Magic Ball Rack Pro

I have mine three days and over 200 racks played on it and I don’t see a problem with it at all. It does what it says it will do, I can see it is going to last, and it gives a perfect rack every time. Time will tell if the pros will embrace it or not. But I wouldn’t be surprised if in the near future you here it was one of the stipulations negotiating a four figure action match. Johnnyt

Whenever I play, I ask if my opponent minds if we use the magic rack. Most comply, some prefer the old school rack. It's so much nicer to have a frozen 9 ball off the break than to see it shoot towards the corner pockets. The only thing I can see that might be an issue is the occasional ball that gets shifted of its path while slow rolling over the rack. Sometimes it's just the little tiny bit of millimeters that make a difference between an open shot or getting hooked. I still like it though. I keep the 9 ball version in my case.

The inside wing ball percentage can skyrocket to 80% or more, so I'm not crazy about the magic rack for pro 9 ball. Still a tournament directors wet dream though, bound to speed up any tournament.

I will use the magic rack for 10 ball, but for 9 ball the corner ball goes everytime, everytime. Thats no fun. It would not be a big deal to run 5 or 10 racks every inning. Who wants to see that. So I say lets play with it for 10 ball

Even in 10 ball, balls go like crazy. I should chart it... I'd confidently state I make an average of at least 1.5 (I break hard so usually one ball breaks in half ;)). I rarely break dry.

When I use a regular rack, and usually it's loser racks and I check it, it's often depressing :(. I hate nitpicking someone's ernestly made rack for half a hair's width separation in a position not conducive to a predictable break.

I've bought 2 MBR's and kept them at the pool hall for other reg's to use. The new Pro model is most definitely an improved, more durable product.

I love the thing. I swear, if it had breasts my girlfriend would be history!

Tout threads

Thought these tout threads ended. The guys selling them always started the threads. Money players would never use these. The idea of having to move a ball in a 2K set to get the rack out of the way is just silly. Delta 13 rack is the way to go.

Shouldn't these tout threads be in the Product Review section?

Product Review section? maybe,

But, this area reaches more viewers (including you) that normally don't visit the 'product review section'.

Aside from the obvious gambler's racking issues, let us agree that they can handle them as they see fit..

Having a tight rack is something a lot of players are not use to. I've heard the "more balls go in on the break" because of these tight racking gizmos. Ever since the presence of the Sardo Rack there has been these 'Touts' of more balls being made on the break..

Remember the 2003 Corey Deuel US Open 11-0 championship 'slow breaking' thumping of Mika Immonen? If it weren't for the tight rack, Corey wouldn't have been able to control the table so well. Make a wing ball and get shape on the 1 ball.. it's all over. I am pretty sure Mika was steaming because he didn't have a chance and he knew it.

Now gambling is a different issue. Not too many gamblers that post up 4 figures carry around a Sardo or Delta whatever. They just might be able to curl up a little magic rack tho, ya think?

I respectfully disagree. On all counts. I tout it because I want more people to use it. I get no jelly from it. I don't know if $50 racks, or $100 sets qualify me as a money player, but I (obviously) use it, and that means my opponent does as well. I hate shitty racks, I hate shady rackers and I believe benefiting from reading defective racks is a bit dirty (albeit a skill a good player better employ).

To each his own and everyone's opinion should be respected. However, I get perturbed when someone condemns it without ever having experience with it (I'm not sayin you hadn't tried it). It seems short-sighted.

Ask Jay Helfert or dabarbr or many other highly repsected players that have used it if they agree with the points in your post. Money players DO use it. It'll be interesting to see how its popularity progresses.

IMHO

A tout thread??? really???? Im not touting this , Im just providing an opinion on something that I have used and used while gambling. I would gamble using the magic rack in 10 ball but thats about it

The Magic Rack will go the way of the Sardo, IMO.

I know it's a low ticket item to spend a lot of money on ads, but if they dropped the price and get it all over the net I believe it will be around for as long as I'll be around. Maybe send a few out to some area poolrooms and track orders from those zip codes. If enough orders come in try a few more zip codes. Johnnyt

This is a "never-was".

And as far as someone never "trying this", that's exactly what the touts shilling this cried, then when someone came out with a new idea, the touts attacked them mercilessly. Same old same old.

My info on the Magic rack is second hand only, so take this with a grain of salt if you wish.

By nearly every account the product yields racks as good or better than any other product. Hard not to like that.

It's way cheaper than the Sardo, or my current favorite the Delta-13. In pool halls, where they might get rough treatment, they might have a short lifespan, thus being more expensive in the long run, but that's just speculation. Plus, owners will still have to have regular racks for all 15 ball games.

The very high percentage wing ball issue is also an issue with the other two products that produce excellent racks. It's a function of the rack quality, not the product. And it's easy to fix, i.e., rack with the 9 on the spot.

My understanding is that in practice, in 9 Ball, problems associated with deflection, or balls stopping on the template are minimal.

What's not to like for 9 Ball?

Agreed. At the end of the day is it functional enough for the masses to use regularly? Or is it going to become something people simply tolerate in exchange for a perfect rack? Personally, if the latter is true, and people are content to tolerate it rather than embrace it, it won't last long. I'm strangely comfortable with a Diamond rack ...

Sometimes it's just the little tiny bit of millimeters that make a difference between an open shot or getting hooked.

Nothin more to say. Some slow rolling balls will roll untrue. They will roll OFF!!!

It's out! Period! Junk! Nope! No way! End of discussion.

If I understood correctly, the thickness of the MBR is the same as the thickness of the spot (and yes, a slow roller over the MBR can be thrown off line just like rolling over the spot). Still, after the break and before any other play, the MBR is removed (with a rare exception of a ball actually sitting ON the MBR, then it is removed as soon as the impeding ball is moved).

Probably the biggest plus FOR the rack is how perfectly it racks, no re-fitting balls in a regular rack, no re-racks, no arguments, etc.,etc..

Nothin more to say. Some slow rolling balls will roll untrue. They will roll OFF!!!

I just got mine yesterday,Yes I make more balls on the break but the 9 seems to stay put.I also have the sardo and i think so far I like the mbr better.
If you have a problem with the ball always going into the corner pocket, you can always just spot it.imho

I have broke hundreds of games with it and made the 9 once that I can remember, and that 9 got kicked back to the corner at the head of the table. No matter how you hit them the 9 won't leave the middle of the rack unless kicked. Johnnyt

How many of us get to play with pristine equipment? The answer most likely is very few. I play on decent tables but the balls are old an worn and some of the wooden racks have splinters. I checked the balls and they are worn well over .020 and some out of round by that much as well. No doubt his makes racking a real challenge and takes a fair amount of time.

Personally I'm not going to buy new balls and a new Delta rack or whatever to take to the pool room. The room owners are not going to buy new balls every year or two and all new expensive racks. So the answer is either live with it or do something about it.

The MBR is a good inexpensive alternative. Personally I hate bad racks so I bought a MBR. Now the balls always break well and no more clusters in the rack area because of a poor rack etc. The nine rarely moves and you just remove the template/rack after the break. It is very rare a ball is ever on the template/rack. Even if one was were all big boys and can deal with it how ever we choose.

Y'all go ahead and fight poor equipment but I'm not going to any more, at least not playing 9 or 10 ball.
