Magic Eraser for shaft

Bought some tonight on the advice of user Blu Hog Ridr. It has "febreze" in it, is that something I should worry about?

Also 91% alcohol okay on a laminated shaft (cuetec r-360)?

Thanks, don't want to screw anything up.

Not sure I would use one that is impregnated with Febreze. Should be just the original ME.

I have had better success using lukewarm water, squeezing out the excess. I let dry upright for about 5-10 minutes, then wipe down with denatured alcohol. The d enatured alcohol has zero water in it, and draws out any water trapped in the woodgrain out. The alcohol evaporates rather quickly. Then I use a superfine sandpaper to smooth out the raised grain. I heavily burnish the shaft with a piece of leather. Smooth as a baby's bottom.

Best combination I have found

Magic Eraser and 91% alcohol is the best combination I have found. Cleans the shafts better than anything else I have tried. You want the quick evaporation. Finish with a high grit sandpaper ( I use 1400 grit) and then a good carnuba wax ( I use one of my guitar waxes).
It becomes habit forming.

use the original ME and alcohol.

use the others to clean your couch.

Ok, staters only had the couch cleaner version of magic eraser (lol) so I headed to vons, not only did they have the original - blue box - they also had 99% isopropyl alcohol!

Wasted 10 at staters but at least i've got the right combo now

thx for all the input

All bad advice especially if you have to finsh up with sandpaper no matter how fine. All you need is 3 drops of your preferred cleaner on a folded paper towel. Wipe briskly. The shaft doesn't get wet and the dirt lifts off. No, not all of the dirt will come off but at least you preserve the integrity of the wood without raising the grain or introducing moisture.

And before anybody gets pissed do it exactly as I described then see if I know what I'm talking about.

The ME is abrasive and a damp ME is abrasive plus raises the grain not to mention introduces moisture to the wood that may lead to warpage.

I use it dry and then burnish it with leather.. clean and smooth.

I use warm water with the magic eraser, rinse most of the water out. I clean the shaft and ferrule, then I dry it off with a towel, then burnish it with a piece of leather. This has worked good for me for the past few years.

Never used a magic eraser. I use the 91% alcohol & a leather burnisher.
I will all so use body shop paper from 1000 to 2500 grit once in awhile.
But I've since purchased some Nicks Edge micro grit film & I have to say I like it.
I don't know what grit it is(theirs 3 different ones). If I had to guess I would say 2000,2500,&3000. They're pretty smooth & reusable.
Like I said I've never tried the magic eraser but doesn't it all so sand the shaft? What grit would you say it is?

I use a those green scrubbies, gets the dirt right off...then I use a bill from the money off the last guy I just beat. Smooths the shaft out nice and shiny.

You gotta be lying about the green pad...if not, how old is your shaft and can we see a picture?

I wipe mine with a damp paper towel and that is it. I like it blue.

you're my boy, blue.

Magic Eraser is much less abrasive and will clean your shaft without removing wood.
I'll use alcohol only if the shaft is dirty. Burnishing with leather or money? Don't know.

So you've been using the same bill for 5 years? Must be beat up!

Hehe, just messing with ya. :)

A Magic Eraser will wear down your shaft. I have had several people swear by how well the ME cleans shafts. Then I measure their shafts with a set of calipers. Most are surprised to find that their VERY CLEAN Predator 314's are playing at around 12.25mm. It's a very fine abrasive pad. Note: ABRASIVE. You may as well be rubbing your shaft down with rubbing compound.

The best cleaner for a shaft is 99% pure isopropyl alcohol. If you insist on the shaft being smooth as a baby's butt, then get a thick piece of leather or cardboard and burnish your shaft with it.

If you don't believe me regarding the ME wearing down a shaft, take measurements of your shaft today. Keep cleaning with the ME. Remeasure the shaft diameter along the length of the shaft you clean 6-8 months later. You WILL notice a change.

I just had my shaft reconditioned and after playing a couple of times and missing that gleaming white I took to the ferrule and first six inches of the tip end with a Magic Eraser (regular one without additives). It's been rough between my fingers since so I won't be using it again on my cue.

You didn't finish the job, The ME works because it has micro fine bits that get in even the smallest places and removes the dirt. On wood it will leave it somewhat rough as will like any other cleaner. You now have to burnish the shaft to have it smooth again. You can use 2000 sand paper followed with leather or just leather. What ever method you like.

Leaving the shaft a little rough feeling is not a knock on ME you have to finish the job. Also if you use a wax or sealer of some kind on the shaft it will discourage it from getting so dirty. A deep cleaning like ME does is not often needed but when you want that like new look there is not much that works better or easier then ME.

Then you replace the shaft in 5 years ?? I mean, it is a piece of sporting equipment, when it wears out, you replace it. No big deal. Shafts are not pricey enough you can't replace one every 5 years. My kid goes through a baseball bat every year, and they cost a lot more than a shaft, heck costs more than an OB or predator shaft...

First of all you don't have to use the ME that often unless you are extremely messy with the chalk. I use it every 3 months or so. Have been using it for years with no issues.

Use the ME with alcohol and then burnish it with leather.
