I love 'em all!!! They help refuel me. They get my blood pumping again!!!

And they help me to realize that not only are Black Boars WAAAAYYYY overpriced, but that I have every right to express how much I dislike them, even if it contradicts your precious little opinion.

I have only one question...

Masterclass, you claim to be a cue maker, yes?

You have a picture, yes?

What else do you need? You need to see the pieces separated? You want the program? You need someone to make it for you?

Great cuemakers innovate. When they do copy, they figure it out and make what they are looking at. This "crown" has also been done by Rubino. Maybe cueman needs to add a few chapters to his manuals.. How to make bridged veneers, How to make a Crown butt cap, and How to make cues by making no mistakes, we'll layout every design known, just so you can skate on through.

WOW, you are harsh. Funny, though :)

I agree. Don't copy. It's not cool. Copying a dead cuemaker or past designs that are now unavailable is one thing, but copying a living cuemaker's signature & original design is kinda uncool. I know lots of folks do it & it's the nature of the beast, but it's a lot more prestigeous & respectable when you can create your own original signature design. Look at all the SW design copies, even by high teir builders, and still none are as prestigeous as the true SW. Just my opinion. I don't really care. I just know how i'd feel if people began spinning off my designs. And yes, there's only one BB & this design in question is a signature of his. Even if others do it, it's always going to referred to as the BB crown.

So this would be considered a true spliced butterfly, not inlaid, correct?

There are a couple of different ways this could be done. If you have a good cnc machine, or are a competent machinist, you can make the two pieces and put them together like a puzzle. I believe I had shown the Rubino style in a pic about a year ago. There is a way to make a "faux" crown. In an ebony butt sleeve put the 3/4 or 1" ivory slug on the bottom. You can then inlay the ebony "oval" pieces to form the lower portion and it would create 1/2 of the spike. Eventually though those pieces would show through, as the finish thinned, or even expansion/contraction.

Eric,
My point, was ok, if you want to make it, then figure it out. I know JMW didn't call Tony up and ask for drawings. He made his own version, through trial and error.

I never misunderstood your point. It was clear. I just added my own thoughts in my second paragraph, a totally different point. My first paragraph was laughing at your choice of words used to make your point, as I thought it was humorous.

Eric,
I gotcha.. and I respect your opinion, no matter how wrong it is. lol :D Yes I was being a little sarcastic and using dark humor to make my point. I just found the point of the first post funny.

I don't think you are mistaken. I too remembered seeing more then one of James White cues with that design. But i could not find a picture of it.

I dare not even think about asking BB. I might need to take up a mortgage before i do!
Richard Black did 2 for me and were full size butcaps with veneer

Ermm.........

Actually i see some 4 -5 questions here instead of one. I will attempt to answer them if i could but not sure what is the point.

No.
Me a cue maker? Where on earth did you get that???? The closest i got to doing anything on a cue was changing a cue tip. And thats on a snooker cue. I dun even wanna try changing tip on pool cue in case i damage the ferrule.

No.
I have more then one picture. But whats your point? I wanna see more enjoy the beauty and design of it. Maybe have a good idea before getting someone make one for me. (yes. I do need someone to make it for me.)

The last bit i will just ignore because it just sounds like someone who either got out the side of the bed, having a bad day or have something really big up the ass and is really feeling uncomfortable about it and wants to let it out. Quite frankly, i really cannot make any sense of it. What are you SAYING!!!!!

You are certain it was Richard Black? I remember vaguely also that there was veneers within the crown. But i thought that was a Jame White. Can i find pictures of them in your website?

Hello everyone

I am looking to make a cue with a Crown buttcap like this:

CrownButtcap.jpg

I would appreciate if you can let me see some of your cue with this design as well as if you can also tell me the maker as i have yet to find one.

Most of the cuemaker i have asked does not do it. I know blackboar does but its a little way out of my budget.

Thanks a bunch!

I will second Richard and Rick Phillippi at Phillippi Custom Cues, Pasadena, MD. I had a high end "crown" cue made by them. Excellent craftsmanship and playability.

One of the best playing cues I've had was a Phillippi.
