my lord, lordy lordy woe!!! double woe!!!! have you guys seen the promo for the king of the hill reality pool show???? wow!!! pool is gonna be bigger than, poker!!!! man o' man what a show!!!!!!!!

The beginning looks like the start of a movie or something with that voice.
I can't wait to watch it!

Wow!

All I can say is SHUT UP!...Long Live The IPT if they can pull this off, and a BIG THX to KT...

Even if it only goes one season, it will kick much ass... the promo is fantastic!!!

I just got back in from playing tonight and being out of the loop and wondered why everyone in this thread was so excited and using all those superlatives. Well, I went on the IPT website and I have to say, that promo is absolutely fantastic! I can see what all the noise is about and that there will be a lot of interest created for pool in that segment. Can't wait to watch the show now! Thanks once again Mr. Trudeau.

Professional Railbird's Opinion

Kevin Trudeau has followed through and put pool on the map with this promo piece. It was the BEST video presentation I have ever seen, bar none. I cannot imagine how many HUNDREDS of hours of video the production team had to pore through, and I think the end product is going to attract mainstream America to the tube when the eight 1-hour episodes and 2-hour finale debut in March 2006.:)

Having said all of the above, I am eager to watch this promo once more on a high-speed cable or DSL line. On my dial-up connection at home, it took 2 hours to watch the promo in its entirety, the audio was completely unintelligible, and the video shot out in bursts of 4-second increments throughout the duration, not a smooth stream.:(

I thought Ewa Mataya was beautiful, gorgeous, and alluring, and though I could not hear the words she spoke on the video due to my dial-up, I thought she came across just great. The snippets of the KOTH in Las Vegas showed Mike Sigel being escorted out to the pit by four scantily clad women, and the complete buttocks were in full view. I didn't like that part, and I guess I'm turning more and more into my mother each day I age. I'm sure the gentlemen in the audience will appreciate that vision more than me.:D

And then there was Earl. I remember the cameras following Earl throughout the duration of the KOTH in Orlando, and I can't wait to see Earl's snippets. The BEST action portion of the video for me was when Earl Strickland broke the balls, him looking like a mighty warrior holding onto his weapon of mass destruction, in the heat of the battle.

I did see Keith speaking in one segment, and though he looked very attractive in his three-piece suit, I couldn't hear one word of what he said, again, due to my dial-up connection. I pray that it was all good because I NEVER know what is going to come out of his mouth at times.:o

It was interesting to see the brief segment of Tom Cruise a/k/a Vincent in "The Color of Money." Though I couldn't hear the audio, I was thinking it must have taken a lot of pull to get Disney to allow the IPT to show it on this promo. :p

Since I was in Orlando for the KOTH, I witnessed the event in its entirety. At the players' meeting, I was totally impressed with Kevin Trudeau's presentation. He is an EXCELLENT speaker and has the capability to hold one's interest. I would have liked to have seen more of him in this video presentation.:p

Karen Corr was the ONLY lady to pass Levels 1 and 2, starting from the bottom. Whereas, the Hall of Fame ladies and gents began their play at Level 3, having a bye for Levels 1 and 2. As I was watching the promo, I was wondering what on earth would they have done if Karen, Allison, Loree, Robin, Gerda, or any of the ladies would have triumphed and beaten Mike Sigel in the finals. The name of the event would have had to have been changed to "QUEEN of the Hill." :D

I'm going to watch it once more on a high-speed connection, so that I can enjoy with the audio and smooth-running video instead of 4-second bursts. I'm sure it won't take 2 hours to see it again, but if it does, I won't mind. I thought it was absolutely stupendous, first class, and the beginning of a new era of pool on TV. I very much liked the theme at the beginning of the castle with the King of Hearts. I am thankful that the IPT has generated so much excitement and can't wait until March to see this baby unfold.:)

Knights of old in shining armor (three piece suits), dueling cuesticks, an 8-ball shot out of a cannon, a Castle in the gloaming.....or glen.

But I will have to wait until I get to the club and see it on DSL.

Looks pretty good.

Will it be on local TV?

The big question: Will Bernie be able to contain himself until the first tournament. Or will he need to be sedated.

funny, very very funny, i'm gonna go with sedated. now jam, keith said, i haven't seen a woman beat a man yet. it's a must for you to see this on high speed, i had the same trouble as you, and i called up my brother in law 5 mins away, he was nice enough to have me come and watch it, it was worth it!!!!!! man, what a promo!!! the ipt just e-mailed it's members saying just about every network wants to have it now, and that the ipt is in the driver's seat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starting to look big time

Well, its a good promo, though typical in the TV world - where polished production and slick hype are expected. That said, I think it looks MUCH better than the initial Mike & LJJ production in Vegas...

Its starting to look professional.

- The use of the game's personalities, characters, nicknames was great, and as this is central to the flavor of the game it should be further exploited. Earl, Keith, etc. being outrageous...the emotion of made & missed shots...this was really good stuff. This is the emotive vein that they should keep working...

- The editing was righteous. Also the sound. If you had to do a slow internet connection thing to watch, you find someplace with high speed conenctivity & good screen/speakers to watch & listen again. Its good. Full marks.

