Looking for an Instructor in CA

A good friend of mine lives in the Antelope/Roseville/Citrus Heights area (95843) - just outside of Sacramento and is looking for a pool instructor.

She's a complete beginner, although she doesn't play bad - in my opinion. There's a pool hall that's pretty close to her called "Corner Pocket" in case any of you are familiar with the area / that room.

She doesn't have a lot of money - so hourly rate is somewhat of a concern. What's most important to her is whoever gives her lessons can't hit on her or flirt--- this needs to be "business-only" as she's sincerely serious about learning how to play.

If there are any instructors in the local area who can help her and keep it affordable - let me know. If any of you are in the area and play a decent speed who can help her, let me know that as well.

She's one of my very best friends so it's important to me that she's in good hands and not taken advantage of (because she's pool-naive if you know what I mean).

Bart Mahoney came right to mind, as he is a poster on here under the name of BankerBurt. Not sure if he is on here that much, but you might send him a message. He used to teach pool as an actual class at Hardtimes Billiards in Citrus Heights. Also, tell her to go to Hardtimes this weekend, and she can see the best players playing there for the first weekend of the month tournament.
 
Mark Thomas is a certified BCA instructor and can give you the lessons she is looking for @ Hard Times. His rates are really good. Pm for contact details.
 
Bart Mahoney also came to my mind right away. He teaches a billiards high school class, has a lot of other instructor experience, and plays pretty sporty. More info:

I would also suggest your friend visit the Diamond Billiards Sunday night double elimination 8 ball tournament at 7:30 pm on Sunday nights in Rancho Cordova just a couple of miles from your friend. The tournament director, Mark, enjoys taking students under his wing and is always giving free mini lessons to those that show a desire to learn. I am not sure what he charges for formal lessons but I know they are on the more inexpensive side. The tournament players themselves are also extra friendly at this location and there are almost always a couple of other beginner to intermediate female players in attendence so she would probably feel the most comfortable here at first.

I have only knowledge of Ted Ito an older gentleman. He plays out of Sac off fruitridge i believe. Dave...I would heartily recommend Tom Seymour, ph. #415-577-1520 www.beginnersmindpool.com. He lives, and teaches (out of Family Billiards), in the Bay Area, but also does lessons in Modesto and Sactown too! He's a top notch BCA/SPF instructor, a BCA Master player, an excellent communicator, and he would definitely be "all business", dealing with your friend. His rates are also reasonable!

Bart Mahoney and Ted Ito are good choices...

Ted videotapes your first lesson and helps you see what you're doing, and how you are improving. Bart, Ted, and Jim Fabionar can all be reached through the Jointed Cue.

I know that Mark Thomas at Diamond does teach several students. I wouldn't be able to take a lesson with him, but my best friend would- it's genuinely a conversational style/ personality thing.

It's really a matter of having a good dialogue and relationship between teacher and student. She should probably make a point of meeting each one and seeing how SHE gets along with them.

i took lessons from an older guy named Jerry in san diego. he was a nice guy but our personalities were so different that the time we spent together at the table almost seemed awkward.

Blah Blah has a point. she should make it a point to meet her posable instructors to see which she would get along with easier.

PM Bob Jewett. He is involved in the Billiard Academy and would be able to steer her to a number of other choices I would think.
