FWIW, I think the timing of the apology is a little on the tacky side. I'm sure Mr. Lock was hoping that by lying low, that maybe this whole thing would just blow over. When it didn't after several days, it was only then that he came in this thread with a apology. I would think the apology would have carried a lot more weight if it was done right after the public dressing down for someone simply wanting to ask a few questions about him. Doing it because the thread wouldn't just go away, seems more of a "ok, well I guess I'll have to do it now" kinda thing. Just my opinion anyways.
I could see this kind of thing coming a mile away though. People can make these forums much more then what they are. Having a few people cheering someone on can sometimes go to their head and make them think they're suddenly a different person then who they are in real life.
I think the whole Lock thing is silly to me, but that's just my opinion. I've been playing pool for 25 or so years and I've been helping people and promoting the game with a genuine passion, for most of that time. And I'm just a regular Joe Blow
I don't need to "belong" to anything in order to do that, I have always just wanted to do that.
Now I know that many of the people that were participating in this whole thing, it was just some lighthearted fun. Nothing wrong with that either. Then you also had some that actually believed they were "tendering their application" and if approved, they would take on a new mission and overnight start showing old ladies how to chalk their stick and taking a 10 year kid under their wing.
By some of the participants posts, you could see they suddenly had a new meaning in life, and that the day they "officially" were a "member of the world famous Lock Society", that they had a whole new responsibility and that they had changed their lives accordingly. After starting to read some of those posts, that's when I knew it was getting a bit out of hand.
Of course then, we know what's coming next. Happens every time and is usually the downfall of these kinds of things. It's the TITLE thing:grin: Suddenly we start seeing the titles thrown around... CEO... VICE-CEO (my favorite, lol) Warrant Officers... etc. Whenever the TITLE thing rears it's ugly head, you know there will trouble, just like in real life. I saw some people that upon hearing they were "promoted", you could see in their posts how much the responsibility and power they had just inherited, meant to them. Now that part was just cheesy. hehe
Once again... for the ones that were just taking it for what it should be, some good lighthearted fun, they were on solid ground and still woke up putting their pants on the same way us regular folk do, it was all cool. But you still had that other group of people that were taking it a little too serious.
Now Mr. Lock seems like a nice enough guy, always nice to get to know someone a little better by hearing them talk, so that's all good. I did notice in all the interview parts, that Mr. Lock spent the majority of the time telling us how he just tore everyone a new one that he played. That he just overwhelmed everyone he played everywhere he went. If he went in a bar, he beat everyone in there and took everyones money. If he played anyone, he won all the time and most of the time he so overwhelmed the competition, that he had to give up outrageous spots and still took down the cash every time.
Now I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just pointing out a observation is all. I happen to be a low key guy, that doesn't brag at all and people that do brag a lot, tend to annoy me. We all know people that tend to brag a lot, we all know people that enjoy hearing people that do, we all know people that don't enjoy people that brag. So don't go thinking I'm knocking Mr. Lock, a person can brag a lot and still be a cool guy, it's just not my particular cup of tea.
It's that particular observation that led me to believe things were going to go south quick on this whole thing.
I believe that Mr. Lock is guilty of letting all this go to his head a bit and take this whole thing just a bit too serious. When that happens, there's going to be issues. There's not much worse things that can happen in a forum, then for someone to publicly check your azz and clip your wings for all to see. Nobody likes to be put in their place in front of everyone. When that happens, it can bring out reactions that are not typical of someone to try and save face.
So I'll finish this up with 2 things.. 1 question and 1 word of advice.
Question: When Mr. Lock was copying and pasting all these "tendered applications" he had "approved", he would copy and paste a line that went kind of like this.... "and that you will abide by the rules and regulations of the world famous lock society".
Now my question is this... what are these infamous "rules and regulations" "? I was confused that all these people were agreeing to abide by these rules and regulations, but yet no one knew what exactly they were agreeing to. hehe Funnier still, NOT ONE PERSON ASKED WHAT THEY WERE.
Advice to Mr. Lock: Like I say, you seem like a nice enough guy, you seem like you enjoy pool a lot, you seem like you have a passion for the game, and anyone that has those qualities, is allright in my book right off the bat. Having said that..... I do believe that you would enjoy yourself a little more if you didn't take everything so serious. Now another strong point with you, is that you seem like you can let things roll off you pretty easily. People can hammer you about something and you might reply with a "thanks for your post" comment. lol. So you can let stuff just fly right past ya.. that's a good trait to have in a forum.
But dude, seriously, you need to just remember this is just a pool forum. We discuss pool related topics and there is a wide range of personalities here. You're not going to please everyone and everyone isn't going to please you.
There will be trolls, there will be people that argue all the time and feel the need to convert anyone that doesn't' share their point of view, there's going to be people that feel the need to create new threads about nothing just because of the feeling they get from doing that, you're going to have people that continue to reply to their threads to keep it at the top every day and won't let the damn thing die, you're going to have nice people, gullible people, mean people, knowledgeable people, stupid people, arrogant people.. etc.
If a person can reply with their opinion to you in a respectful manner, even though they may disagree with you, that should be cool. That's what I'm attempting to do here. I may not agree with you and your past methods, but I am just posting my honest opinion, nothing else. My opinion has no more weight to it, then to what each user here has assigned to me by my past posts and opinions and actions.
Anyways the Hungarian dude wanted me to post some long azz rambling post that went on and on, but I'm not going to oblige him. hehe (FAIL?)
I was trying to help you out by not posting and not contributing to keep this thread alive, but your late apology spurred me to share some of my thoughts on it all. Too much of one thing, gets to be annoying to some people and that can lead to it "jumping the shark".
Anyways, good luck Mr. Lock and most of all .. just relax here and take it easy. Let threads die on their own.. no need to constantly "bump them" Enjoy your little society thing you got going, but whatever you do, don't be so heavy handed about everything.
Lastly, don't EVER tell someone that you should be the judge of when they can or cannot post in a public forum.
PS.. for anyone wanting to take the "You're the one that's taking it too serious" route... I've been enjoying myself reading all this stuff in these threads..I'm fascinated by society and how they act, so I just sit back and observe whenever I have time. I could care less though, as it has no effect on my life personally"
