Making A Cue Extension

I have been thinking lately about getting some type of cue extension like the Tony Ryan or the one Johnny Archer uses (can't remember the name at the moment), but I got to thinking that the designs on these look so simple it couldn't be that hard to make one myself at minimum cost. I just wondered if anyone else out there has fashioned their own homemade cue extender. After I give it a shot I'll report the results.

Here is one I made
About 10 bucks for uniloc pin and insert and the bottom of an old fiberglass fishing rod I had

They were for sale her earlier for like $25 shipped. I'd find it hard to believe the trouble of making one is worth the headache & the $15 you may save.

For as infrequently as I would need it I definitely fashioned something that will do the trick for about 5 dollars. Some PVC pipe, foam pipe insulation and spray adhesive I'm making 2 (one for me and a friend) for about 10 bucks. The hardest part is going to be cutting the pipe to length, but that'll be nothing once I use my dad's miter saw.

they work perfectly, JA has used one for years.

The ad's say it will work on any cue so I bought one. Bad news..... it won't work on a Sailor cue.

My playing cue is a Sailor and the bumper is attached with a #10x32 machine screw into a threaded sleeve inserted in the butt. I got a piece of 1" round dowel and a 1 1/2" long 10x32 machine screw. I filed a point on the end of the screw, drilled a hole in the dowel, screwed the screw into the dowel a 1/2" or so, cut off the screw head to the length I wanted, filed the end so it would thread correctly, painted it black and VIOLA!.... I have a 20" long, crude as hell extension, with a screw that is NOT straight, that works great.

I use a hack saw on a miter board.

These kinds are no good IMO because they scratch the butt off your cue all up. I had a similar one and that's what it did to my Schuler cue. I have a Mezz cue with the extension that screws right in to the bumper, and that's the right way to go if you're looking for a cue extension. I love mine, and I almost never have to use the mechanical bridge. It gives me better cue ball control than the bridge.
