Losing weight

Hi guys,Quick question.Hopefully someone will be able to give me

a quick answer. I have found a cue I like, problem is,it's too heavy for my

liking and it has no weight bolt. Wood= Curly Koa widow with a little ivory.

I'd like to know how it could be lightened by 1 oz or possibly more.

If anyone cares to give me a quote on doing that work, changing joint pin from

3/8x10 brass to just a regular 3/8x10 wood to wood and matching the ring work

from a black collared predator. Please let me know via pm.

I wouldn't mind if someone could tell how the cue would be made lighter. Coring I

would guess but I certainly am not a cuemaker.

Thanks for any help or advice

You probably will not be able to reduce the weight a full oz by coring.

You can reduce the weight by 3/4 oz by changing to a G10 pin instead of metal...

Hmmm,I wonder if that would really mess up my balance point?

Thanks for your response

Instead of hacking-up a size-10 shoe to fit a size 8-foot,
why not just buy the correct size shoe/cue in the beginning ?
There's no additional cost and it fits, right out of the box.

On the other hand, 'a player will adapt' (or find a shoe that fits).
What you are requesting is to destroy the intent of the builder.
If he wanted to build to your specs, he could/would have.
This cue wasn't built for you. Find one that is.

No doubt that's probably sound advice but how about instead of comparing to a shoe

since we are just comparing anyway. Let's say you buy a house and you just don't like

something about it.Maybe the bathroom is too small and you would like for it

to be a bit larger. Would you destroy the builders

intent, because he really didn't build the house for you after all. Or would you

just make the room the size you want it and say screw the builder.

I never requested to destroy the intent of the f'ing builder, I simply asked a

question. Jesus christ do people always have to act out.

I know I can have the cue built for me. I also am pretty sure this cue can be

made to weigh less. I'm just tossin a thought around and you act like I'm

trying to ruin the cue makers intentions of his build.

Well, aren't you ???

Don't be so sensitive. Removing a full ounce from a cue would be difficult and probably not worth your time. An ounce of saw dust is a lot of wood to take off.

why is this cue so heavy? Koa is very light wood. Just wondering what lurks within that you might run head long into if drilling it.

Dont listen to these people. Just put a alum joint screw in and get a 1" bit. Drill 4" out of the back and weigh it, and if its still too heavy go 1" at a time until you have the right weight. After 11" you might want to step down to a 3/4" bit. Should hit just under a ton>

Here is the thing and I mean no offence to you at all. What you have found is a Cue you don't like as you don't like the way it is for you. You are searching for a Cue Maker to make a Hybrid out of it. Due to many factors you nor the Cue Maker will not know until complete if it will give you the hit you want, balance point you want etc and you will probably get upset at having to pay a lot of money and still not have what you need.

You mention it has a little inlayed Ivory. Pick out the things you do like and seek out a cue that best looks the way you want and hits the way you want. After finding it pick out inlay patterns you like and send it to a qualified Cue Maker to put the inlays in. Keep the shaft that comes with it (as that was part of the hit you liked) and have the Cue Maker modify the Predetor Shaft to the cue. Now if for some reason the Pred Shaft took away from the hit you liked you still have the shaft that did and a great breaking shaft.

I like a great looking cue as well but I learned something many years ago. After I do my approuch, have my bridge on the felt and looking down towards the object ball I never saw the butt end of the cue. Did the ball go? Did the cue ball continue to travel to where I wanted it to?

I wish you the world of luck on your project but here are far better ways to skin a cat.

First thing is first. How you 100% sure there is no weight bolt? Set screw weight bolts are sometimes installed deep into the butt. Is there no cavity in the cue at all when you remove the bumper?

A 1 inch hole in the butt will only leave a 1/8 inch wall.............. the butt cap and butt sleeve might fall off............

You might destroy the cue

I grew up in Ohio County, KY but live in MD now. What you are asking can certainly be done. PM me a picture of the cue and we'll discuss it. It'll be good hear some local accents again even if we don't do any business.

(Needs to lose weight too)
