Low deflecting custom cues

kevin varney 100% if you are looking for a lights out performance cue in a plain jane with a ld shaft. kevin makes his own ld shafts .
i got one of kevin s cues with the solid maple shafts.
his cues play good.......................................................................
there is a review of his shafts in cue review i think

most cue makers will make you a cue with the shaft of you choice.
if anyone wants to contact kevin vaney he is on my friends list.

I'll second that!! Kevin's shafts play like I always thought laminated LD shafts were supposed to play but didn't.

I have two that I think are great:

- Black Boar with the ferrule-less shaft
- Gulyassy with SPTX shaft

The best regular ld-shafts (non-laminated, with great wood quality!) i saw and played til now were built by Silvio Zuglec from Austria (aka Gloria Cues) and Markus Kuhn from Cologne (makes the buisness for DoubleDaveCues).
Great solid feeling like regular- but with really good ld results.
Predator sure has better LD-- but the hit is just great with those regular LD shafts.

I have never played one, but Ronnie from QuePerfect makes the claim that his solid, LD shafts have been objectively tested. According to these tests, his most LD shaft is about 3 and a half times less deflecting than Predators. He has shafts with various degrees of deflection. He also has shafts with 48-52 growth rings per inch. His really good shafts are expensive though. They run about 500-650 usd.

agree Cali,

furthermore: i tested many many ld-shafts over a longer time. but not one regular shaft with a diameter 12.5 to 12.75 has a chance to reach the results of pure ld shafts.
i don t know how the shafts from queperfect are constructed- but with the knowledge and expirience i have til now, it s usualy nearly impossible.
If someone wanna tell me, that he gets the same restuls or better results with a regular shaft like 314² or z² -- then he has to show this. Til then i say impossible.

Ratta,
I've played with predator shafts and there is no comparison between them and my Varney shafts. The Varneys give the preds the 5 out!

Lambros makes an LD shaft as well. I've heard that the hit is solid but hot the monster that his normal shafts are. Not sure about the deflection characteristics.

like the carrigan once said

and there can be only one!!!

that would be a lambros ultra shaft. LD, radial consistency, and great feel to boot. spins the ball with ease if you have a decent stroke.

mike webb makes a regular and low deflection shaft
cannot say how it compares to predator

Which custom cue makers make their own LD shafts, and how does the deflection compare to Predators etc?

az's own bdcues makes a hell of a low deflection shaft. he was nice enough to let me try one out and in the same week that i received a 1st gen predator shaft. i'll tell you this the shaft deflects about the same as the original 314 does but it's a hair stiffer and doesn't feel dead. his shaft has a very crisp feel to it. it might be the micarta ferrule that he added on to his shaft instead of the plastic that predator uses. the shaft has that nice resonant "tonk" sound that i like in cues. LD with lots of feel and stiff but not overly stiff. isntead of the 10 splices that predators use he uses 6. you can see the lamination but unlike some shafts you can't see (i didn't see) any glue lines

the guy makes a shaft that out preforms predator shafts, feels better, is made better, and is made right here in the USA by an american who takes pride in his work. oh yeah they cost less than the imported 314 shafts. he even says he'll customize the shaft if you want something slightly different (bigger/smaller tip different length ferrule)

Mike Durbin makes fine, custom fitted cues and offers a low deflection shaft if you choose. His low deflection shaft caused no more squirt than my Predator or OB shafts; and had a great hit.

Pushout: i had the ferrulles shaft also (next to 8 other shafts) in this test-time. and in small distances between 1-2,5 feet almost similar- but as soon you have a longer distance, the ferruless shaft had far more deflection.
