Manny Pacqiao Invites ALL Pro Pool Players to His Event in February - SWEET!!!

This event is scheduled for Feb 15-25.
Final sign-ups are Jan 15th.

(This is from a post I saw.)

The Jay Swanson Memorial is Feb 7-8 in Los Angeles.
The Chuck Markulis Memorial is Feb 14-15 in Sacramento
The US Bar Table is Feb 16-22 in Reno.

I would expect several of the TOP players to be absent this year. This is unfortunate for all the players and the events. Our dates have been set for months. I wish there was a little courtesy extended to the players.

There are so few quality events and it is a shame to have them overlap! But this is an opportunity for many of the 'better' players to get a good payday!!!

Funny how this keeps happening, isn't it?

Sad, really...

Where will Shane Van Boening be playing that week?

That's a good question. One of the reasons I signed up for Reno was the shot at playing him. Which, admittedly, amounts to $150 front row seat to watch him break and run on me repeatedly. I kind of chalked it up to my contribution to professional pool.

Damn! Now I'm going to have to get run out on by nobodies.

At the end of the day pros will still only average making about $10 an hour.

It's actually better for you to not have the top Pros there. Even then, only 5 players will make a noticeable profit after expenses.

This is an issue for the professional players, if 10 go only 5 will be compensated. At the end of the day pros will still only average making about $10 an hour.

According to Pacman, he is hosting the WPA World 10 Ball Championships. What a sport.

http://manilastandardtoday.com/2014/12/28/pacquiao-to-host-wpa-10-ball-event-in-2015/

"“That’s precisely the reason why I consented in hosting the 2015 world championship, to relive the Filipino cue artists glory days in the sport, which, incidentally, our countrymen, led by Bata himself, had popularized the world over,” said Pacquiao, who turned 36 last December 17 and in whose honor the MP International tournament was held."

So is it THE WPA Championship, or just a WPA ranking event?

If the event in this thread is the same as the one in this article then I'd say the USBTC is in trouble.

http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/577114/20141225/manny-pacquiao-world-10-ball-championship-mp.htm#.VLB0ESd4otM

"The World 10-ball Championship is slated to take place on Feb. 18-22 with open qualifiers on Feb 14-17. The World Championship will be offering a total prize purse of 200,000 US Dollars with 40,000 US Dollars going to the eventual World Champion. "

I think Shane got something like $12k for winning 10, 9 and the overall last year in Reno. I am not sure how pros pick events but I would think it would be tough for him or any player to ignore a $28k pay gap.

"it's only bragging if it's not true," and so it is.

This is what our biggest advantage is, one of my best friends is a basketball agent. He's bought Mark Cuban in my place, as well as a plethora of professional athletes. Many of them put pro pool players on the same level as themselves. It's really not about money to us, it's about recognizing each other's talents and complimenting each other on them - we have a saying "it's only bragging if it's not true," and so it is.

The WPA site lists it as the "MP Cup". Manny Pacquiao cup?

I doubt it takes much to be THE WPA Championship.

Ian Anderson: What can I do for you, Manny.
Manny: I'd like to host the WPA 10 ball championship in Feb.
Ian: Well, that's a pretty big deal and the US Bar Table Championships are then as well. We might need to get back to you on that.
Manny: I have cash.
Ian: Done.

Can anyone watch "TIC TAC TOE"?

Did anyone see last year's US Open Bar Table Event. They used the magic rack, allowed pattern racking (which should be a rules violation) and the players ran out virtually ever time. They made the "corner ball 100s of times in a row and in the finals didn't have but a couple people watching........I wonder why???

Let's just save time and money and have the US OPEN TIC TAC TOE Championships instead, it would be just as exciting. :rotflmao:

I was there as a spectator and you are right. As much as there may have been pattern racking in 9 ball on the streaming table there was even more going on off camera. I won't name anyone but there are a couple of pros who left the table almost identical break after break. Some of them didn't even bother pretending like they were reading the shot. They were starting their pattern while the balls were almost still moving. In one case, a player conceded a match after the 1 ball went in because he didn't feel like watching the other player run out.

However, I believe it was suggested to CSI that they rack the 9 on the spot similar to the US 9 Ball Open so if they do that it might dent that a little.

There didn't seem to be a lot of referees on hand for the matches I was watching so that may explain not catching the pattern racking. Besides, I don't think many players have the guts to call a pro out on pattern racking and bring a referee to the table.

In spite of all of that, I think it's a great tournament and lets a lot of nobodies like myself play in a big event. Sure, we don't have a chance but its kind of a destination event. And for the pros it's a bigger pot in exchange for having to mow down a few amateurs on their way to the finals.

News flash. Pool on a bar box is child's play for anyone with a reasonable amount of skill
Wouldn't matter what the rules are

Honestly CJ,, I expected better from you. Not anymore though.

What again have you done for pool lately besides talk about what you've done?

We know where you're talking about playing. So take that private jet you mentioned to the PI and get in the box already. You've been around here long enough, it's time we see you actually play at the level you are constantly talk about.

Sorry, but for someone who claims to have the game's best interest at heart I find it disingenuous to trash an event in that manner.

Luat beat him like drum in seattle, and Effy spotted him and beat him like a drum at the same place, so the jet will never leave the ground.

Jay Helfert is also having an invitational tournament in Carson, CA during February I believe with many of the top Filipino players featured (8 of them I think). Don't remember the exact dates for Jay's tournament

Could Pacquiao possibly become the long-term, deep-pockets savior of pro pool?

I suggested Pacquiao could save pool a long time ago. I think he could be persuaded to be even MORE involved if the RIGHT people approached him.

Who the RIGHT people are, I don't know. But if I knew anyone who crossed path with him, I'd make sure they put in a plug to him.

He says he played in over 140 tournaments in 2014. Though they probably were mostly small and local to Dallas / Fort Worth, I imagine they added quite a bit to that 2014 figure posted by AzB.
