Lost to a Girl

I'm an APA SL7. and a female. And i can't stand sandbagging, Here where I live it's a big thing. But if she isnt playing to her full potentional rather it be an off night or not. the system the APA uses works if you keep accurate innings and def. shots. complaining about it will do you no good. It will just piss you off more and more you think about it. Let it go and move on. And you being a SL6 and that crap bother you. maybe you need to work on your head game a more. just remember you are NOT playing the person you ARE PLAYING THE TABLE. :o

tap, tap, tap...Tina! Did you qualify to go to Vegas for the Singles Nationals next week? Say hi to Jack!

To post your abject failure in a match on this board and open yourself to ridicule – Well, you must be a masochist. Which probably explains why you let a girl beat you:D

There's a 13yr old girl in Tullahoma TN that's going to be hard to beat in the years to come.

It's not about the number of push-ups but more about DOING push-ups in the middle of a crowded poolroom. Trust me, it's worth more than $50 sets.

Hehe. That is true; my post was meant in good fun, so I hope you laughed. If you want to play for the embarrassment factor, may I suggest a race to 3, loser does the funky chicken, and who ever is behind at the end has to hold their arms in the air, bow and say, "the great one is here; I'm not worthy" next time you meet at the crowded poolhall? :D

That'd be no good for me. If I attempted 20 push-ups it'd end up as a "Can someone help me up?":o

Cuebacca, that funky chicken idea sounds good. I'd pay to see that!!

You got action, sir. Funky Chicken it is.

You build houses...you would be Jeff the Housebuilder.
You build boats...you would be Jeff the Boatbuilder
You lose to a woman...Well I'm sure your pard's that were standing there will come up with an appropriate monicker.:)

Stop crying!! :) There's nothing wrong with being beaten by a female, and who says that she runs two packs all the time? Shake hands, congratulate the opponent on her play, and be done with it.

BTW: By the way, playing well is how 4's get to be 5's and above.

Lost in a college tournament to a girl back in 1971. 14.1 to 120. She beat me like a drum, 120 - 32. Used a nice Huebler. Found the same stick on ebay recently and sent it to Proficient for a refinish (it is pictured on their site now). After the match I did as described above. Suggest you do the same. BTW - I ended up marrying her. She's going to love that cue!

Oh man, you just lost your right to drink beer, No sir it's wine coolers for you from now on and maybe the occasional pina colada. Also you need to start carrying your cues in a Hello Kitty case:D

I have no idea, manlaw dictates that I may not publicly partake of any beverage that isn't beer or cheap warm whiskey:D :D

Not Sandbagging

Note that you don't sandbag in the APA by running racks! It is mostly inning-based, and, to sandbag, you would need to run up your innings.

It is possible that she might have sandbagged when she played lower-ranked players, then played all out against you (the original poster). But, like someone else mentioned, it's probably more likely that she is new. At least here in the Portland, OR area, women start out as SL2s, so it would probably take a while for some playing as well as a SL6 to make it to the proper level...

I've agreed with this statement for years, but, after reading "Pleasures of Small Motions" I'm not so sure. It's easy to say, especially when going against someone you think you're supposed to beat, but a bit different against someone who you know, or at least think, plays better than you. I remember reading in "McGoorty" about Danny playing a regional champion or some such, and beating the guy 'til he found out who he was. Then he couldn't find the end rail. Joe Hall, I think it was.

Haha, wouldn't that be great to see a couple of well known pro's play for such stakes? I gotta give BazookaJoe credit though, as he suggested a chicken dance as a punishment for missing with ball in hand. :D

D'oh, me and my big mouth. Now I'm going to have to practice in case I ever meet you. Practice my chicken moves, that is. :)

Exactly. Sandbagging is the act of masking your true speed, not demonstrating it.

I've played APA for about five years, been to many money tournaments and a city qualifier, and back to back break and runs is SL6 territory.

I have lost to a few women. I do not feel particularly bad becuase they were of the opposite sex, I just felt bad that I lost.

Hsin Huang used to live in vancouver and had pretty much beaten all the top men here.:D

Before Hsin, we had Kyoko Sone, and Jennifer Chen, they beat a lot of local guys, before they moved away.:D

It is interesting to note that most guys wanted a hug from these girls after they lost.:D

APA handicapping

Everyone has been correct to say that it is probably # of matches she has played and how she played before. People do have good, no great days, and you were just the victim of a player having one, or new to the league, and not yet set at a true handicap. I didn't lose to a girl, but I have a great handicap story.
I had been out of APA for 7 years (left as a 7), moved to a new town that only had APA, and started as a new player again. I lost the first night as a SL4, because I forgot to mark my 8 ball pocket. Where I used to play, that was not a heavily followed rule, a gentlemen's point or acknowledgement was good enough. So I lost and found myself a SL2 the next week. My captain only put me against SL2 or SL3, because he did not respect my skill. I stayed a SL 2 for 9 weeks with 9 straight wins, but not the lowest of innings because of table set-up, etc. - not sandbagging. After my 10 weeks, I moved to a SL4 and stayed there for 8 more weeks - still with no losses. After 2 sessions, I moved up to a SL6, and have stayed there over the last 2 sessions - even though I have skull dragged 5 - SL7's and 12 - SL6's. I have lost about 6 total matches since I joined again, and do not know if I will ever see a SL7 as my ranking again. Wouldn't mind being a SL7, but helps the team with me as a SL6 for handicaps. Not trying to stay a SL6, just seem to be lucky.

So I ask, how accurate is this Handicap system? Played BCA for most my life, and like it much better.

Michael

BTW, quiting APA this session, and plan on finding something else. Maybe start a BCA league.

I think another good one is "Just shoot what the table will give you." Johnnyt

The first discrepancy in your post is that as a returning player, your records are on file. Thus unless you concealed yourself, you would return as a skill level 7, immediately. Was even unethical of you to play as a new skill level 4, when you knew you were a 7...

Feel free to pursue other options. The pool community is strengthened by players who are willing to go whereever works best for them. And the pool community is weakened by unnecessary bickering and arguing. So no need to engage in petty arguing.

Can't we all just get along...
