Reminds me of directions I got in the south, go up past where the Daniels place used to be , turn where the creek flooded in ought 2 and do down a piece , you can't miss it. lol

Good writing there.
This brings up memories from many similar stories I had traveling from the very north to the very south.

If you're looking for a game you'd probably find a cheap one (around 500p) on every island.
Even Banaue and Bagio was good for a local pool game, so where Busuanga, El Nido or the Polillo Island.

have a safe trip and keep writing...

Good to know. I'm off to Davao tonight for some R&R. Glad to be departing the crowded, noisy and dirty Manila. I'm only here to reconnect with my daughter and let her know her daddy loves her. To long in Manila and I start to get sick. I have bronchial problems for life!

Since Jay made this thread, I have been watching UTube Docs on the Philippines.

Just started watching one on Cebu. Absolutely beautiful.

I do believe that I will have to kick visiting Dom Poppa off of the Bucket List in Lieu of visiting PI.

Sorry Dom, maybe in my next life. Don't feel bad tho, I also took taking ESL Lessons from Coco off the B List also.

I just can't imagine what it would be like to wade into the water and surf cast all day and play pool all night.

I doubt that it would ever get old.

Only the best fishing and diving spots in the world right here. I see people from all over the planet on these shores enjoying these activities. Not for me though, I still like pool and poker. That's where you'll find me at night! And these are in abundance here as well. No one is a nit in pool over here, trying to lock you up. They just want to play, just like me. No game making required, just screw your cue together and get it on! I love that! And the poker games are VERY soft compared to the states. I know I could make a living here playing poker but just don't want to sit on my butt for hours several days a week. I will play a few times though for sure. The WPT is coming here in October so that should be good. I'll be long gone by then though. lol

I will probably get up that way later this month. I knew he was opening a new room. I'll check it out and tell him you say hi.

A little update - I've been vacationing in Davao for the last week with a wonderful girl. I always said never again to marriage but I don't want to lose this lady. A 'fiancee" visa is the only way to get a girl from the PI to the states, so that's what I will probably do. No time for pool until today. I have my cue now and I'm on the hunt for action.

Last night we paid a visit to a poker room (Davao Poker) near our hotel. It was perfect timing as a tournament was about to start. There were maybe 40 to 45 players and the buy-in was only 100p. But you could rebuy continuously for the first hour, so the purse built up. I knew it would be tough to do any good here, but I managed to get through the first hour with only one rebuy. I told my girlfriend that probably only the last four or five players would get in the money, so this would be a long haul. Three hours later we were down to one table and I found out it was Winner Take All! Okay, time to gamble and I did. Some well timed bluffs and a few good hands and I was in the final four. Here we made our first deal, saving 500p each. At three left we saved another 1,000p. When it got heads-up the other guy agreed to chop with me 50-50. There was only 11,400p total in the pot, so we each made a little money. It felt very satisfying to book a winner though, the only foreigner in the field. They kept asking me where I was from and I wouldn't tell them. They thought I was a pro from Las Vegas or Macao. I just said that I like to play poker. I made a lot of friends last night, had a lot of fun and made a little money to boot. What could be better than that! I told my girl that she was good luck for me, she sat behind me alll the way through for four hours. I told her she is coming to America! :D

Jay, Par'e. Fiancee Visa? Since you brought it up. Think about this one good par'e. I got Filipino all through my family. My Aunties are all Visayan and Ilocos but they were born in Hawaii. You know when you marry a Filipina you dont marry one girl. You marry the whole family. Im not trying to put a damper on it, I just want to be sure you know what choice is the best for you. Im not judgeing but just a friend who has the experience.

Oscar Wilde said "Marriage is the triumph of imagination over experience."

I've been in the "never again" category, and like so many others I gave in and took another chance. Just like your first round rebuy, I hope this new chance pays off!

Congrats on the implied engagement, and in any case thanks for the stories.

Forget jumping the broom! They will be jumping over the Balabushka! pool ball table markers and simonios cloth on the reception tables. A whole billiard theme. A piece of kamui chalk as the give away! LOL

We love you Jay so glad she makes you happy! Enjoy!

Jay,

As always your island travel reports are the best!

Seems the obvious thing to contact the travel channel or one of the networks and pitch a series, Jay around the world playing pool, er billiards, sounds better.

I agree.... screw the travelin' & drinking, or travelin' & eating shows.... How about a show with you hittin' pool rooms all around the world. You could call it "Jay Walking" LOL!

I was there back in the early 60's. Manilla was pretty rough then, can't imagine what it must be like now. Being in the Navy, spent most of my time in Subic Bay. Loved the Philippines, I can see why people retire there.

Hi Jay,

It's Dave here from Angeles. Great to hear you are having a good time again. Eddies Place in Sabang is a good little haunt for pool, I spent many an hour there.

How long are you in the PI for? There is a big Asian Nations Ex Pat tournament from 4-6 September at Resorts World in Manila. 7 Asian countries are represented by 15 man teams including PI, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia etc.

Many of the ex pats you know over here are playing, if you can make it pls let me know asap, I can probably still get you into one of our teams. I am sure it is exactly up your street and the PI has a very strong chance of winning.

Great stories, Jay. Reminds me of reading The Color of Money. You should hunt down Efren and complete the effect.

Your comments about your youth reminds me of something a professor of mine once said: "Jeff, I can't complain, but the happiest time in my life was when I could fit everything I owned in the back of my 1970 Nova."
