Maid Mistake- MAD!

so...yesterday was maid day at our house and we double the bi-weekly ding for them as a Christmas bonus. We do ask them to do the basement, which they don't usually include.

Our pool table is down there and they got Pledge on the cloth. I am pretty pissed about it, but the table did need recovering about a year ago. I am sitting on a text to the lady who runs the show, letting her know that the error could cost ~$500 to correct, but I am not going to ask her to pay the cost.

Worried that she will respond defensively and stop providing her services. We have a decent rate that has not changed is 5+ years. I cannot recall a time when they failed to show up without rescheduling and they do a better job than I would.

With the cloth in its current state, not such a big deal. But it cannot happen again, especially once the cloth is replaced.

Can anything good come from my telling her of her crew's error? Should I keep it to myself or tell her?

You have to say something or they may do it again next time they clean the basement. Also, you may save someone else from the same problem.

Before I saw the picture, I assumed they got a little on the cushions while wiping down the rails. What were they doing to get big-looking drips that far onto the bed of the cloth?

I don't know if anything good will directly come back to you but a friendly reminder to her and her crew would go a long way in karma points. I mean, what if RKC had just driven out of the driveway?

Mention it but make sure you also mention that you already planned to recover. You only need to let them know they made a mistake...you are not trying to get money out of them. As mantioned, they may offer to make some sort of restitution, which would be a good thing, but you don't have to accept.

Then, cover your table next time strangers will be around it...not everyone will treasure your table (cloth) the same as you would.

Sorry to hear. That was being sloppy on their part. I would mention it to the owner who sould pass it on to the rest of the employees, but sloppy people and turnover,... in one ear and out the other. I would just buy a table cover. That should be enough of a sign (and excuse) for them not to disturb what's underneath.

If you did have a table cover and they did that,... I'd really be upset and want some type of funds towards a recover..

You said the table needed recovering anyway. Get it recovered, buy a cover to put over it, and instruct them not to go near the table. Case closed.

Cover the table when not playing. Also, you should be cleaning and waxing the table (but not with Pledge) instead of a person that does not know or appreciate how important the table is. The good news is that you can use Woolite and clean the Pledge from the cloth.

instead of recovering it why don't you try to get it out. What is pledge? oil/wax? Cloth is cloth and just try the same thing you would do for an oil spot on clothes. At this point you have nothing to lose.

Glad I live in a land where recovering the table is $50 in labor $50 in cloth.

Which is good because I kind of hate the cloth I just put on (which was a free sample anyway)

Also, very sorry to see this. I know it's sickening to see any of your equipment damaged.

For what it's worth, John Brumback sprays his entire pool table cloth down with Pledge on a regular basis. I've seen him do it. He swears by it. I can say that it does make the table play faster. He holds the can about 2 feet above the bed and sprays it as evenly as possible.

Note, I don't do it myself though, as I can't bear the thought of it.

Thanks for the input, folks...I agree that this matter of extreme importance is only important to me (and you;))

jnf- can you elaborate on the Woolite? How to? Not that familiar with the product...isn't it a liquid? Do drip some on? Apply to a cloth first? Need to rinse after? Thanks for the idear.

Dannyb...you just wait until I bring my sloppy sneezey self to your house. I will bring a violin for you too.

As my wife says to me all the time, ask your friend Google

I would totally tell her. Regardless of how long she has been In service with you it does not excuse the mistake of her employees. If you were gonna replace it anyway I would just make a point to show her and tell her it would be ignored this time but next it would be on her regardless of what was damaged. Maybe suggest some free cleanings...

Hey BB, it looks like the hired help was having sex on your table. I'd call a bio-hazard team in if I were you.

Set up a hidden spy camera and see what the heck is going on down there!!!

Maniac (has seen this very same spot before )