- On the contra side...Comparing Pool to Poker is risky - first you can't win, Poker is already huge, and everyone knows it...and second, its just better form to sell what you got rather than against what the other sport/game has.... however, in the context of what this promo is used for, they are sellling against a bunch of Poker shows, probably against the same demographic, so it might come off as refreshing to a jaded TV type who has sat through promo after promo for poker shows. It was good that they made the point once and got off it quickly so we didn't get beat about the head with it after that initial intro with the King card arising out of the castle and the 8-ball being fired from the cannon - a clever idea, but not the best produced segment of this promo.

- I'm still not in favor of the scantily clad women in Vegas shots. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing pretty women as much as anyone, but it just looks tacky when you're trying to look big time. Reminiscent of the XFL (an aptly named group we wouldn't want to be part of...).

- The men vs women thing wasn't overplayed, which was good, cause its a loser theme basically, with no appeal since Bobby Riggs. What was encouraging was to see the young guns vs. old guns "it's not 1978 anymore..." aspect played up here. That's always the story in sports, and will always sell.

I'm very hopeful that the actual on-air production lives up to the expectation; The booth has a good play-by-play and color combination, no third man, and no KT announcing, nor hyping the damn book either. Also, that they do a better, less self-serving job explaing the rules and equipment - using graphics, explaining rationale for the rules and cloth without putting down other rules, other games, other equipment like they did before.

Anyway you look at it, this promo was a very significant improvement to the Sigel-Jones match. Good show!

I thought the highlights were: (something to these effects)
1. Earl : 'Sure I know how to lose...I'm a loser"
2. Keith : "I can't see any women beating the men....She might beat me, but I'd bet my money she ain't"
And Mike Sigel put in a great performance with a few cocky quotes.

I think the audiences will love Keith, he has fantastic screen presence.....and love/hate Earl.:D

Of course it is going to be on the air, KT is paying for it. You honestly think every network is clamoring to show a tournament / reality show done months ago that everybody knows the outcome of, and pay for it giving it 10 hours of air time? You know the worst part of this is, Kt feeds the same ridiculous BS to you members as he does to everyone else like you are a bunch of mindless idiots. He should at least show you guys some respect and be straight up with you all instead of his insane hype, save that for the rest of the public. I hope at least behind closed doors you all really know what is going on even if we aren't prive to it.

Good points Cardinal.

I think the only reason the poker comparison is in there is because the viewing target is TV execs, who will be comparing this program with poker content. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to air that part to the public, as it might feel like an attack to the poker fans who are a key target audience.

My feeling is, people who know even a little about pool (which is the masses) will want to watch this. TCOM and the HUSTLER proved there is a mainstream audience that can appreciate pool when placed within appealing content.

For those on slow connection. I believe the video buffers into temp memory, so after the first slow download, you may be able to watch it smoothly. I was able to anyway, the initial download took nearly an hour for me.

So if it receives good ratings and is sold at good prices to networks worldwide, would you then be willing to eat a little humble pie?

Absolutely. If any major network picks this thing up and pays for 9 segments with the nail biting final, (That was played months ago and the outcome is common knowledge) especially since the final turned out to be so bad and viewers will be flipping after most of the first set. I will be amazed beyond all words. The chances are some where between nothing and zero of it happening. KT will just buy time and show it that is the only way it will ever get on the air.

KoTH Promo

Very impressive!

Evidently, no expense has been spared to make this a world class presentation. I daresay each show will be the same, or better, as well. KT has done everything he said he would thus far, I could even make a case that he's exceeded expectations in a number of areas, and I couldn't be more pleased for all of the IPT members lucky enough to get on this flight! I was telling a buyer in the media buying (TV advertising) group at my company that pool would be the next poker on TV and we better continue to step up (we bought some spots in the airing of the first show). She got excited because she and her husband are both league players. We're everywhere!

Gee and I thought I was carping... I expect somebody will pick it up, there's never enough programming to go around really. How much they pay is a different question, and KT might indeed wind up four-walling it (meaning he did 1. the event, 2. the production, 3. bought the air time, and 4. sold the ads). Happens more often than you think. May not mattter if the exposure & production are good; the trick in four-walling is selling the ads - and not to yourself! Then the ratings / buzz would have to be there to make more of this work out.... Despite the known outcomes, I think that could be the case. Look, we - the pool cognoscenti - would all watch even though we know what happened, just to see it; the average possibly-mildly-intrigued-potential-audience isn't going to necessarily know the outcome until / unless they watch. You think all those poker matches are live? - those outcomes are known, too by the tie they air. Obviously a tense nail-biter hill-hill final would be better drama, but even the final, with the proper spin / storyline, could be pretty viewable.

Stay tuned.

JAM,
My company does videostreaming, so I can tell you that you really cannot get it to work on a dial up line...actually you're lucky to have experienced any sort of "stream" at all at dial up speed, often it'll just drop. Better to download the file first, like to the desktop then watch it off your copy of the file - that's usually doable by RIGHT clicking on the link and finding the download option in the menu. When you watch it off your desktop, it'll be smooth & have sound, etc.
