Looking to have cue made

Dennis Searing, Ed Prewitt and Joel Hercek...........Oh, that's right...... you wanted a cue
in less than a decade......forget those cue-makers.

All kidding aside...........I recommend you go with Bob Owen, Leon Sly or Robert Harris.
All three are excellent cue-makers, honest & sincere and very affordable high quality cues.

You can't go wrong with a Gilbert. Andy makes an awesome cue.

Even his Jump/Break cues are great players. They are good all around cues, not just a Jump/Break.

I have owned more Gilberts than any other maker. Each time I sold or traded one, I regretted it.

I would suggest Troy Downey. He is an established yet underrated cue maker, and builds a nice playing cue. Gabe Owen was playing with a Downey when he won the U.S. Open, if that tells you anything.

No he was playing with a Shurtz that I built him. When he won the Derby City One Pocket He was playing with a Downey with a shaft that was from me.

Bob Owen

By the way thanks for that shaft job last week bob, the shaft plays a ton better now with that taper.

I am looking to have a cue made. I was wondering if you guys could steer me in a direction of a decent cuemaker. Not looking to have a milllion dollar masterpiece made. Possible an up and coming cue maker. Thanks Jason

I am looking to have a cue made with 8 points. 4 high 4 low with some veneers. I am looking to get back into playing again. I quit playing many years ago. I started to get back in 1999 and ordered a cue form a cuemaker in florida. This situation turned out horrible and had to fight to get my money back, hoping this time will turn out better. Thanks

Just to add some more info. I am looking for a decent up and coming cuemaker, not really the guys that have a 5 year waiting list and want 5000.00 dollars. Thanks guys. I will try to see if I can contact dig dug, and a couple others that were suggested.

I would recommend jake hausley here on the forum

I stand corrected, though he was sponsored by muellers and won a major tourney with a Downey. You (Bob Owen) make very nice cues as well, no disrespect intended. As I recall, he kept one of the cues after losing the sponsorship because he liked it so much. Merely offering suggestions to the op.

See Josh Treadway in St. Louis. He works with Jim Buss. Josh has a web site. He makes real nice cues. He isn't cheap but his work is perfect. He can build about anything you would like. QB Custom cues also builds real nice cues probably as good as anybody out there. They could give you anything you want also. They are in Pacific Missouri and they have a website also. I have one of their cues and it is a dynamite player. Scott "the freezer" Frost is a World Champion and he is playing with one of their cues. You can't go wrong with either cue maker. Hope this helps you.

Find a cuemaker local to you that has a good reputation. You will learn a lot about cues, and what works for you, working with a local cuemaker.
btw reverse points are uuuggly.

Do yourself a favor and contact Bob Owen @ Shurtz Custom Cues. He's not only friendly and extremely
customer oriented. He's also one hell of talented cue-maker and is a truly class act. He strives to make you happy.
His prices are amazingly affordable and he's willing to undertake custom builds like you want done.

For what you are asking, stylistically, price point, and level of workmanship. I would recommend Ariel Carmeli at the top of the list by a fair margin. Not affiliated with him at all or a big fan boy or anything, just the right guy for the job at hand. Some of the others on this list I've ordered cues from in the past and cannot recommend based on differences in business practices, although had it not been for that would fit the bill as well.

I 100% agree

hi cant go wrong with paul Drexler or pete Tonkin bolth make great playing cues and retain there value but the way a cue playes and feels shoud be the way u buy a cue a lot of great guys out there and all can bild u a cue based on how much u have to spend good luck.

Don't think I have seen anyone mention Shawn Putnam on here, but he makes a heck of a cue. I just had him add some custom inlays to my Schon cue and they were incredible. Sent pictures every step of the way and even a video of some of the work happening.

My next cue is going to be Dzuricky. He`s website is the best and his pricing seems more than fair.

Agree with you. Great work, Awesome Cues, Very nice and clear pics.
Dz will be my next custom cue if possible.

You may want to try Ariel Carmeli in Southern California, or as another up and coming cue maker Carlos Coll (check his work out of Facebook).
