Am I the only one who looks at their tip when they chalk up? I never see the pros do it. I always look and make sure the chalk is spread evenly with no "large" dots of chalk. Every one else justs rubs the chalk and shoots.

Once you develope a proper chalking technique, you don't have to worry about clumps.

You're not alone. I look at my tip while I chalk up. I swipe my chalk....not the twist and grind technique.

That's exactly what I do. The chalk piece stays even that way. The twist and grind just digs a hole in the chalk.

I also hold my cue at about a 50 degree angle so chalk dust doesn't get all over my shaft and my hands. Some people I play with look like a smurf after about 30 minutes of play.

I've never been one for looking at my tip when chalking, but its very common around these parts. You get people that go about chalking like they're performing surgery. Inspecting every part of the tip to check its got the same amount of chalk as the rest...makes me laugh! Then you get the swivellers, who hold their cue across their body and swivel the chalk at arms length so they don't cover themselves. Waste of chalk.

I'm more of a look at the OB, swipe across the tip just the once whilst its upright, place it in the pocket and step into the shot. Doesn't give me much time to second guess myself then.

I never see the pros go to work.

I never see the pros have money.

I never see the pros own their own home.

I never see the pros own a new car.

I never see the pros have a wife & family they take care of.

I never see the pros with a retirement fund or health insurance.

Don't worry about what the so-called pros do, they don't know anything.

Very, very seldom do I look while chalking. If I misscue it's my stroke.

Normally I use the swipe method. I typically don't look. Although I do chalk while looking before each game rather than each shot. I also look while chalking my break cue before each game.

I don't care how you do it. Just don't do it like Mike Dechaine. World class talent. C- chalker.

THE BEST POST ON AZ IN A LONG TIME!

Rep coming your way for telling it like it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My attention to the chalk needs of the tip, depend on the shot being executed, the type of tip I'm currently using, and of course the age of the tip/leather.... since I only play 5-6hrs a week these days. Some shots (depending on conditions or when was the last time I prepped my tip surface?) will require, scuffing, prikking, shaping, burnishing or ?....to feel comfortable with my current shot choice and needs, there's never a simple answer until you've run the gamut.

That post should never be allowed on a pool forum........ever......,even if it is the truth. Unless you just want to just hear from bangers and know-it alls, that can't run a rack of 9 ball or 8 ball on a bar table. But that's pool and it will stay in the gutters,oh well...John B.

So true. No shortage of either of those two types around here. Sad. Glad you post though John.

What does this have to do with chalking a tip???

John is a champion pool player. Some people have no class. Non players trying to tell real players how to live makes me laugh.
