Ok Jay

My offer still goes Danny! I would want to see the full, unedited run on a DVD. There must be continuity from rack to rack, if you know what I mean.

I'll see if I can line you up any Bank Pool games. I think I know a couple of guys who might play you. If you come this way, I will pay for your travel and stake you to play. No cheap games though!

OK Jay, I just don't like to play banks on real tight equipment (as I prefer in One Pocket) - 'I have cue' and am not too afraid to travel - but I prefer the bird in the sky now uh daiys'.

My match with John was 15 years in the making, you are not even close.

And if for some reason that I can't even begin to imagine at the moment, we were to play for more than a couple of bucks, it would never (not ever) be on your home table.

What part of "neutral court" did you not understand?

A very nice offer which brought out some bad behaviour in a few people, I wish I was able to come and buy you dinner for a nice day of pool.

lol, a very nice offer involving a $10,000 bet.

Goferit, so that you can tell us all afterwards how "nice" an offer it was.

Lou, I usually stay out of posting on threats that get slightly out of hand such as this one has.
I think Jay made and offer for practice partners and nowhere did I get the impression that he was interested in making a high wager game other than something small or even just for dinner.

I thought it was unnecessary for you to derail what his intentions were. Jay is a good person and a good friend of mine and that's why I felt that it was important for me to say this. He offered to play you on a neutral court. I would have offered my table for that match. I have a beautiful playing Centennial that Jay has never seen. There are many other tables that would have came available in the Los Angeles area.

Yes, Frank, I understand you have a very nice setup at your house, otherwise known around the greater LA area as “The Barber Shop,” though nowadays you just “take a little off” your customer’s wallets than their hair.

I guess I was just thinking in terms of Jay’s recent offer to play me.

You talk a lot of sh-t and you don't know crap! My name is Jay Helfert and if you ever have the balls to gamble with me I'm gonna bust your ass! How does that sound? You beat a case maker out of 10K and now you think your sh-t doesn't stink. How about trying a 73 year old man who only plays pool once a year? I'll even give you bus fare back home after I bust you!

Just another nice invitation I guess :-) I suppose there’s also the issue of the time a few years back (link provided further up this thread) that I took Jay up on one of his nice invitations, drove out to Redondo Beach and he wouldn’t answer his phone.

Anyway you’re right, I shouldn’t have derailed his nice invitation. Apologies all around and good luck to anyone taking him up on his offer.

I'm starting to get in stroke and need some practice partners. I'm willing to play almost any game (prefer One Pocket or Banks) just for fun (lunch or dinner) or for cheap stakes. Must come to my house in the Torrance area. I have a very nice Diamond Pro-Am with tight pockets, suitable for One Pocket. I'm not looking to match up, since I don't really know how anyone plays and I'm not playing that great currently. I'd call myself a low B player. I'm willing to play anyone even!

I just need practice partners. There's a limit to how much you can progress playing by yourself. My e-mail is jayhelfert@yahoo.com.

P.S. Dennis Orcullo will be here all next week and if you'd like a lesson hit me up and we can arrange it.
I'm not sure what you thought was out of line with that?

No, you’re right — it’s a nice offer. You should head on out to Redondo Beach and take advantage of it. Jay is obviously a great guy. Maybe you can hit The Barber Shop too. I’ve heard Frank has a very nice man cave. A few years ago I tried to meet up with him while I was in LA to play some but it didn’t work out.

Honestly I don't know what you are so worried about. I barely play any One Pocket but the last time I was at Jay's he inveigled me into a game anyway. Not only did he insist we play on his clearly rigged home table (Some cheap, non-Brunswick knock-off that didn't even have a proper ball box and had more weird curves on it than a roller coaster), he even tried to run a crude "Two Brothers and a Stranger" hustle on me by forcing me to play scotch doubles with a friend of his who "just happened" to be hanging out there too.

Despite all this I still managed to win the game. Here's a picture from that day - My partner was the young man with the big grin on the left trying to console a clearly desolate Jay :-)

That same young man is here right now, resting up for next week in Las Vegas. Not to worry though. He is keeping busy playing poker every day. He has become a dreaded Omaholic!

Jay,

If I wasn't 3000 miles away I'd love to take you up on both offers. I'm not much of a one pocket player, maybe only played 50 racks or so in my life. But I love the game, and always enjoy myself playing it.

I would think people in your area would be all over this!

I do have several games lined up, thanks!

Jay Boy, come up to Ventura, your old stomping grounds and we'll play for our 1966 bet of $20 per game. Afterwords winner pays for dinner. My customers would love to see two old geezers ramming balls into the rails instead of the pockets.
