one customer wants a extension on his cue. he wants me to glue the bumper in and make a extension that screws inside the bumper. i will use a 3/8 by 10 pin with a 1/2 inch tenon on the end of the extension that will screw into the 1/2 plus hole i cut into the bumper. my problem is cutting a hole in the bumper that looks clean.

any suggestions as how to cut the hole in the bumper !!!!!!!

Freeze it then machine it.
Use an end mill on a router if possible to clean the walls.

Welkm Chuck.
You can also use a SW style bumper.
It has a 5/8 stem and 7/8 OD flange.
Easily removable and you can also bore a 5/8 ( minus around ten thou ) hole on the extension's bottom to hold the bumper while using the extension.

I went to Bill McDaniel's place in the early 90's to pick up my one-off jump cue when it was ready. Everything was fixed up,but he said he still had to make the bumper.

I saw him take a bumper out of a box and mount it on a mandrel in one of his lathes. He pulls out a Revlon diamond grit nail file and takes it out of the package. He turns the lathe on at 1500-2000 rpm,put safety glasses on,and ground it to rough size using a Dremel sanding drum mounted in a die grinder on his toolpost. He finished it up with that nail file.

The end result looked pretty nice really. Tommy D.

You can buy a bumper that screws into the butt with a 3/4-10 thread and all you need is 5/16-14 rod to screw to the bumper. Pm if you are interested in the source for the bumper.

By any chance would it be easier to get one of those Mezz bumper-X's for a Cuemaker to design with his cue extension? He typically has a 3/8-16 thread in the butt. Any suggestions?
