Local Cue Makers?

Paul Allers lives about 5 minutes from me. Great guy and I am not a collector so I am not going to try to compare his work to anyone else but I do have to say this about him, He backs his work %100 of the time and is just a gentleman to deal with at all times. Never curses, yells, or tries to bullshit you, you get a quality custom cue on time and not overpriced. I don't think he ever made a cue or sold a cue for thousands of dollars, but if I ever get the chance to play with one of those other cues worth thousands, I hope they hit like his.

Here in N. Texas we have more cue makers than players. I play in a weekly tournament on Sat. This last week out of 25 players four of us had made cues!

Growing up in SE CT, I was within an hour or 2 drive from a few notables.

Barry Cameron - Clinton, CT
Mike Webb - N. Providence, RI
Paul Drexler (Pfd Cues) - Marlborough, CT

Those are the one's that are within just an hour drive or so. If I ventured down to south of NYC, there's Tim Scruggs (MD) and Paul Mottey (Philly IIRC). Getting late and can't remember any of the NYC cue makers.

SW is 2 miles away, its a long walk when its 120 degrees outside.

Funny story, I remember the first day I walked in the shop it was my dad's birthday 7-1-86, i felt guilty ordering a cue for myself and not getting my dad anything, I didnt live in Vegas at the time I was passing through town and as a last minute thing I remembered SW cues and went over there, little did I know that 13 years later I would live 2 miles away at that time in 86 i lived about 500 miles away. BTW I waited until may of 87 for that SW-I still have it.

I think i met another cuemaker fr vegas a few yrs ago,is he still there

You beat me to it! Paul may not make the fanciest cue on the planet, but he makes a great playing cue! Pretty darn consistent as far as play goes, also.

About this time a year ago, I gave Paul a really neat looking Prather full splice blank that I had received as a Christmas gift. He really let me go and experiment with some things that I had visualized needed to be done with this blank...and I have to tell you, I just could not have been more delighted with how the cue turned out, and with how it plays.

He just really loves what he does and he really loves the game. He has been an amazing supporter of our area's leagues. I really just cannot say enough good things about him, and am proud to call him my friend! I love hangin' out with him in his shop, and seeing all the cool things he's working on...I only wish I could do it more often.

If your ever looking for a solidly built 60" cue at a very reasonable price...Paul is the guy you want to talk to...period.

My good friends Andy and Vicky Gilbert live twelve miles south. My buddy Dave Ward lives four miles northeast. And I live right in front of this computer screen, but I'm retired.

Showcase Hustler

The top cue is a custom made to my spec's Hustler from Clay. Best $65.00 I have ever spent. Both shafts not a nick on 'em. lol, I never let anybody play with it,always had an extra for ppl to test drive.
The bottom cue. 1993 Gem Cue,from Gary Medlin in Lake Charles. My wife and I designed it,and it is our then Tribute to Gus Szamboti. Gary nailed the Szam hit for me.

There's some history from those days at Showcase.
Clay had been building cues for quite a while, Gale Clark was there, Ernie Martinez.

A lot of great playing cues were produced out of that shop.
I would hang on to that one.

Dave Kikel , the Great ,lives in Pueblo West....

Up here in Iowa there is a guy named Pat Diveney that makes a pretty solid hitting cue.

As stated in my bio, I live in the middle of nowhere...(Vermont) To the best of my knowledge we have no cuemakers anywhere within reasonable distance (> 50 miles ) I live about mid state near Pico and Killington ski resorts. If Y'all know of a maker in my area please let me know....Hell ....there isn't even a place to get cues retipped near here. Maybe some of those makers in the Atlanta area that are tired of nearby competition in the market.....would consider moving???? LOL who am I kidding, depressed economy, minimal target audience, and a better than even chance of freezing to death for an (Alantanite)??? It will never happen:grin:

In So. Calif 3 that I can think of off hand are Ariel Carmelli, Kerry Zylr and the new guy on the block who made my cue Joey (In Cali) Bautista. Oh, how about Tad, Ned Morris, Ed Prewitt and Ernie Gutierrez over at Gina and the list goes on. Yes we are lucky--and apologies to the other 34 I fogot to mention.

There are quite a few in SoCal..
A couple others that popped into my head
Kent Davis
Myron from Riverside
Al Romero
Denali Cues
Corsair -- I think the son still makes cues in socal.

There are many others that make just a handful of cues a year.

Three of the names listed in the SoCal list are within 10-15 mins of me!

In my home state of Pa. I can think of a couple.
Paul Mottey
James White
DZ cues
-R-
Barry Szam

Judd Fuller....

Judd Fuller used to have a shop out of his garage over in Riverside, Ca. I remember going there a couple of times with my buddies... I have a friend who has one of the first sneakies that Judd ever converted...

Oklahoma

Here in Oklahoma City we're less than 100 miles away from several good cuemakers.
Prather
Ingram
Kent Taylor
Pete Petree
Steve Kornel
and a new guy here in the OKC area named Sean Huckleberry. There are a few more in the state that I know I'm forgetting right now.
