Lucasi pronounciation. Been saying it wrong for years.

For years, I have been pronouncing Lucasi as Lew-cay-see. So yesterday, in a commercial for their new Hybrid cue, the voice on the ad pronounced it Luh-caw-zee or Luh-caw-see, I really couldn't make out the last syllable clearly. But anyway, for years I've been saying it wrong :o and not one single person has ever tried to correct me. Maybe they thought I had it right the way I was saying it. How many people here knew the right pronounciation? Just curious.

Are there any other billiard products out there that are pronounced way different than they appear?

The correct way is the way that I've always pronounced it. I've never argued with anyone over the pronunciation as proper names often deviate from standard rules of pronunciation so I could have been wrong. English was my worst subject but I thought that the general rule was that a vowel was soft unless followed by another vowel.

The last name of the man that owns the company is Lucas.;)
The "I" was just added.

There are several cues on the Market that we pronounce wrong.

Here is a fun list of just a few of them:

Cue Maker and pronunciation
Searing- I bet your wife has no clue, does she?
Joss West- Ah, so you are divorced!
Cognoscenti- My last name is NOT Cognoscenti! Now, get in line.
Ginacue- Show me the Money
Black Boar- Show me even more Money
Balabushka- How long have you owned this house, sir and do you have a Co-signer?

:)

i thought it was loo-cah-see...

ive never liked putting w's where they dont belong. like that damned 'puddle of mud' song - 'psycho'. one of the lines is 'maybe im the one'
but he pronounces it 'maybe im tha wawwwnnn'.
i also live in one of the worst places in the country for disliking mispronunciation of words...

Can't believe someone hasn't mentioned "Schon". Is it shawn, shone, show-in, shern...Schon (with the umlauts) is German for pretty or beautiful.

Yep, have heard the schon ( as shawn) one many times. Also Joss is one I hear a lot. I hear it more down here in FL then I did in Chicago. I hear it as "Josh" all the time. I have heard lucasi both ways many times. I have always said it the way that you said it was on the comercial.

You're right about the "Josh" thing. They say it here in Iowa too. I got tired of correcting people when they looked at mine.

Meucci

I was at a Tournament back in the late '70s and Bob Meucci had set up a booth. At the time he pronounced his name so it sounded like may-oochee. Everyone else pronounced it mew-chee. I heard he finally got tired of correcting everyone and let it slide.

I am gonna say it Loo-k-c til they add a "w" in writing! :D BTW I've owned 3 and they all played fine....did a little research on who's building Predators...hmmm

other mis-pronounced words my wife and I bark at eachother about

> Icening....the stuff that goes on cakes!....I like leaving the extra "n" out:)

> Gravy.....no dear, ...it's called spaghetti sauce

> Chimley... yea, the thing Santa comes down.

> one for the Italians.... eye-gee-oiy.....or as the rest of the world sais it, eye-oiy whic is pasta with tons of garlic and olive oil....and whatever else you got in the fridge BUT red sauce!

LOL!!! Even Tim Scruggs says Josh. And Dan Janes said, "Timmy could never pronounce it right!"

The added problem is that the name Shawn has different pronunciation depending on what part of the country you're in.

Shawn in Chicago (~ shan with a nasal) doesn't sound a thing like Shawn in NYC (~Showahn)

I've heard Evan Clarke say the name. It doesn't sound like Chicago Shawn or NYC Shawn. He says Schon like I say Shawn. Not that you can hear me say it over the internet.

People around here say Schon as "shown".

My advisor in graduate school was an Italian man named Angelino. He said that with an Italian name pronounce every vowel and you will not be far off. In most cases it should be a long vowel.

If Lucasi is Italian I would pronounce it "lou K see."

And for the exception it is "Ann gel een oh," where the "gel" is pronounced as in jello. So rules of thumb are just that.

I would introduce my first wife as "Renee." and people would correct me saying, "Oh, you mean Ren ay." Then I would get to correct them and say that, "No, it's my wife, I know her name. In Scotland the contraction for Irene, is 'Ree knee.' " A rose by any other name ...

I had a similar experience with Jacoby cues. I had played for several years with a Jacoby that I got a good deal on used. Stopped shooting pool for a year or two, and decided to start back up with the obsession last year. I travel alot with the work I do. I found myself in Springfield, IL at Nielsen's looking for a new stick(too far from home to just pick up my Jacoby.) I was looking at the predator selection there, and mentioned I had Jacoby cue... saying it like you would say Jacob, only with an e sound at the end(Like, instead of miss, missy, etc...) And the lady was like "Oh, you have a Jacoby?" saying it like Jay-coe-by(like if you replaced the coby, with kobe as in kobe bryant.) And it just blew my mind.

She started showing my Jacoby special edition predator... which was sweet, but out of my price range for something with a predator shaft(in addition I like cues with a simplier design, but thats beside the point.)

I still don't know which the correct way to pronounce Jacoby is. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
