Magnificent Promo For Koh

JAM,
My company does videostreaming, so I can tell you that you really cannot get it to work on a dial up line...actually you're lucky to have experienced any sort of "stream" at all at dial up speed, often it'll just drop. Better to download the file first, like to the desktop then watch it off your copy of the file - that's usually doable by RIGHT clicking on the link and finding the download option in the menu. When you watch it off your desktop, it'll be smooth & have sound, etc.
Can't do that as it's embedded in an HTML document that opens a flash player.

Don't know if it can be copied from flash. It's often used to protect video content. I'd love to have a desktop copy so I could show it to people, potential sponsors etc:D

Think it will be as big and popular as the Super Bowl 40 years from now?

Will it draw the advertisers?

Super Bowl is so big that the commercials are more popular than the game itself. Time for a commercial during the super bowl: $5,000,000 per minute.

Since you know something about it, how good is it possable to do it? Is what we are used to seeing as good as it gets or if someone spared no expense could it be like TV?

Having said all of the above, I am eager to watch this promo once more on a high-speed cable or DSL line. On my dial-up connection at home, it took 2 hours to watch the promo in its entirety, the audio was completely unintelligible, and the video shot out in bursts of 4-second increments throughout the duration, not a smooth stream.:(

Try watching it again after its gone through it. I probably have the slowest connection out of everyone hear (It took the video almost 4hrs to get to the end), but after it was finished I played it again and it streamed with perfect sound. So give it another go, it might work.

Wow, I am surprised that so many savvy computer people on this forum still have dial-up!! Don't you have cable TV? It is very easy to get internet cable too from the same company. You are all missing some great footage and not just pool. In the NPR section, we are always posting fun, interesting, or unusual videos on different subjects, not to mention how long it takes for your pages to refresh and load. 2-4 hours to watch a short video....Time is money! ;)

JAM - good point on Keith's remark. Apparently, if you don't remember it, it never happened, lol. :p

I'm this close to getting DSL on my home line. Dana Bufalo told me in Providence, RI, this past weekend that he pays $14.95 per month with Verizon. I used to have high-speed cable with Comcast when they first came around, and I had problems dealing with the company. At an office downtown, I do have the high-speed. With five telephone numbers to my name, I may elect to go with the DSL on one of them. Communicating with Comcast in D.C. is difficult. The D.C. Comcast doesn't treat its customers as nicely as other cable companies, IMHO. :(

AND Cardinal, Colin, and others are right. I did go back to the IPT website on my dial-up gerbil-driven home computer, it worked just fine. It's hard to believe a 3-minute video took 2 hours for me to watch initially.

With the Internet being the communications tool for many an entity, I do wonder about the IPT players and/or prospective players who have no computer skills and don't even know how to operate a computer. To date, the IPT communicates via e-mail and the IPT website. Spanish Mike, as an example, must depend on a family member to keep him apprised of the IPT happenings at this juncture, and he isn't the only one.

It is nice that there are AzB-ers who enjoy the NPR sub-forum. My first and only experience there was not a very good one, but I do recognize that it's a fun kind of place to exchange thoughts and ideas, enjoyed by quite a few. That is what makes AzBilliards Discussion Forum great. :)

And let's not forget about Karen Corr who has defeated Jose Parica twice in my presence, and a whole slew of other male players.

I am also reminded of a comment that Earl Strickland made to Gerda on the offs at the KOTH in Orlando, and as fate would have it, Gerda defeated him when they faced each other on a field of green. Allison Fisher beat Niels Feijen in Orlando, too. ;)

I loved the promo video! It kind of reminds me of the shows on tv right now, Skating with Celebrities, Dancing with the Stars, which are phoenomenal hits. I personally don't ice skate or ballroom dance, but we don't miss an episode. They let you get to know the people involved, see backstage happenings, etc. I think the IPT will also make alot of non pool people big fans, as KT said.
Gabe's grandmother is 92 yrs old, started watching pool matches on tv and buying pool magazines years ago because of Gabe of course, but over the past several years, she has also become a major fan of many other players and watches for them now too! When she gets her Sunday tv guide, the first thing she does is go through it and circle all the pool matches for the week so she is sure not to miss any of them! haha It's a hoot!
So I"m sure the IPT will attract many more 90+ yr old people, as well as other age groups!(if nothing else, gabe's grandmother will be promoting it to her senior friends!!)

Gabe's bit about it not being 1978 anymore was great...lol

Nice story about grandma too:D
Colin

Yeah, that bit was funny, especially since he was born in 1977! I remember Keith McCready came to Wichita, and played at our pool hall we owned way back then, just before Gabe was born! Now he plays him sometimes. Life can really be amusing as the years go by!

Looks cool,i cant wait till it hist TV but will it be airing on primetime cable?I never got to see the other event that was on a few months ago,it seemed like it was on only in certain areas,is ESPN or FOX picking it up?

I was fortunate to see it at the 2nd qualifier at The Pool Room in Marietta, GA. Deno showed it to all the players and everyone was very impress with the production quality of it.

I love the trash talking by Gabe: "...this is not 1978.", commenting on Mike Sigel and Johnny Archer: "...come on you country redneck...", addressed jokingly (I think) to Shawn Putnam.

In all, the promo was awesome! I watched it 5 times to make sure that I didn't miss any thing.

I got to watch it on high speed today and it sure was nice. Especially since I was there when some of the scenes were filmed. When they filmed Earl I was a few feet to the right and thought it was pretty funny. I wonder if it was scripted. "I know how to lose. I am a loser" said Earl. And off he went down the escalator.

I thought the pretty ladies was a nice tusch - I mean touch. Much better than using the delicious one sans clothes.

Will it be shown during the Super Bowl?

Jake

Super Bowl? Get real. Companies pay millions for a 30-sec spot in the Super Bowl, and they book those ads months in advance. :P

Actually it costs 2.5 million for a 30 second spot during the Super Bowl. And I only asked in jest.

I feel sorry for the advertisers if the game is not close or interesting and viewers drop off in the 2nd half.

Jake

I believe this is what is distributed to media outlets for their review, not an actual commercial for tv, especially since it is so long, someone said it is 3 minutes (I didn't time it).

The viewing quality of streaming video is dependent upon a slew of factors: the codec used to capture / view the video (COmpressor / DECompressor), bandwidth available, frame rate (how often the picture "repaints" the screen), native size (in pixels, or dots) of the encoded video, and more. Ultimately, higher quality means a larger digital file - which has to flow in a pipe of a given size at a certain volume per second. If the pipe is big enough, no problem, so ... in theory, given enough bandwidth, there's no reason why it can't be as good as broadcast TV...
In practice, it often isn't because of the compromises you have to make - especially around bandwidth available to the viewers (how big is their pipe?). That's why you sometimes see video clips on the 'net with multiple options based on your bandwidth / line speed. T3/T1 - Cable - DSL - dialup are the methods most in use (ISDN still in some remote areas and places outside the US). So, the short answer is if someone spared no expense, you can make it as good as broadcast, but you'd also be shrinking the audience because the reception bandwidth/speed is a factor, too. Typically, streaming is done for DSL as the lowest common denominator so DSL users can view it as it arrives. If you have dialup, try downloading and saving the file. If the file can't be downloaded & saved, try watching it immediately again after it ends - if there's enough memory to hold it all - the second viewing will be good. Neither approach always works.
Probably more than you wanted to know. On the receiving end, the key is get the highest speed / bandwidth connection you can. ;)
