I get there for the tournament tonight,and the cue ball on the front table is the same nasty "bolt". The other table,which had a workable but not top shelf cue ball,is now sporting a brand-new green Aramith logo ball,which played pretty nice for a bar ball.

One of the guys that is in this group of complainants is in the bar eating lunch when the guy that services all the bar tables comes in,and sees him replace the cue ball,and asks him why these cue balls roll funny and this was his response.

"These cue balls have a SPRING (BOIIING!) in them. In that one the spring is broke,that's why I changed it. :eek:"

Who does he really think is going to believe that? I just laughed it off. The crazy thing is,the cue ball he replaced was the better of the 2,the BAD one is still there,due to come apart any day now. Tommy D.

The lightning bolt DOES have a spring in it,,,,,,,,,,,,, sorry, couldn't resist.

I carry 2 of the Aramith balls around in my case, for league and the small tourneys. As for the 2 balls you were just talking about, if I have to make a choice, I will play with the lightning bolt, even though it probably rolls off more than the other ball. WHY??????? Because, you can tell which way it will roll off, and it will come in handy at some point in the night.

If that symbol is on the left side of the ball, as you're laying down to shoot, it will roll to the left. If it's on the right, it will roll off to the right. If it's on the top or bottom, you should see it roll fairly straight. Get it out and practice with it a little. All you need to do is remember not to slow roll it, unless you're playing the curve. It's basically like putting a golf ball, and playing the slope and speed on the green. It will give you a definite advantage over all the other players.

Sounds like the "ink" used to paint that lightning bolt on the ball has lead or some other heavy metal in it. :p
 
I measured the weight of numerous CBs from my local poolhall and my set of Super Aramiths. I avoid that lighting bolt CB at all costs...its heavy!

Aramith Bartable (green logo): 5.94oz
Aramith Measles: 5.84oz
Aramith Red Triangle (90's era): 5.89oz
Aramith Super OBs (90's era): 5.91oz
Black Lightning Bolt: 6.24oz (!!!!!!!!!)
Black Circle: 5.68oz
Red Circle: 5.87oz
Red Dot: 6.72oz (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

People have told me the Measle ball and the Red Circle ball weight about the same, which you confrm above. This is surprising to me because it feels like the Measles ball plays a lot lighter than the Red Circle.

Maybe I am wrong but the measles ball seems to have a clear layer on the outside that other cue balls don't. The material or the cure seems a little different. My measles ball rolls further than the red circle house balls. Not a bunch but enough that long two to four rail shape shots will fall short with the red circle after adjusting to the measle ball. The biggest reason my measle ball sits on my desk all the time.

The red triangle and blue dot are about the same and even heavier.

Hi Folks,

In one of my posts about bar box eight ball I mentioned the "Lightning" cue ball. Another AZ poster JdoubleR asked who made it in a PM. The moment I opened the e-mail, my mind went blank:embarrassed2:. I've tried for two days to remember the manufacturer. Pretty sure it is out of business. Anyone help out the super senior's memory?
