The other night I went to my wed night pool league. It's ApA and travels from bar to bar basically. Anyway we were playing at a place that I had never played at before and I was the first from my team to arrive so I went over and introduced myself to the captain of the other team.

We struck up a conversation about his Meucci and I commented how I liked the inlay design in his cue. He of course wondered what I had in the case. I pulled out the Richard Harris in my Avatar.

The Guy was unimpressed with how plain my cue was and suggested that if I save my money I can get a fancy cue like his someday. I replied that I had a new baby and all so tucking away some extra wasn't easy. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I wouldn't trade my cue for ten of his.

Just thought it was interesting how peoples perceptions can be so different.
 
You should have told him it would take 10 of his POS'S ( YES I HATE MUECCI's) just to afford one of yours :):)
 
This made me laugh. lol

Reminded me of the time when I was playing league. I put my cue together, placed it on the table and proceeded to rack since I lost the flip. My opponent goes on to tell me "When you get really good, perhaps you can trade that Dufferin in for a really nice cue someday like the rest of us players." Everyone around the table laughed along with the guy. That Dufferin was my Paul Mottey Ebony Sneaky Pete with a butterfly at the bottom. I then rolled the cue over, showing Mottey's signature/date and encouraged him or anyone on his team to call Mottey asking for one of these cues and see what response they get. ;)

Good for you, taking the high road.. I've had the same thing happen a few times... Just grin, nod your head and say, "yup, you've got a very nice cue" and all is well....

Then go laugh with your buddies... :p
 
I agree it is impolite to knock another man's cue. He didn't mean anything by it. He actually thought he was giving some helpful advice.
 
I don't tell anyone from here about cues. They would think I'm crazy or stupid or both. Most of the players are playing with McDermotts(what I used to play with before getting bit by the custom cue bug) Meucci's or a stick with a beer logo on it. When the guy with the Budlight stick runs out on you, you quickly realize how little the stick has to do with the game.:D

I agree, it's not about the arrows, but the Indian! :D
That's what I want to believe, coz I don't have the dough to buy a high end stick! :(
 
I went off on a rant two weeks ago about a Mucci I was paid with. The points are uneven, the shaft is warped, and I think the pin is crooked. The guy covered all of 40 bucks with it so he knew what he was ditching and if I'm honest I may be able to get that that out of it on ebay. Anyway I am talking about how the Mucci company had been slowly going down hill and how I would have to think long and hard about giving them my money. He slowly excused himself to warm up and pulled out his Mucci.
 
I have a cue by cuemaker Jerry Rahenzahn in Warren PA before he was putting his name on his cues. On the butt cap is his traditional -R- logo. When another player saw the -R- on it he told me I was playing with a no name rejected production cue and there must be something wrong with it.
 
i love the ignorance of some people.

I usta get that alot too when I was playing with my Gilbert. People would come upto me and ask about the cue, cuz it was a plain JB. So I'd say well its a Gilbert. And then someone would say, well I got this ( insert name ) cue, and how it looks so much nicer for alot less money and bla bla bla.

and yes, a couple yrs ago, I met this girl who played pool, and so I went to her league nite, to watch. It was a Busch League type of set up, playing BCA rules. Well one of the girls on the other team, looked like white trash, she was short, pudgy, wearing a wife beater, and using a cue with THE MACHINE on the side of it.

needless to say, she broke and ran 3 of her 4 racks. I mean I was like WTF? and this was how all of the girls played. Even the girl i was with, she'd break n run out 3 outa 4 games. I was totally in love! plus she was a cutie too. Now here 9ball game needed a bit of work, but oh well. She rocked at 8ball. And to top it off, she was using some no name junk cue also lol.

So yes, its the indian not the arrow.
 
You should have the guy rolled his Meucci on the top of the rails and let him see how his ferruled bounced up and down.
NOW, he has an excuse to miss.

Truer words have never been spoken. I won a Bud cue in a raffle a few years ago. I took it to the local pro shop and had them change the ferrule and tip so that it would be a little more playable. I love that cue and sometimes I take it out with me. I've never been approached by someone while I was playing with it, but I have gone "fishing" with it a time or two.:D

After he declines, tell him to look it up, he just lost about two grand. Then, give him the seven and win his production cue and give it back to him.

I had something happen to me a league on Thurs. that was similar, but in the opposite way....Opponet asked to see my cue after our match, and commented on how much he liked the looks of the wood. It's a McDermott COM Oct. 06 (M64D Phoenix - Zebrawood). He said he liked it better than the "gawdy" cues some of the others were playing (Schons, Pechauers, higher end production cues like that, and even a couple of customs). I chuckled and told him those other cues were MUCH more expensive than mine. He asked what mine cost, and I told him just a little over $200....He said, NO WAY would he ever spend that much on a cue! I laughed again, and said, we'll see after you've played a couple of sessions in league. :)

Pretty cool compliment for my "el-cheapo" cue though, even if it was from a newbie.
