LIVE STREAM TALK: Predator World 14.1 Tournament

Jim: Usually around 7 p.m. Work in progress. Pretty clear pic and you probably heard me swear when I missed several break shots.

Dennis

By the way, Mika and Reyes coming up soon on the live stream.

I did hear it. That's just fine, you should have heard me last night at home.
Jim

Reyes over Immonen 200 - 89. (The official scorer had Mika at 86; I had it slightly different.)

Efren had runs of 59, 45, 39, and 31. Mika's high run was 42. Mika's first nine innings were the worst stretch I've ever seen him play in a 14.1 game. Mika's eleven innings went as follows:

1. missed a multi-ball combo out of the pack (misread it) off Reyes' opening safety
2. ran 3 balls then slow-rolled an easy shot that didn't reach the pocket
3. made 1 and missed
4. made 1 and missed badly (and scratched)
5. played a poor safety
6. played safe
7. ran 3 and missed an easy shot from fairly close range
8. ran 14 and missed a real thin cut on the 8-ball
9. made 1 and missed a fairly easy, short combination
10. ran 25 but bumped into his break ball and had to play safe
11. ran 42 then missed the break shot

Can someone PLEASE tell the commentators that Archers run yesterday was 84 NOT 98! Its really annoying. He ran 14, played safe, then ran 84.

Thanks for posting all this detail. Even the greats are human.

If anything, this makes me appreciate Efren even more. Wouldn't it be incredible if he takes down a field consisting of a handful of straight pool specialists (e.g., Eckert, Schmidt, Hohmann)?

You are correct (except that it was Tuesday). I believe a message has already been sent to Charlie Williams to that effect.

Yes, it would be something special. But if his form remains like it was against Immonen, that may be asking too much.

But -- Efren did win a big 14.1 event in the past.

AtLarge:

Thank you for this synopsis! Mika doesn't have a good record against Efren (this goes way back), and it could be playing on him. When he's having a bad day (or just a bad match), it's often spectacularly bad.

Other than this very-lackluster performance against Efren, how has he otherwise been doing?

I only saw him on the stream for one other match -- yesterday against Dennis Spears -- and the game was half over when I tuned in. He had nothing more than a 31 in the second half of the game, but it didn't strike me that he was way off form.

In the round-robin portion, however, he lost to both of the other real good players in his group (Dechaine and Wilke), so maybe it has been a poor week for him all around.

That's true. I haven't seen him play much 14.1 at all, so for me it would be a treat.

This is why Efren is the best. He can play every game at the highest caliber.

Efren is up there with the greats for sure. In the only two 14.1 tournaments he'd ever played in -- the 1995 Maine Event and the 2000 US Open 14.1 -- Efren won, and placed third, respectively.

Would love to see him ramp-up his game after a so-so showing against Mika, and really hit the rafters with superior play.

Schmidt topped Hohmann 200 - 164.

This was a strange game, with the two players missing or fouling 7 times on break shots! Neither player ran more than 28 until the last few trips to the table. High runs were 51 for Schmidt and 49 for Hohmann.

still cannot pay!!!!!!!!!!!!

11:38 eastern
searched around and found the screen to pay for daily 14.1 stream.
it would not let me. message something like: promo code unknown,
of course I do not have a promo code.
guess I will guess I will just go work in the yard since I already took the day off from work to watch this.
This just means I will never even consider going to one of these events in person. I'll just have to be content to watch the old stuff on youtube.
sad,

I registered, And the first thing you had to do was to write in your e-mail, then they send you a code, which you use to activate the account. Then you choose a password, after that, you put in credit card information. Then if you have codes to make it cheaper use them, otherwise (like in my case) leave them blank.

tables in use at 14.1?

I thought the carom cafe had Gold Crowns?

Is the TV table played on an Olhauson?

I know DP is trying to raffle/sell the straming table - I am just curious.

The TV table is a Olhausen. That is the table they are selling.

There is a picture in one of the threads of the TV table and the other tables around it are Olhauson's too. Johnnyt
