can be a tool.

This is exactly why a friend of mine who gambles sets rules before hand. That your going to play for so much for so many sets and after that if either one wants to quit they can. This nonsense of the person down keep playing until he gets even really isn’t gambling. My friend has plenty of money and could easily do that but finds it pointless Because that’s not really gambling.

Unless you make it part of the agreement, say X matches for Y money guaranteed, then quitting after even one match is fair game. Sure, after 1 match is kind of weaksauce, but make the rules before the action or get played. Simple stuff.

Claiming there's unwritten rules is dumb because not everyone may know them. Especially now that people are coming from all over the world for Derby etc. What's common one place may not be elsewhere. There was a thread some years back about Dennis playing a good shortstop 9 ball giving him the breaks and BIH after. So the guy was basically playing the ghost which he knew he was a huge fav against. The guy got ahead in the set early then had a couple of dry breaks and Dennis got even. Knowing he had the worst of it by this point Dennis claimed that he should be able to get out of the game cause they were even at that point.
