Looking for reviews on "The 8-Ball Handbook" and "The 8-Ball Bible"

As the title says....

I have most other books of note, so please limit discussion to these two books.

Also, please refrain from the typical "why 8-ball" rants. Remember, to each their own. ;)

I have gone through the search function, but didn't really find much about these two specifically.

Thank you in advance.

8 ball bible is worth its weight even though the strategy is based on the mudball. There is so much information regarding pattern play and ducking it will take you a long time to learn. If you are learning to play jam up eight ball on the barbox this is your book. Like any other pool book you have to work with it, setting this patterns up and running them out yourself to engrain it in your mind. I have been working with this book for 4 months and i still havent mastered all the shots in this book. Eightball is the game of choice where I play, I love the game. Im glad this book hasn't gotten around. I just smile to myself when they run down to the last ball with no shot.

The 8 Ball Bible has a lot of valuable info.

Haven't read the other one

The 8 Ball Bible is probably one of the very best books I have ever read on passing along very solid pattern play, theory for ball selection, breaking up clusters, basically everything you really need to understand to break through that level of playing solid 8 ball. I have not read the other book, but I loan the bible out to all above average players on my team.

I came up in the game in the NW, Seattle/Portland area, and a lot of strong barbox players come from that region. All of the pertinent points of barbox eight ball are covered thoroughly, and even a few things that even some good players don't think to do, such as playing position to 2-and-3 rail bank a ball (while playing a safety) and break out a trouble spot.

The author is thinking on a level beyond that I saw from some VERY strong 8 ball players.

the 8-ball bible is in my top 5 pieces of instructional material.

I own over 100 pool banks and rank this near the top. I've read all of them cover to cover at least once.

The 8-ball bible, banking with the beard and the great break shot / racking secrets are my favorites.

I recently looked through a bunch of books for safety play strategies, and the Eight Ball Bible (Givens) had by far the best section on that. I think most of the ideas in that section don't depend on the big ball.

I agree. For strategy, 8-Ball Bible is the best I have read (or part-read. I have not finished going through it yet - there is a lot of food for thought in this book). And not just applicable to the bar box.

I have not read the Handbook.

There doesn't seem to be much out there that covers 8-ball strategy in any depth, although Capelle's Play Your Best 8-ball - also very good - comes to mind. Perhaps there are other gems that forum members know about (but I don't want to hijack this thread).

Are you asking about "The 8-Ball Handbook for Winners" by Larry Schwartz?

If so, I have it and recommend it highly. Totally changed how I play 8 ball.

If you read and put into practice "The 8-Ball Bible", you won't ever need another book on 8-ball...esp bar box. Johnnyt
