Live NOW! Austin Murphy vs. Efren Reyes

I can't believe that people are still saying this stuff.

There were a lot of us who called this exactly how it went down. I wasn't able to see it because I had to pull a double shift yesterday I worked from 8 in the morning until 1145 last night.

All of these people saying that oh you didn't see his real game etc..etc... I'm not dogging Austin's game, but come on... what does it take for people to admit that this kid was just outclassed and had no business this early in his career playing someone like Efren. Those threads on the voting for Austin, don't vote for Austin etc... were reminiscent of the threads talking about the female pros versus the male top pros. There's the way it is and then there's the way that certain people want it to be.

"Oh it's tight pockets, if the pockets were looser, if the cameras weren't there, etc.etc." Sure if you have seven inch pockets, even your average banger has a chance against Efren. The kid is a kid and even if his game CAN be at times at the level necessary to compete with the likes of Efren, Johnny, Alex, Santos, etc... he's not going to be emotionally prepared for the lights cameras spotlight, etc. I'm sure that Austin is capable of playing at that level, but he needs to understand that he needs to grow and develop emotionally or he's going to risk hitting a mental slump before he's even really started.

Ninety five percent of this game is mental state and if you keep throwing him in with the Lions and he keeps getting eaten up, it's going to kill his mental game and he's going to end up where I am, his mid thrities and times off from the game he loves and nothing really to show for it. Maybe that's why I get soo upset hen I see kids being lauded up the way Austin, Chuckie and all of these other kids are ,because I know that the emotional stability and readiness is frgaile at that age and it can be an extreme detriment to their game. I know this from experience.

Oh well, I'm probably talking to deaf ears.

Logic is not allowed on this forum. Please refrain from the use of it. Austin is better than efren and could've easily won had there been no rail shots, long shots, or clusters, on the table and could play every shot with stop engrish.

He certainly deserved the chance to play Efren far more than all the other seasoned players that have played longer than Austin's been alive that really wanted to play Efren as well.

Look I know the kid isn't completely terrible but it's f'in selfish to take that spot to play Efren over everyone else. That's bullsh*t in my opinion. And thats why I'm more against this kid.. A) hes not that good and B) even if he was better there were more deserving opponents.

I didn't realize the "spot" was reserved for "everyone else". The spot went to Austin because that's who won the most votes. Period. You and Jaden are like broken records....

I guess that makes you a genius. Austin clearly didn't bring his game, but I don't remember anybody expecting Austin to win.

Sure if you have seven inch pockets

Who mentioned 7 inch pockets???

Isn't that the purpose of this, to get the experience? Is he required to wait until he's 18 to be allowed to play with A players?

Because your points are completely without merit.

Luck plays a part in our game for sure, you hear it all the time. He or she sure was lucky to win that one. or Wow what a lucky roll they got off that shot. Very seldom do we hear someone deserves that. This whole post about Austin is confusing. First off the Young Man (not kid) was lucky enough to play one of the greatest ever, did he deserve to... Next we have the voting match, again Austin was lucky to be matched up with the greatest again, did he deserve to... Well most think so as he won the voting. Can you imagine if we all got what we deserved....Yikes.. i'm gona continue to be happy for Austin and wish him the best, as many of you have already done.

Well, the only thing I want to know is where are the pictures.

I want pictures. Why, why, why has no one posted up any pictures?

I concur!!!

Kevin will not sell this video. I know he will try to. That is business however you see it. If you all voted for SVB and Reyes, then you have a better fight and better business. Remember, 3 Filipinos have already beaten 3 Americans. You all need to vote for your best to catch up.

YEP, Jaden....

You're absolutely right. As predicted this was a traveshamockery of professional pool, but most of the Austin lovers just don't want to hear it. If they were talking about a certain cue maker they might just be call hangers of some kind:D :D :D .

And as you would imagine, Efren has not made a ball on the break again. He is 0-11 on the breaks...unbelievable.

That's why they didn't send him to Fujariah, UAE last week :D .

Ok....Why would Efren say he likes used chalk?.....anyone...

. . . it sticks well on the tip vs. chalk that's brand new and has a dry and hard feel to it. New chalk appears to have some type of coating that the manufacturer puts on top of it to prevent it from crumbling until it's pulled out of the box. ;)

This about says it all. Good wan! I've known Austin ever since he's a young kid, perhaps 7 or 8 from the local SF Bay Area tourneys he and his older brother participated in. He has a very supportive and loving family which means alot to a kid. An observation I had with Austin is he appears to be very emotional when a match's outcome turns out otherwise. It appears to still be the case according to some of the posts here. IMO, Austin could be bettered emotionally and skillfully, but he needs to be exposed to tougher competition against better players around his age up to maybe 21 y.o.

It is unfortunate that the Philippines is far-off and US visas are hard to come by because there are many in Austin's age there that would be willing to step up and take the challenge. Mika Immonen and Marcus Chamat did and have improved, matured and intensified their games. Efren and all the other Phil. players were honed in this environment where natural talent, skill, perseverance, tenacity and intestinal fortitude must all go together to prevail. Players that are constantly exposed to such tough competitive environment eventually becomes accustomed to the rigors of stiff competition and the handling of defeat. I suppose Mr. J Helfert is a witness to a few of these. And BTW, crying in public from a loss is not well received and becomes the object of ridicule, more oftenly becomes the involuntary 'a.k.a' of a player and should best be done, if at all necessary, in private with no witnesses.

The 2008 10-ball WPC will be upcoming this September. It would be a great exposure and opportunity for Austin if he can be sponsored and make a month trip to play the qualifiers and hopefully the main event. There will be plenty of local action as well where he can have a good gauge of where his game stands against the Philippine and international arena. ;)

i dont believe anyone here has said anything about wanting to vote for a match that would be the best money making business for KT. I voted for Austin bc he came on here and asked politely for support. He is a great player and Cubc, you can get played for as much as you like after your match with OMGWTF. I know I for one would ante up to stake the kid if Austin and his Dad are ok with it. If you think the kid is not that good, well then step right the fek up bc you have action.

It's not about whether or not I think I can beat him. I know I'll have a line of better players ready to beat my brains out after next month. There are a ton of players that can give me the 7 and win.

I already stated why I didnt agree with this matchup and it had nothing to do with MY skill level.
