best bang for the buck???
tips to avoid your mistakes???
Best bang for your buck? Don't buy a new pool table. Use craigslist to find the cheapest Gold Crown. The best pool table is either the Gold Crown or the Diamond Pro am. If it's one thing I've noticed that people will recommend a used over new just because it's a lot less. However I don't like buying used stuff, so I went new.
Mistakes?
Don't buy a pool table from Sears.
Other notes:
It's funny you hear people name check the GC and the pro am. But how often do you hear people recommend anything else? It seems like you have the pro am and GC, and after that it doesn't really matter.
I have a question also, after the GC and the Pro am, whats the next best pool table.
What do people not like about Olhausen? They seem to make very nice tables.
Quite a few people here on AZB have complained about the pocket cut and the corner pockets rejecting balls (you should be able to do a search for this). I can not comment on their top line tables, but I can certainly vote against their furniture line. The Silver Cue here in Lexington has Olhausen 9' and 8' "furniture" tables as their mainstay, and I avoid that pool room at all costs.
I can verify that these tables absolutely reject well struck balls. Multiple times, I have hit a shot with firm draw on those tables into the DEAD CENTER of both the corner and side pockets and the ball has rebounded straight back off of the back of the pocket and returned to the center of the table. That should absolutely not happen.
